Cork Wine Bar & Market
the food was mediocre (brunch). the staff was great. i would return, but only for a glass of wine and small snacks.
I’ve wanted to try Cork Wine bar for a while so while my best friend was coming to town for dinner only I grabbed a reservation and we were excited to go.
I would never ever recommend this restaurant to anyone, not even my worst enemy.
We got to the restaurant for our 745 reservation and waited while the hostess took a call. We were then seated and one of the bussers brought water to the table. It was 12 minutes before any server came to our table. The server only came to our table because we flagged her. She wasn’t our server and was annoyed to even have had to stop. She didn’t offer any wine suggestions or pairings. We ordered a glass of wine each, charcuterie, risotto and French fries.
The wine was delivered by another server, who was quite rude. It was another 15 or so minutes before the charcuterie was delivered which was odd because it was 3 cheeses and prosciutto. When the charcuterie was delivered we asked what cheese was what and the food runner had no idea. Eventually the fries and risotto was delivered all before any server came to check on us.
All the while, some man, the manager I presume was taking photos and videos of the packed atmosphere. Assuming the images would be for their social media, the staff should be aware that while the manager is concerned with building up the social media, your patrons are waiting for any kind of service.
Eventually our fries and risotto were delivered. The fries were over seasoned and paired with in house ketchup made with so much cumin it was overwhelming.
After another prolonged amount of time being ignored by servers we managed to flag someone to ask for the check.
I could’ve put together a better cheese plate and grabbed a bottle of wine instead of wasting the time and effort for a restaurant that clearly doesn’t care about the service provided. To say this was an awful experience would be giving this restaurant a compliment.
Great overall experience. The staff is knowledgeable about selection and made great recommendations based on preferences. The food was absolutely AMAZING- the sunchokes are a must try!
Beautifully done space. They need to step it up on the food. I had the octopus starter, instead of it being room temp (as the waiter said it would be) it was cold and the octopus was legit slimy. The chef should try the octopus starter at RPM for comparison...there’s just so much more that could have been done w/that dish. Our waiter was great. The wine was good. We had the the lamb, duck and chicken. The chicken was a bit off and the sweet potato garnish could have been more delicious. My husband was pleased with the duck and the lamb but was very underwhelmed with the squash that came with the duck. The side of brussel sprouts were seasoned well but they were entirely too soft, as if they had been boiled.
I would go back for the ambiance and sit at the bar for drinks and some starters. In no rush for another full meal here unfortunately.
a very pleasant experience: knowledgeable, thoughtful, upbeat waiter; excellent (different!) food
Delicious dinner. Wonderful service and great ambiance. A true neighborhood gem. Put it on your list.
Great service. Prices are good. Portions are good. Waitress recommended all the dishes and they all turned out to be very good. We will definitely go back.
The food was amazing, everything was delicious, well-made, and brought out very quickly. The wait staff was friendly and professional, and the interior had a great rustic, but still modern vibe.
The food for restaurant week was just really bad. So disappointed
Great wine bar! Loved going here and will definitely be back!
Great food, nice ambiance. Fantastic wine list. We really enjoyed the entire evening, unfussy food with fresh local ingredients, everything perfectly cooked.
Great in all ways but one significant one - the noise was absolutely deafening in the upstairs dining room. And we say this as people who like modern restaurant settings. We will definitely return, but we’ll make it a point to sit downstairs when we do.
After going to Cork at least a couple of dozen times I have not once been disappointed. I work on 14th Street and recommend Cork to all of my customers who ask where a good and nice place to eat is. I myself don't drink but I take many of my friends there because of there extensive wine list. Everyone enjoys the entire experience.
Thank you Cork for being in my neighborhood.
My second time visiting and consistently great service, great food, great wine pairing, great service and great ambiance. Highly recommend this eatery.
The waiter barely came by at all and when he did he rushed away and couldn’t answer questions. Food came out very slow. The restaurant didn’t seem busy enough to justify the slow service and lack of attention. Most of the portions were very small.
Service and ambiance here was outstanding. Upstairs dining area was quiet for an early Friday evening dinner. Wine list was substantial and food portions were larger than I expected. Pricing was fair given the location.
Awesome experience! Great service, loved the cheese board and the mimosa flight we got. Enjoyed the main courses (steak and eggs and the brioche sandwich) a lot too. Would definitely come back again!
A fun night with delicious food, wine, great service.
We will return!
Liked the the old spot, absolutely love the new spot. So much improvement in ambiance, service, noise level and comfort! Add a few more new things to the menu and it will be perfect. Big fan of the new place!
