As you can see this isn't my first review of Corso 98. I'm happy to say that even with a new owner and chef, Corso continues to be a favorite even though we don't come here 'once a week.' Again... there are just too many restaurants all around NNJ that we are on our 'bucket list'... and we ain't gettin' any younger.
We were early, (as usual) so seated promptly and had attentive service from our waiter.
We shared a stuffed artichoke appetizer... which was amazing. A bit pricey I suppose for a couple of artichoke hearts... Since we shared the artichoke app and an arugula salad... next time I'm getting my own.
My wife had their double-cut pork chop which was done perfectly and was juicy and delicious. "One of the best pork chops I've had!" to quote her.
I had Mama's Chitarra Bolognese with a few meatballs thrown on top. I have to say... pretty amazing.
We didn't have any dessert or coffee... instead heading home to have some left over ice cream and TJs hot fudge.
Lookin' forward to next time...
Greta menu, delicious meal and excellent service
Great new menu items. Best pork chop you can get!
The appetizers, main course and dessert were delicious. We did not know anything about the restaurant before making the reservation. What a great find!
Corso 98 continues to excel since their relaunch. Our server was warm and welcoming. The good was fantastic. I brought my in laws for my wife’s birthday and they fully enjoyed everything. It was their first time there and they said they wanted to come back.
As always the food was delicious!
Betty - thanks so much for your review! We are so happy you enjoyed dinner. Looking forward to having you back again.
Food delish! Remember to byob.
The artichoke app was amazing and the envy of the table. Skip the corn caramel dessert. It’s a miss but otherwise the food ambiance and service was excellent
Small great local restaurant. Food is very fresh and interesting. We eat here a lot and have never had a bad meal.
I have dined at this restaurant many times. I was skeptical with it being under new ownership but it didn't disappoint. The food and service were as good as with the previous owners.
New menu items and some familiar ones as well. All we had were delicious.
We will be back.
Always delicious, esp. The eggplant parmesan and the ice box cake!!
Loved it, the food is amazing and the outstanding service. Can’t wait to go back!
Food was served HOT as requested. The only problems encountered were with the menu which was somewhat very brief coupled with outages of the first two items that we had initially decided upon.
The scallops were amazing! The Chef stopped by our table as well. The hostess was so gracious and the waitstaff very attentive. The risotto was also really special. We will head back there soon.
Excellent food. New staff learning the ropes but very nice. Continues to be a favorite!
Corso 98 is just outside the main business area of Montclair. The chef came out to greet us; maybe because on a Tuesday night it wasn't too busy. She checked back with us towards the end of the meal to see if we enjoyed her suggestions, (a twist on watermelon feta salad, fried baby artichokes, and warm mozzarella were our appetizers; rack of lamb and risotta were the entrees) which we all did. The food was creative and delicious. We'd surely return.
Corso 98 blew our expectations out of the water. Chef Beverly Lacsina does an amazing job of nailing the classics while also keeping the menu/options fresh and exciting. The clams casino were among the best I’ve ever had; the meatballs were moist, flavorful and better than mom’s. The thoughtfulness of flavors pulled into the fresh mozzarella is beyond impressive. The short rib ragu was…perfect. The steak was cooked to our liking + well seasoned without being overdone (and the potatoes were crispy but soft in the center and seasoned to perfection) and the halibut dish was light/summery but loved the pesto/mango flavor combination. The thoughtfulness and love put into these meals is more than apparent. At this moment, I feel like I can’t eat again for days but we will absolutely be back again soon.
Have been to Corso 98 many times over many years and it is always good
My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful dinner at Corso 98 last night. The servers were kind and attentive, and it was a treat to talk to Chef Beverly about the menu. We especially loved the watermelon salad. Thanks for the great dinner!
Attentive service and flavorful food. For appetizers we had the watermelon salad and warm fresh mozzarella. They were both delicious with components of different textures and flavors. Very unique. For our entrees we had the short rib gnocchi and the sausage and broccoli rabe risotto. The gnocchi was freshly made and the short rib ragu was seasoned perfectly with a generous amount of beef. The risotto had great texture and was full of crumbled sausage and broccoli rabe. The pine nuts were a nice touch. For dessert we shared the ice box that had rich chocolate pudding topped with lots of whipped cream. Overall we were very happy and will return soon to try more menu items.
The food was fabulous! My brother-in-law said the pork chop was the best he ever had. My sister and I had the watermelon salad to start and halibut as the main course. It was all amazing!
Thank you for dining with us and for your review! We are so glad you enjoyed your dinner. We appreciate all feedback from our guests. Can't wait to have you back again soon.
We tried a variety of appetizers and they were all great. Especially, the whipped ricotta, watermelon insalata, and artichoke hearts. My wife really enjoyed the scallops (some of the best she commented) and the rice pudding is wonderfully cool creamy treat. Also, ask for the burned sugar cake in the sister bakery next door. I’m going back for more.
