Cork Wine Bar & Market
Reservations accepting for guests dining with us! No need to reserve if you are just coming in for a glass of wine!
Overall pretty good, food was good, table service was good. It’s small plates...so I’m sure you’ve heard about the value of a restaurant that serves small plates. I’m not cheap...I pay for value, but when the check came it was a little shock, especially since we got the restaurant week special. They didn’t list the price of the special, and I’m taking a guess...but I think it would have been more economical to just order from the regular menu.
I definitely would recommend this place just know what you’re paying for before going in.
Just one last remark, I had a friend meet me there and he was told that he could not be seated until everyone was there, no problem, I’ve heard that policy. So he went to the bar on the ground floor and no one asked him if he wanted something, he was trying to get a glass of wine. He went upstairs and again he was not acknowledged, while the three bartenders (im assuming they were bartenders) ignored him. I finally got there and we were sat. He told me about his situation and that he could not be sat, I looked around and the restaurant wasn’t full - at all - it was around 7:05.
Cork is in a great location, easily accessible from the U St metro. The service is great and the staff very knowledgeable about the wine and food menus. Cork is a wine bar but also a gourmet restaurant with the added bonus of having a wonderful market where you can get delicious wines and foods to go.
Wine list shines.
Food is really nice.
The service was terrible, and unfortunately ruined the experience. Hoping it was just that waiter and we can give it another try.
Great team and excellent food and wine!
Taken back by how poor the service was. Really regret paying so much for a meal at a wine restaurant/store when it took 30 minutes to receive our wine. We were halfway done with dinner before we received our drinks. Wait staff and busboys would come to our table with new dishes and not take away the clearly finished plates. Very hard to get service. Once again, regret paying so much for a mediocre experience.
Extremely loud. Impossible to have a conversation.
I love the new space! This was my first time in the new location and it’s a huge upgrade! The wine list is still great and still a great place for a casual glass of wine.
Love the new chef! I’ve dined here before and always had a great experience. Last week my friend and I had dinner and ordered one of the specials- a dish with roasted squash, pork, and hazelnuts, and it was so good we immediately ordered another one! I can’t recall ever doing that anywhere before. We also appreciated meeting the chef, who came out to see who had ordered two of the specials in a row. It added to a warm and cozy evening and made me love the place even more. Excited to taste more!
The new space is great. Our server was very helpful and made great suggestions regarding the wines. When they did not have the bottle we chose they offered another bottle at the same price. Service was exceptional and the food was delicious. We eat here every time we are in DC.
The outside patio is lovely and much quieter than inside.
Great wine and food - always order the avocado toast. A must when I go to Cork.
Food was tasty and service was great. For a wine bar, we were surprised that the limited choices for flights. We wished that we could custom create additional flights.
It was the Sunday before Labor Day and we had booked dinner. The ambivalent host who could barely pull herself away from her phone informed us that the upstairs restaurant was closed due to lack of customers. Hmmm? We chose to sit in the back patio which is really just a large alleyway between the restaurant and the building next door. Service consisted of one waiter and was mediocre at best to begin with. The waiter wasn’t sure whether he had the wine we chose (no alternative offered), he had no “paper and pen” to take our order, had attitude when we asked for important implements such as silverware. On one occasion he actually yelled at a customer who asked where his food was. The food however was good with Burrata, Carrots, Rabbit Ragu all satisfying. Finally at the end of the meal a rather large rat was spotted by the bins towards the end of the alley. We drank up and departed, but again we had to search for the waiter for the check!! Is the lack of Customer a self fulfilling prophecy??
They were understaffed, could not get our orders right, the food could have been good but was tiny, way too salty and arrived cold.
Love the back garden at Cork. Asparagus salad was light and refreshing. The olives were delightful. The wine was perfect. It was exactly what we wanted before a night of dancing.
Server was visibly annoyed we were only having drinks.
Slow service, rude wait staff (as if we were inconveniencing him), multiple issues with the food (i.e., notified us 20 minutes after an order was made that a main ingredient was not available, the revised ordered did not include a listed ingredient (cheese) and the server questioned us if that was actually on the menu which we showed him). Don't plan on going back which is too bad.
Wide selection of wines, but expensive for the standard pour. I ordered a flight and was told it would equivalent to 1 and 1/2 glasses, but it was more like 3/4 of a glass.
Brunch menu was perfect! Food was great, Mimosa flight 💕!! Avocado toast, as always, my favorite!
We were disappointed in brunch. Our food was cold and not very tasty. We had great memories of Cork from years ago, especially ham and egg sandwich. Unfortunately, it did not live up to our memories. Maybe it was just brunch. The space is gorgeous and our waitress was very nice; the restaurant was understaffed though.
