Cork and Fin Ratings and Reviews
My friends and I were quite impressed with the food, but not so much with the service. I wonder if they were short-staffed that night so it took the server forever to tend to us. Some other customers actually left as no one was tending them. I tried to get one of the server's attention by saying hi to him as he walked by—he looked at me briefly but left me without even acknowledging me. We almost walked out of the doors right then but our server came just in time. When we were done with the food, the server came to pick up the plates but spilled some sauce onto my friend's phone but wasn't even aware that she did that. It's really too bad as we enjoyed the food immensely and loved the décor but I am not sure if we want to go back. The servers just don't look happy working there.
We went for the oysters at happy hour. the waitor said he couldn't offer any to us, but there would be a dozen available on their platter which was available for $49. wtf ? Happy hour was clearly advertised on their website, and they had oysters in the house but couldn't/wouldn't explain why they werent available and offered no subsitution....other than the platter? The platter was marked down from $89. So stupidly we said OK, lets have the platter. We were hungry and already there. It sounded OK, and should have been OK.... but between us we had 4 off tasting oysters, as in manky. The lobster tasted old. Nothing seemed fresh. It appeared to be a plate of leftovers.
This is our second visit in 2 years since we don't live in Vancouver, however, Cork and Fin is on our must do list when we are in town. Francis the proprietor is amazing and his staff follows his lead! Excellent service, food and a terrific wine list. The ambiance is perfect, intimate, a great place for couples and small groups.
My wife and I arrived early last night for a pre-concert meal and shared the Kanto Lobster and the Roasted Salmon, while the salmon was extreamly good and something I would highly recommend, the Lobster was off the charts! We lived on the East Coast for a few years when we were younger and had many lobster dishes and cook-outs with friends, but this was the best lobster dish I have ever eaten. If you like lobster, tempura and spicy food, get this over and over again until they run out. Put some hand-cut fries on the side and get a local craft beer and enjoy a really great restaurant with an inviting vibe.
I booked this place for my friends 30th birthday since I had such a good experience the first time I went. I love the cozy ambiance, and the drinks were delicious. Food was tasty too but the portions were too small. Sincerely appreciated the complimentary birthday dessert. Unfortunately our server didnt have the best attitude - not rude and yes she did get the job done, however at a nice place like this in Gastown, I would have expected more engaging service and a response that did not feel as if our questions were bothersome or annoying because we needed more time to decide on what to order (we were all so happy catching up with eachother).
Came here for my sister's 24th birthday celebration and the entire family had a great time with the tapas menu that was suggested by the waitress. There comes several options depending on the size of the group but definitely worth the pairing since getting several mains with sides gives you a better overall taste of their menu. On certain days of the week they have specials as well and the evening we visited was half off their seafood platter which had the freshest oysters I've ever had.
The restaurant itself is quite small but cozy. Very chic and modern decor as well. Also note that they had a most amazing chocolate dessert that comes in a cute little jar ! Prices can be pricey adding it all up but worth it for a special occasion.
There is some genuine value here, and especially for gastown. The halibut was particularly excellent although the crab was delicious and perhaps unsurprisingly, the steak with chimichurra was the weak link. The staff were attentive, especially after accidentally dropping our dishes. They replaced everything quickly, although the dishes were brought out all at once when a chef table dinner should come in some sequence. Good all around and will go back.
Loved our visit at the Cork and Fin in Gastown. We were seated at a table by the front window away from a bigger table so we could actually hear ourselves talk. We were there on an early Sunday evening so it wasn't too busy. The best part was their 3 tier seafood tower reg: $89 was on for $49. Services was great, our waitress even offered to take our picture without us even asking. Would definitely come back again.
So happy that we came back to this restaurant. Their service and food is superb.
We came for their happy hour specials - great oysters ($17 for a dozen) and the appy specials. We loved the grilled squid and the veal cheeks entrée. Service is friendly and attentive. We will be back again.
The seafood was Oh SO fresh and the oysters were delicious. But there was no bread. We were still hungry after we went through the three-tiered seafood tower, so we ordered some fries! (The fries were excellent.)
