Well prepared, well presented New Am/evolved Continental menu. Service polished, beautiful room. Accessible wine list. Recommended to friends, lIve in NY but would go back next time in town. Upstairs bar $30 3-course looks like a find. NB: I did not see bill so my value rating (which survey required me to answer) is based on a guess and the bar prix-fix option.

The corduroy is a nice formal restaurant fit for special occasions. The menu is very well crafted and served impeccably.
The place itself is sober, but may seem too simple in terms of interior design/decoration for a special occasion.

In the past our experience with Corduroy has been incredible, so we decided to book our Valentines dinner based on our past experience, we were very disappointed. It started with the waiter not offering us a drink prior to ordering our courses, he couldn't remember the chef's specials and not even explaining how the evenings special menu was going to work. We had to stop him after he dropped off the menus to ask if we could order a drink. The thing that I noticed and was the most disappointed about, was when he was taking our course order, he would look away while we were speaking to him, like we were wasting his time. The first course arrived by the runner, no one presented the dish with any description, about 5 mins into eating our first course I noticed the runner approaching the table with our second course, realizing we had just got it and were still eating our first course, he returned the plates to the kitchen. Once again I had to stop the waiter to ask if we could order a bottle of wine with our second course. When the runner served our second course another waiter thankfully came over to our table to present the dishes. During the second course, every time the waiter poured the wine he spilled it on the table. We ordered coffee with our dessert and it was cold. Overall we were very disappointed with the service, the food was very good, but the services was horrible! Unfortunately we will probably never return or recommend Corduroy.

It was Valentine Day and a lovely evening. The food was fixed price with many choices. We enjoyed every bite!! Our server was very knowledgeable and generous- when the meal was slow to arrive, he comped us 2 glasses of wine.

Enjoy!!

The four of were all exceptionally pleased with the food and presentation. Easy to find wines in our price range. Service was also exceptional. This was our first visit and we plan to return. An added bonus is that it was easy to hold a conversation!!!

Have eaten here once before and enjoyed it- did the tasting menu with wine pairings- the service was sub par- nothing friendly or informative- the descriptions of the wines was memorized and said in hushed rushed tones...
None of the courses were memorable- tuna was oily; scallops were dry;

very disappointing...

VERY impressed. Quiet scene, quality food, excellent and properly attentive service. While the table next to us cycled twice, the waitstaff saw my guest and I were reconnecting and engaged, and allowed us the proper time-space to converse, approaching the table when required, and never intrusively. Bravo. The wagyu beef special was perfectly prepared, but the sides could have used some creativity. Short cocktail menu, but sufficient. A definite return-to spot.

We’ve been to Corduroy many times, and it was just as outstanding as usual on our most recent visit. We love the pace of service. You’re never rushed. The atmosphere is cozy, too, with warm colors and dim lighting. Very romantic. The service is top-notch, too. And the food is excellent. The smoked-salmon terrine appetizer was delicious, and the pork loin and Wagyu entrees were wonderful. We can’t wait to go back again soon.

We had the chef's tasting menu and the food was really good. The service was a little over attentive and chatty for my taste but I guess that's better than lack of service. I will say that the mechanics of the service seemed to be off. There were two occasions when a server showed up at our table with a course that we had just finished. I believe they may have been understaffed.

We have been to this restaurant many times in the past and always had an exceptional experience. Sadly, this was not one of them. From the time we arrived and were told that the valet had not shown up for work (we ended up parking 4 blocks away). While the service was attentive there were many mix ups with our orders. Soups were poured over the incorrect base and delivered to the wrong diner. When pointed out to the server there was no apology or attempt to correct. Dinner was inconsistent. The lamb and the chicken were delicious as always however the Waygu beef was not tender and once again dinners were served to the incorrect members of our party. Dessert was also confusing as we received something we did not order and when our correct order arrived it appeared to have been microwaved to warm it up.
I realize that resturants have "off nights" but the continued missteps throughout the evening did not give us the desire to return again soon which is very unfortunate as this was one of our favorite dining experiences in DC.