The waitress on the second floor was ignoring us, she came at the end to let us know that the kitchen was closing and we had to either move downstairs or leave. We moved downstairs, she didn’t help us with the wine, and downstairs the bar attender again was acting like she was making us a favor by taking our order. It partially ruined my friend’s birthday, so we decided to go to a different place. I would never recommend this place if you have a special event. Service is terrible.
Great food, great service , Phenomenal wine!!!
We went for brunch recently and The renovation is beautiful upstairs. The menu is good, a bit misleading on portion size (for instance the duck confit Benedict was single egg, single English muffin) as many are very small. Perhaps list as small late? They were dreadfully understaffed but our server was awesome. Good quality was good. Drink menu was interesting. Would definitely go again.
I used to love this restaurant, but sadly the food and overall experience was very mediocre. There didn’t seem to be any finesse to the dishes we ordered and our server was not particularly friendly. An expensive meal that truly wasn’t worth it.
Bustling place with creative American fare (some dishes good, some a little odd). Good wine selection!
New space is much larger and noisy, lost some of its coziness from the old establishment.
Exceptional service and delicious food. Seemed expensive, but I guess not unusual for DC.
Had a fun time. Interesting food ideas, charming waiter, lively atmosphere.
What a beautiful restaurant and a very nicely curated menu.
Cork is the type of restaurant one wants to like. The owners live in the neighborhood, and at least one of them is generally on the premises on any given night. The dining room, recently located from the original location a block away, is attractive, less claustrophobic than its predecessor, and attracts a stylish crowd that is far more bougie than the establishment's social media feeds, full of progressive memes, might suggest.
The restaurant, by its nature, offers an extensive wine selection, and interesting "flights" have been a hallmark of dinner service since the establishment opened. Notwithstanding a churn in chefs, the food is of high quality and was better than ever during our most recent visit. This included some menu perennials -- both the avocado toast and the french fries continue to be worth ordering -- and seasonal dishes. A sunchoke preparation was the best I've had, and my beef cheeks were tender and flavorful.
So why did I leave with mixed feelings about our dining experience? Many D.C. restaurants serve small plates, and most have some facility in timing their arrival to the table. (This was confirmed when we visited a Jose Andres establishment the following night.) Cork, however, seems to make a habit of bringing out dishes at random and irregular intervals. This was a problem the first time we ate dinner at Cork in 2008 that persists -- my beef cheeks came about 15 minutes after every other dish, after everyone else in our party had essentially finished their savory course, and only after I mentioned we were still awaiting the dish to both our fairly inattentive server and to a manager. I enjoyed my food, but was not an entirely happy diner.
I have been to Cork many, many times. While I do not like the ambiance of the new space compared to the original space, the food was outstanding - better than other recent visits.
Great food, great value wines, abject service. All servers really poorly trained and disinterested. Management clearly lacking. Five decent wines on offer which is strong for US, and food good but serivce utterly shambolic.
Was surprised by the move to the new location. It's lost some ambiance and charm due to this, and also the noise level—with the dining room only 1/3 full—was a bit much. Food was quite good (mushroom risotto was very tasty, but a bit too salty; lamb chops superb; calamari salad delicious; asparagus and kale fine; wine fabulous). Service solid, but food timing was a bit off. Have always loved Cork, but didn't feel as special as it has in the past. Still worth the visit.
The waitress told us that the plates were for sharing, but like some other places in town, I would beg to differ. I think the restaurant should have emphasized that we would get small plates. A quarter of a cornish hen for $18 should in no way be described as chicken, for example.
Everything we tried was tasty, well prepared, and interesting. I know that rents in upper Logan are skyrocketing, but aside from the wine, which was very reasonably priced, I would have to reclassify this restaurant as a $$ place.
The service was wonderful and attentive, the space was beautiful, and the food was fantastic. I went with a friend for happy hour and loved it. Definitely coming back!
We enjoyed a bottle of Italian wine. We shared several meals with 2 others and we loved them all! The risotto is a must!! The pork belly was also very good! We also enjoyed the calamari, duck, and scallops. The plates are small and perfect for sharing. We enjoyed all of them! I would definitely recommend!
Great food, great new locale, service was exceptional,
Very lively and fun atmosphere. Excellent wine and very tasty food. I look forward to returning.
Love the new space and the food was delicious as always.
The new location is even better than the original. The food and the service are top notch. The even helped arrange getting flowers on the table fo my birthday. They went above and beyond making it a great night for us.
It’s always been one of my favorites, but having the bar on top of the market is awesome. Looking forward to our next visit.
This is an amazing place for a date. The portions are perfect size for eating and conversations. The staff is very knowledgeable about the wine they carry. Old world. Awesome. Have been there several times in the past 2 weeks. Definitely going back soon. Thanks!