Then the staff had noticed on our reservation that it was our anniversary and they brought us a dessert. That was very kind of them. We enjoyed it.
When we arrived they couldn't find our reservation, suggesting it was possibly at the restaurant next door. It wasn't as we had one there the next evening. They also were out or the special for the evening before we arrived. Which was the reason we wanted to dine there. To her suggestion we left and had a wonderful dinner and experience next door.
Purposely visited this restaurant on a sunday to try their seafood tower for $49. I was expecting three tiers but I guess because of the price they had to make it to two tiers only. understable. It was definitely enough for both of us. Seafood was fresh and delicious. Server explained what everything was. The tuna tataki I found a little too hard on the outer edges. Lobster was delish! Would come again to try other food on the menu.
The food was overall quite tasty. It is basic, nothing special. Good veggies , steak ok and overcooked salmon. Wine too pricey for the food choices and ambience. This family style dining seems to be "the thing" in vancouver...overrated. This may have been better had our server worn asmile. She was not interested in our experience nor was she interested in the food she was serving. The best part was as she delivered wine tasters, she could not remember what she had brought us. In her words...once i bring it over my work is done. I dine out several times per week, i live in Montreal and visit Vancouver often...i keep hoping to find some gems in this town. Cork and Fin was not it. However their little cousin the Oyster Bar on Commercial was fabulous!
We arrived a little bit last-minute but got a table, and had high expectations, set by the space and the menu. The food-- half-dozen oysters to start, with prawn ceviche and the mussels as mains, did not disappoint. However, the mussels were brought first, went cold while we waited for the ceviche or the oysters. The oysters then arrived and we asked for the mussels to be brought back as a main. When they were, the bread was missing. We were served by several different people, none of whom were rude, but didn't seem entirely on the ball, either. It was a shame because the food itself, when we had it, was very good.
This was an unexpectedly quiet Saturday evening meal. We decided to order Al a Carte versus the Family style option. Preferred this as it allowed us to choose our own meal. The meal is served tapas style with the dishes coming to the table as ready - be open to sharing your choices!
All of the food was presented well and the taste combinations were perfect. No complaints about pricing or quality. Server was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Our only downer of the eventing was a large (12 person) gathering on the opposite side of the restaurant. They tended to dominate the noise level. This wasn't a deal breaker as it is an open and vibrant place anyway. Would definitely recommend this place.
It was my husband's birthday and we were seated in a nice corner table by the window. Waiting for us at the table was two glasses of prossecco which was a nice touch. We selected the chef's tasting menu and the highlights were the prawn ceviche, artic char and veal cheeks. Unfortunately the seafood risotto was very chalky tasting and when asked we told our server this. Again the service was amazing where they comp our dessert and after dinner drink. We will definitely come back again for the service and food.
Came by with my co-workers who all LOVE good food. Personally interesting flavours mixed with a combination of textures will always win me over! The one dish that really hit the mark for me was the beef tar tar with seaweed chips. This is a dish I will day dream about until I can come back and have it again!
I'll definitely be back. Thanks for the great experience!
Their concept of smaller plates to be shared gave four of us a good opportunity to try many new and delicious foods. The service from Hanish was outstanding as was the welcome we received upon entering this small but beautiful restaurant. This is a special place for dinner and all of us left with a warm and wonderful feeling about all the exciting dishes.
The food and atmosphere were great. It was Valentine's Day but the restaurant didn't seem too hectic. The dinner was a set meal - so the only complaint I would have is that I might have liked to know more about their real menu or to choose my own meal. The dessert was a major hit.
The ambiance is lovely and quaint. Had a hint of southern charm. Loved the brick walls and the white railed staircase.
The food unfortunately did not impress for the prices. The seafood risotto was tasteless glue. The mussels were good and my boyfriend enjoyed the veal.
Overall I did not leave feeling wowed
I had heard good things about Cork & Fin, but was worried it had been overrated and would be pretentious - quite the opposite! The staff was friendly and welcoming, and had great recommendations. The food was delicious, and fairly priced! A definite new favourite of mine in Gastown!
