About this restaurant

Costata, which was opened by Chef Michael White - a James Beard award winner - in the trendy SoHo neighborhood, is a specialty Italian steakhouse. Priding itself in excellence is a top priority for Costata, and they only hire the most impressive talents, from its chefs to its regional managers. Hospitality is as much a part of Costata as is its food, and it desires to provide an overall experience, not simply a mere dining pleasure. When dining at Costata, start with the Heirloom Tomato Salad with Stracciatella Cheese, bail and pesto. Next, order the Tomahawk Ribeye for two or the Pasta Fusilli, and end the meal with the delicately sweet Torta di Olo - pineapple coconut dessert cake.

Costata had the best steak I've ever eaten. Too bad it's now closed. The restaurant itself was sort of sterile. Not a fun place to go... but the 40oz bone-in ribeye was the only steak better than Luger's in NYC.

I was visiting NY for the weekend from Washington DC. I would return to this restaurant. It's location across from the subway is very convenient if you want to have dinner before an event. We ordered the ribeye and filet mignon. Both cuts of meat were excellent, seasoned and done perfectly. The wait staff was very attentive. The wine list is a little pricey. Even if you bring your own bottle, the corkage fee is $50.

Took a good client to Costata for dinner. Arrived on the early side for NYC (client preference), so it was fairly quiet and not too crowded for the first half of our meal. The scene definitely picked up by the time we departed, maybe 2.5 hours later. Excellent wine list, not grossly overpriced, and a wine steward who was happy to assist. Food was outstanding, including the steaks, but the starters and pasta dishes really stood out. Costata definitely earned a spot in the rotation when in SoHo.

the cocktails we ordered were great my old fashioned in particular was very good! We jumped straight to mains, the tortelli pasta with cacio e pepe sauce and short rib filling was soo tasty. The ribeye was cooked to perfection! we ordered sides, initially was going to order fries but our waiter persuaded us to try the crispy red bliss, which are small potatoes squashed (with skin on) with garlic, rosemary and chilli flake....they were amazing! i would visit again, this time though i'd try the tomahawk!

Food was impeccable. Staff were attentive. Clean seating area. I definately would come back for that Tomahawk steak. My only comment, is that they serve the cocktails a bit bigger :-)

Came with a Gilt voucher. Razor clam app was good. Octopus app was very good. The Costara steak was perfectly cooked to med rare, and was outstanding!! Good service as well. Recommended.

major changes...no second floor dining room; food still ok but not worth going to this loud and rather low-level dining experience
