While the food was fine, unfortunately the restaurant had a hygiene issue. After two rounds of dirty dishes given two us, instead of an apology we were made to feel we were in the wrong. Cutlery with food residue was told to be “vintage”. Would not recommend!
Food was great! There was good Indian spice on everything we tried. A lot of very unique dishes and very flavorful. The music on the patio can be loud if you are under one of the speakers, but other tables away from it are perfectly fine. The cocktails were also really good!
My only complaint was on service. We had a party of 6 and there was a 15 minute gap between the first dish and the last dish being delivered to the table, so several people were already finished with their meal before some ever got their main course.
Overall though, a great spot and I will definitely be going back again.
Great customer service, pretty good food, and great drinks & atmosphere! Definitely recommend!
Tasty food, excellent cocktails, and a friendly and efficient waitress, Natalie. She anticipated our every need and even surprised us with an amazing dessert for our anniversary. This place is a keeper!
Birthday for my daughter, but no acknowledgement at all by the waitress.
Nice outside courtyard for dining. Food was good, service was very good.
Food was very good except when we ordered the beef short ribs we got pork instead and the waitstaff didn't bother telling us they switched to pork. More lighting needed, could barely see what we were eating.
Very good food. Easy to share with others.
Great service! Nice outdoor patio!
Amazing cocktails, great food, friendly owners. Overall a great experience and will definitely be going back and recommending it to others
Paneer malai was good . But lentil dal was just cooked dal with no flavor .
Good portion size for all .
Flavor could do better overall
Good staff and ambiance
I know that restaurants are having a difficult time hiring experienced servers so I'm not going to criticize the very polite but very inexperienced server at our table. It's the food that caused me to rate this restaurant so poorly.
The amount of food was skinny. The flavors were mediocre. The prices were ridiculous for what we got. The main dishes come with dry, flavorless white rice that make up the majority of the food on the plate. We've been to many wonderful Indian restaurants in the South but this is certainly not one of them.
We did not order a mixed drink but we heard several tables around us praising the drinks they ordered so maybe Cotorie will evolve into a fantastic bar with awesome drinks that also serves Indian food.
The cocktails and food were outstanding. We enjoyed the outdoor seating.
It was really really good. Enough said but I need 50 characters
We had a great time. Wish there was more light but the food was great.
Finally, great southern Indian food in Charleston. Everything was delicious!!!!!
The food and drinks were delicious! I will absolutely be back.
- Parking was challenging
- Carlitos were great!!
- Trout was average
- did not order main dish so my review is very limited, sorry.
Mosquitoes need to be addressed. Food is not adequate for the amount charged. Rice was undercooked. Kale bhel is a miss. Drinks were awesome! Loved the chicken. Kababs were cold .
Inauthentic. This makes a mockery of Indian cuisine. There was nothing at all worthy of praise. The cuisine lacked any kind of spice and was extremely bland. Value for money was nonexistent. This was portrayed as a modern take on Indian cuisine…I think not. Avoid at all costs.
We stumbled on Coterie looking for something else, and are very glad we did. The covered patio is nice and large enough for good spacing; the servers are friendly, knowledgeable and informative, and the food is delicious; the best Indian I’ve had in a while. Everything we tried was good, and we especially liked the Coterie Okra, Appam, and Bombay shrimp and grits. We’ll be back often!
Great cocktails and awesome food!
The service team works well to bring super fresh and tasty tapas to your table! Love the patio and it’s dog friendly! A little secret place off King Street 😍 they gave us a chai drink at the end of our meal ~ Perfect dinner!
Charming people with delicious food and cocktails. Lovely inclusive ambiance
We were very surprised at the lack of Indian Restaurants in the Charleston area of SC. This is a little oasis in downtown Charleston. It most certainly is NOT your run of the mill Indian restaurant serving tikka masala, vindaloo, madras, etc. etc. what you’ll find is a very limited menu which for the most part is well prepared.
We had the tikka tikka dish and the banana leaf fish. Both were excellent but for me the tikka was the better of the two and I highly recommend it.
If you’re looking for highly spiced Indian food rather than subtly spiced then stay away. Don’t get me wrong, I love both types and I just want you to know that if you’re more inclined to hot curries, naan bread, etc. etc. then this place isn’t for you.
Our server was great and was a huge help when it came to helping pick out items from the menu. The cocktails were some of the tastiest cocktails I've ever had in my 3 years living in Charleston. The food is perfectly portioned and tastes amazing. For the 4 of us, each of us got an appetizer and a main and we were all perfectly full after. I highly recommend this place. It is also fairly priced!
We were visiting Charleston for the weekend and decided to give Coterie a try. Our family is a big fan of Indian food and this restaurant did not disappoint. The charming outdoor seating area was lovely, the cocktails were amazing and the food was delicious. We will definitely dine there again when we are in Charleston. We loved that all the plates were shareable and the tapas experience. We had the cauliflower, yellow lentils, eggplant entree and the Captain’s Tikka. All were so yummy. The lentils were so flavorful that we ordered a second portion.
Coterie offers a delicious, new take on a full set of Indian favorites. Dining feels more like enjoying tapas dishes than traditional Indian fare. We have now visited Coterie every time we've been in Charleston. Delicious food in a beautiful outdoor setting!
Coterie is serving dinner outside on their very casual patio. It was very busy with a big bar crowd and most of the tables were full. The food and drinks were delicious. The service was spotty, perhaps they don't have enough wait staff, like most restaurants post COVID. The restrooms were inside and only one was operating. There was a long line to use them, which was a problem for our group. The music was very loud. Indian sitar music would have been more appropriate.
very trendy place with a nice dark patio for sitting outside. the cocktails were amazing. the food was very good, I liked the Indian twist on southern foods or southern twist on Indian foods, whichever you prefer. Both the Shrimp and grits and Carolina bog were very tasty.
Delish! Lovely staff and service. Thank you :)
Charming low key atmosphere , friendly staff , food amazing
We enjoyed a delicious meal on a Friday evening. The food was all divine. The service was excellent and we both look forward to returning!
Innovative food concept, nice people - but, the user experience was subpar. No rudeness, just needed to be more attentive.
Great Indian food that Charleston has needed. The lentil/rice flour pancake was divine as were the gobi , saag and shrimp and grits. They are having staffing issues post covid, but no doubt will recover. Our server did an great job managing the entire outdoor area by himself. Give them time, but patronize them now so we can maintain ethnic diversity in Charleston’s restaurant scene. BTW the cocktails are fantastic!
Quiet and cozy Indian/American Restaurant off of King St. Most items slightly larger than Tapa size plates but great for sharing. Authentic Indian.
The Indian-Southern food fusion along with the cocktail menu was excellent! Unfortunately, it took nearly 15 minutes after we finished our appetizers that our entrées came out. That was pretty disappointing
Rude waitress was no help other to inform me they don’t serve traditional Indian Fare. Food was ok though.
The food was excellent, especially loved the okra and chicken bog dishes!