Excellent dinner with my son at Corduroy on Saturday night. The food presentation was elegant. My dinner was excellent, the tuna tartare was delicious as were the scallops with antebellum grits. My son thought the squash soup was very good but nothing outstanding, however the lamb loin was sublime. The food is unique, even traditional dishes are creatively reinvented. This was my third visit to Corduroy and I have only had wonderful food but what really knocks this restaurant out of the ballpark is the remarkable staff, everyone is so nice and create a very welcoming environment.

We heard many great things about this spot and went for a special birthday dinner. The service and food were outstanding. Our waiter described each offering, making our decisions easy, though hard because everything sounded amazing (and it was). The lobster and smoked salmon starters were spectacular. All our main course choices were carefully done, prime beef and Pennsylvania chicken with a perfectly hand whipped hollandaise sauce. This is a special place.

Our meal was expensive but undistinguished -- in short, not a good value. I think we were paying for pretense, which was exemplified by the wait staff's tight little suits. On the plus side, the dining room was nicely lighted and quiet enough to carry on a conversation.

What a find in DC...excellent food and you can hear yourself and guests! The restaurant was busy but the intimate layout and sound-sensitive decor allows for comfortable conversation. Food is rich and well portioned. Party of five ordered an array of appetizers through desserts, and all were excellent. Service was very friendly but could afford to be a little more attentive, although preferable to the sometimes pretentious service that comes with this quality of a restaurant. Highly recommend for every occasion unless you need distractions to keep the date interesting. We will be back!

The restaurant was very quiet when we arrived for a 7pm reservation. Our server gave us attention right away with bottled water and wine. Then we waited . . . at least 45 minutes until the first course arrived. Meanwhile, servers whizzed by with the meals of other patrons who had arrived long after we did. After the first course was cleared, we waited another 45+ minutes. The server never came over to assure us about our meals. Only when we asked did he say they would be out soon.

I hasten to add that the food was delicious. But something was very wrong with our table service and we should have received an explanation if not an apology.

Coduroy's tasting menu, at $70, is one of the best around. Squash soup, creative crap cake, seared tuna done rare and the most tender pork tenderloin followed by excellent desserts all combined with great serbice. Wine pairing at $55 also worth the price. Coduroy's never fails to please.

My wife and I met our daughter who was in DC for business. We drove in from the Eastern Shore in Maryland and were not disappointed. Our server was exceptional and it turned out his father and my daughter attended the same university. The food was exceptional with a fusion of Japanese and French for the dishes that we experienced. The fish, short ribs and duck were all done well. The cauliflower soup and Japanese salad were awesome. Will definitely return and would like to experience the fantastic wine menu in more depth. One of the best I've seen.

This used to be one of our favorite restaurants, but after dining there last Friday with friends, we will not be back. Where to start? Perhaps with my husband's $16 scotch, which may have had as much as a tablespoon full of liquid buried among a dozen ice cubes -- but it may have been less than a tablespoon. Or with the kir I ordered; I specified (and had to repeat this twice to the waiter, who seems not to have known what a kir is) that I wanted it "light on the cassis." What I received was deep purple, and my guess is that it was 2/3 cassis and only 1/3 white wine. The service was generally awkward, and our waiter literally hovered over us, watching us, waiting for us to order while we chatted with our friends. He had no sense of when to approach our table and when to stay away. Then there was the food. We had raved about Corduroy to our friends, who were from out of town, on the basis of past experience. The food this week, however, was ordinary. Three of us had a salad of tomatoes with burrata -- good but nothing special -- and I had a squash soup that was quite good. The entrees, however, were humdrum. One of us had roast chicken -- again, not bad but nothing out of the ordinary -- and three of us had sea scallops with grits. Boring; not even any herbs sprinkled on top to mask the bland flavor. And the menu in general contained nothing that seemed inventive or special.
This is a beautiful restaurant. It's a shame that the quality of both the service and the food is not what it used to be.

They had my flourless chocolate cake so all was good. Had a new waiter who was attentive, engaging and fun. Friends' first time and they loved Corduroy. Waiter caught on we were celebrating bdays and on his own had special dessert design 'Happy Birthday'. Fish was flavorful and cooked perfectly; I even ate the crispy, seasoned skin. Homemade ice cream selection is always a must-have. All-around dinner was excellent, which is why 5 yrs later Corduroy continues to be a top dining favorite of mine, I always recommend.