Used to love it, but never going back for dinner. I don't know what happened in the last year since I'd last eaten there, but Cork sucks now, which might explain why it was nearly empty on a Saturday night. Still the service was very slow for just a handful of tables. Our "chilled" red wine and white wine had clearly been sitting out too long before being served to us, as they were sweating and not cold enough (and took too long). The server was nice but struggling, made several mistakes and not the best attitude. Forgot the olives, left them on the bill, then asked if we still wanted them--after we were done. The manager came over and took the mushrooms we hadn't ordered off our table--after accusing us of ordering them--and brought them to another table--after we had tasted them (she didn't even ask and we tried to flag her down but were too late). Those were on the bill too. The bread sucks, could barely chew it. The rainbow carrots are not rainbow carrots, just orange carrots, and soaked in honey--almost inedible, an awful dish. The octopus salad was lovely! The avocado toast is very tasty and I enjoyed it, but needs a bit more pistachio. Then we went to le diplómate, where there were seemingly hundreds of people and still managed to have exquisite service and food.
Food and wine were great. Wine was affordable and fabulous. Food was overpriced for portion size.
The plates we chose were all equally delicious and the portions sizes were perfect to satisfy, but not overwhelm. We will absolutely be back!
Nice place. The food was just ok. I will go back, just not running.
Did not quite understand why: 1. On the reservation I wrote requesting a table by the window or corner and hostess said she did not have that detail. 2. The waiter came by evey 5/7 min asking if everything was fine. It was a bit too much as I was there to talk to my party and b ing interrupted so frequently turned out to be annoying. 3. Suddenly the waiter showed up with a water bottle from another table and emptied the bottle on my guest’s glass and left. We had out own bottle in the table, why he came to our table with somebody else leftover waterbottle and filled a glass already almost full just to emptly the bottle? Too much pressing presence from the waiter was not Appreciated. 4. No bread was brought on the table, but i guess we had to ask for that. Indeed we asked for bread and it arrived. 5. The octopus was way way was overcooked. A shame that a fish sacrificed its life to became a delicious dish, instead it was completely mismanaged by a careless cook. On a positive note: The female bartended really has a good eye: we ordered 2 glasses of wine and once they arrived one was much emptier than the other. I look at the 2 glasses and smiled: was not my intention to say something, but the bartender showed up with a fresh bottle and said: i still need to fix this glass and she topped up at the same exact meausre of the other. Kudos to a very good bartender with excellent attention to details.
The food was amazing, I always look forward to dining at Cork, plus the Brunch is incredible. The wait staff is super knowledgeable and was able to recommend cheeses that were so good we ended up buying some downstairs in the market.
Great service and helpful, knowledgeable staff. Patio is lovely!
I've been coming to Cork for years for their dinner but I never tried their brunch - it did not disappoint, their dishes were unique and very tasty. I'm excited to come back and try more. We had a server in training and she also did a great job!
Went back to an old 14th favorite for what I thought would be a nice dinner out but what a disappointment. Slow, poor service. Mediocre choices for wine by the glass. Laughably stingy cheese serving. Overpriced and forgettable small plates. So bummed to find what I thought was a sure thing turn out so poorly. Sooo many better options in dc - you can and should easily avoid this place.
Food and wine worth the price. Our server was fantastic but the hostess was very short and rude with us when we arrived, when we asked to not be seated under the AC, and she was the same way with every group she brought upstairs.
I go here for the wine. Hadn’t eaten in many years. Now I remember why. Food was just ok. Wine was delicious as usual!
Another small plate restaurant. Nothing to recommend on the menu outside of the avocado toast. The noise level was awful. 85 decibels. Really just a lousy experience.
Very good for wine, not so good for food (small plates, not great value)
My colleagues and I were very excited to try Cork. We made a reservation after seeing Tuesdays were "grilled cheese" night. Upon arrival, the hostess asked if we wanted to sit outside. The weather was awesome so we said yes. After sitting down/seeing the menu, we didn't see any grilled cheese listed so we asked one of the servers who informed us that "the grilled cheese is only available inside". This was confirmed by a second server (who was slightly friendlier about it than the first). My colleague joked with her about going inside, buying a grilled cheese and bringing it pack to the patio and the server said, "no, you can't do that". I know this sounds like a silly thing to focus on, but we were totally turned off by this. It was 5:00pm on a Tuesday. It wasn't busy at all. And just because we chose to sit out on the patio to enjoy the weather, we couldn't order grilled cheese. The food we did order overall was fine. Nothing super exciting. We did try to get some ketchup with the fries we ordered because none of use liked the dipping sauce and were informed they didn't have any.
Avocado toast was excellent, but Mushroom flatbread, risotto, brussel sprouts sub-par and bland. Did not have the wine on the wine list I wanted
good place for family reunion - very friendly and warm. good food and not too big of portions.
Excellent service. Enjoyable atmosphere. Will return to sample more of the deliciousness.
We thoroughly enjoy our evening at Cork. We went there for a fun date night and were not disappointed. We have a couple glasses of wine and several small plates. The waitress was knowledgeable and able to recommend wines - and they were very tasty. The food presentation was wonderful - and it was delicious. We ended our evening with some port wine and amazing cheese cake. A wonderful meal. We will surely return!!