Thank you for joining us for dinner. We are so happy to hear the highlights of your experience. You certainly chose some of our favorite menu options right now. The burnt sugar cake is one of our best sellers in our bakery and we are always happy to serve it to our guests. Can't wait to have you back in again!
Food was delicious. Service was not great, but our server was trying hard and was lovely. Management need to focus on their staff.
Hi thank you for your feedback. We have been training our new service staff so we apologize for any lapse in service. With the shortages in staffing we are doing our best to constantly train all of our employees to provide the friendly and attentive service. We are so happy that you enjoyed the food, thank you for dining with us.
Corso 98 has a creative, although somewhat limited menu. We had the Arugula salad, beet salad and watermelon salad. Portions were adequate and everyone enjoyed theirs. My rack of lamb was very tasty, but four chops left me a bit hungry. The swordfish and ravioli dishes were larger and also enjoyed.
The ice box cake and apple pie were delicious.
Service was attentive genuine.
Definitely will return.
Hello and thank you for joining us for dinner. We are happy that you overall enjoyed your experience. We appreciate all feedback and look forward to having you back again.
I am recommending Corso 98 to everyone I know! The food is incredible and the staff are friendly and attentive. My friends and I ordered a variety of appetizers and entrees...we loved everything we tried especially the homemade pastas and the perfectly cooked pork chop. We will most definitely be returning for dinner soon.
Being sympathetic to building back post COVID, the experience in all aspects was sadly very disappointing. Food was overcooked, long time coming to the table between courses. Service was very erratic. And the noise level of the room was so high that it was uncomfortable and unpleasant.
Very disappointing. Waited 2 1/2 hours for our food, and not one waitress came up to our table to ask for water what so ever. When we did ask the waitress for water, we then over heard her talking about our table to other tables. That is not only unprofessional, but beyond rude. Busy or not, we shouldn’t be waiting 2 1/2 hrs for water or being talked about while trying to enjoy the restaurant. Lastly, the new part time owner was there, as her daughter is a waitress at the restaurant, and was openly pointing at our table and talking about the table for us to hear, she even was cursing calling us terrible names. I will never be coming back to this restaurant and will be telling anyone I know about how terrible this experience was. If you are a owner, you should know that the customer is always correct. As a waitress myself I was appalled. Overall disgusted by the way this restaurant operated and again will be letting everyone I know about the way this owner acted.
Mrs. H,Thanks for coming in for dinner on our busiest Tuesday night since reopening. We're sorry that you didnt have a great time. With shortages on staffing our industry has been facing we're trying our best to make everyone happy. This review has a lot of false information as the only owners are Elio & Lisamarie, and Beverly, our Chef who came to speak to you and apologized relentlessly, sent you home with desserts from our bakery and took items off your bill.
delicious home made pasta- lovely staff and chef
exceptional Italian meal
nice space—great for conversation
Thrilled that Corso 98 reopened. The charming staff, the delicious food. Everything about dining there is a pleasure.
Hi Anna, thank you for your great review. We are so appreciative of returning customers like you since we reopened. Looking forward to serving you again soon.
I never would have found this spot except I was seeking a midway restaurant between Westchester NY and southern NJ. Well, it proved to be fantastic. We sat inside where it was quiet. Considering the quality of the food, it should have been packed every night.
We shared an arugula salad which was very fresh and the fresh mozzarella, also very good. My partner had the pesto pasta which he enjoyed and I had the scallops which were fantastic. Our other guests loved the bolognese pasta and the shrimp risotto. The service was spot on and we will definitely put it on our dining list as a destination restaurant.
I cannot say enough nice things about my dinner here. My guests and I have never been somewhere that every single dish was a knockout. Amazing, cannot wait to go back
Food, service and atmosphere was all outstanding.
Nice to see that Corso 98 has re-opened. My wife is a vegan (I am not) and there are good vegan options on the menu. The food and service were excellent. We ate outside which was comfortable.
Bread was the best bread I have ever had. Salmon and pasta dishes were very good, but not outstanding. Meatballs and mozzarella were very good.
Impressed with the quality of the food! A bit disappointed that one of the evening specials on the menu was not available.
Food was delish!
One of my favorites! Excellent experience every time.
We have visited this restaurant in the past when it was run by a different chef and a group of people it does not live up to the standards of the prior owner and Chef. The food is not as good the menu options are lessened and things such as a half portion of pasta and gelato is no longer available. This is not a matter of G you used to what was there before this is a matter of graciousness and choices that make a restaurant outstanding rather than okay. The restaurant in the past was outstanding from every single level. I certainly would give it another try covid certainly has made it more difficult for restaurants to do their best and he's this is a new chef and perhaps is still finding her way. The room is lovely a little bit noisy this time staff was fine we will try it again.
