What Insiders Are Saying
Cosme is an upscale Mexican restaurant in Flatiron that’s much more approachable than it appears to be.
Amazing experience. One of my favorite places to eat in NYC.
Great food and ambience, but the service and overall experience was way below par. We were rushed through three courses in an hour and the busser didn’t even stop to explain what we were actually eating - just threw the dishes down like we were in a diner! I complained to our server after the first course, it then happened again, so she personally served us the third course.
I asked for the manager and complained at the end about our experience. This was our last meal in NYC after living here for 6 years and was a special occasion that was ruined by being rushed and not feeling valued by having our dishes explained to us and a chance to ask any questions about it. You shouldn’t have to figure out what you’re eating in a restaurant of that standard! He said “sorry to hear that”. Not exactly the desired response so won’t be going back... very disappointed and upset.
Modern and crisp Mexican. But I have to say nothing was impressive and service was below average.
Foods are not bad, just ordinary. Felt every meal was overpriced (simple small Quesadilla with cheese costed 10 usd. Tasted just normal quesadilla) In my opinion, Best 50 list overvalued this place. There are thousands places better in NY.
Amazing, The waiter Carlos provided a Great Service!
IN GENERAL, IT WAS VERY GOOD!!!
The worst meal I’ve EVER had in NYC when you factor in service, portions and quality and extremely high prices. I’m a NewYorker and these prices were shocking. Waiter said portions were “family style “ to be shared. Bring your own surgical scalpel to be able to cut into these tiny portions. Tons of great restaurants in the city. Eat elsewhere!
Duck carnitas delicious but so expensive and had no choice as this was the only one of three good for sharing. Had two appetizers, crab and one other cannot remember not great but so expensive for what it is and portion size not good for sharing. Overall for those prices did not get a feel of fine dining especially with the service. Dessert was just ok.
Sever was knowledgeable about the menu and had great personality, friendly service
Oustanding food, beautiful space, excellent drinks. Of course we wish it was cheaper but for this level of food trip it seems justified.
Have been before and love it every time!
Food was ok..very overpriced. Was not made aware of ingredients in various items that caused food allergy reactions for my son.
Great food and amazing service!!!
The highlights stop at the friendly staff and nice ambience. The food is shallow and really lacks flavor. On top of that, the portions are laughably small. The food nowhere nears justifies the high price tag. The margaritas are actually terrible. We've tried it twice, and wanted to like this place, but we won't be returning. We'll stick to Casa Enrique.
Cosme was overpriced, with comically small portions. Our server told us that most dishes are intended to be shared, but also that most dishes were tapas-sized. He was not exaggerating - many of the dishes were just a couple bites of food, at a price point of $26 to $36 per small plate. The food was not particularly remarkable, and at these prices felt ridiculous. The Duck Carnitas, a large format dish that costs $98, was the best dish of the night, and was a good amount of food to split between several people, but it wasn't anything I would go back for, and still felt insanely priced at nearly $100. The famous Husk Meringue barely tasted like corn and was not exceptional in any way. Service was fine, although we wren't guided through the menu very effectively. Save yourself a lot of money, frustration, and sanity and go to another restaurant.
Lovely. Hands down the best Mexican fine dining experience in the City.
I wanted a meal that I knew I couldn’t get in Singapore where I live and this was excellent. The duck carnitas was expensive but so good. Probably knowing that we can’t drop by often gave us a good excuse to indulge. We had 3 “starters” - fluke, Arctic char and the cobia. I enjoyed all of these as well as the endives. I liked the lamb belly least - it bit too much acid/sour for me. My Husband inhaled the corn husk meringue- I believe it was really good. The service was also very good with the servers all very knowledgeable about the food.
The food and ambiance was great, I will say it was a bit stressful trying to have a conversation with the wait staff constantly checking if you were done your meals. I felt rushed to talk and to eat my food.
The food is really good, but a bit pricey at Cosme. Loved the duck carnitas (soft tacos), but $49 for the dish is a bit steep. The branzino was good, but not very large, a bit bland, and served with no sides ($31). The guacamole was delicious, but again, at $16, pricey. The guac chips were brownish, so guessing they were blackbean and were in short supply. The server recommended 5 dishes for 2 ppl, but these 3 worked just fine. The one thing I didn't like so much was the long and narrow table. Being further away from my guest made it hard to hear with the lively lunchtime sound level of the restaurant.
It was truly amazing. The food was beyond delicious.
We will definitely go back. I advise you to make a reservation, quicker and faster sitting.
Really nice place, I’ve been here before and it’s always a pleasure eat and hanging out here.
The food was excellent! Service was superior, cocktails were perfect. Great restaurant.
I think Michelin is wrong. In my opinion, Cosme is worth 2 stars. Cobia, duck and corn were awesome.
How can the duck be cooked to well-down level but still tasted extremely tender? "Wow", wasn't it? Cobia was seared a bit on the surface and almost raw inside. These cooking techniques were wonderful.
As to corn mousse, the flavor of corn was like a wave beating my tongue. It was really an excellent experience dining at Cosme.
Loved the food. We were there for lunch and the noise level was awful. We also felt a bit hurried as the courses arrived. The tables were close and arranged so the person across from you seemed far away.
The food is consistently great. I’ve dined there often.
However, the servers, all men, made our party feel rushed as though they wanted to turn the table quickly.
We left after two hours but would have preferred to linger longer.
The noise level is always bad.
Always excellent. The duck carnitas are pricey, but worth it!
Best mexican restaurant I have been to anywhere in the US. Each dish was a mind blowing experience and duck was to die for.
I did not love the food. There was so much hype about this place that I was disappointed.
Cozy location, amazing food, perfect service and an amazing wine/cocktail selection.
It’s my 3rd time at Cosme and I never get enough of it!
Overexpensive mexican food, horrible service. Skip
My mother got this trip as a gift to my father. Trueeeee love Hehe thanks for making it memorable
Exquisite cuisine, imaginative, sensual, erupting with flavor!
The food as Cosme is unrivaled. However, the service leaves something to be desired. I had tried to call the restaurant for two days before my reservation to ask them to do something special for my boyfriend's birthday. No one ever answered the phone. So I emailed and received a response before dinner, but at dinner it was obvious the server didn't get the message because our desserts arrived with no candle as I had requested. I excused myself from the table and chased down the waiter who was very sweet and accommodated us with another dessert, but that was extra for me and we were already pretty full. Sure it wasn't that big a deal, but when you're spending $19 for a margarita and $98 for duck carnitas, you expect better.
Small expensive portions of tasty but not outstanding food.
I have been to Cosme a number of times and the food is good, but it does not live up to the hype.
Good but overpriced and super noisy
The food was wonderful, must try the duck carnitas. The menu is on the expensive side but this was a great experience
some of the food was delicious.
But the waiter was not clear on ordering, and we ordered way more food than we could eat, and it was really expensive!!!! If I went back, I would only order from the top of the menu, and no entrees.
Great food, great ambience, superb duck carnitas and desserts. Yes, it is pricey, but worth every penny.
