Terrible service. We waited over an hour between our salad and entre. When we asked the waiter why it took so long, he said “they are not McDonalds.’ Food was ok but we just weren’t very hungry after waiting two hours from the tine we ordered our meal until we got our entre. They were not busy, so that wasn’t the problem. They did give us a discount because the service was so bad.
Fabulous service and food. Lovely atmosphere, leisurely and friendly. I definitely would recommend this restaurant to friends and family. Our waiter was particularly delightful and attentive.
Excellent meal and great service.
Great food in a classy, quietly elegant setting. A polished, confident tasting menu showcases the chef's skills without straying into self-indulgent strangeness. Highly recommended.
Corduroy is our favorite neighborhood restaurant, that we love to share with family and friends. The dining experience is elegant linen service. A quite, ambient atmosphere, where you can actually have a conversation. Impeccable service, consistent fine dining with an outstanding menu and always changing specials. It is always a wonderful experience. I would highly recommend to anyone,
Corduroy is an oft overlooked gem which has one of the District's best chef's. I don't live in the area, but I visit this Northeast spot whenever I'm in the city.
I originally chose to host an important business dinner at Corduroy based on Zaggat's positive reviews and its close proximity to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. I chose to host a smaller, and even more important dinner the following night and plan to host many future dinners based on the amazingly authentic, refined, personal and truly delightful total dinning experience my guests and I enjoyed. I stumbled onto a rare gem, and while I might be included to keep it a secret for my selfish use in the future - I'm more compelled to share the find with others who might appreciate this unique little restaurant with a big heart and warm vibe. And the food, you might ask? As creative and delicious as the staff was accommodating and appropriately engaging. Mike (Mikie, to me now) is an energetic delight, Maria at the welcome desk would be at home at the finest establishments, and Chef's devotion to both the menu breadth and total execution place him within the Chef-elite in my experience. Surprise and Delight are the two words I would choose to describe my consecutive evening dinning events with Corduroy, but I also note each evening was uniquely separate and rewarding...not simply repeats of the same great meals - (though I did have some of the Chocolate Bourbon ice cream on both occasions) Speaking of, the desserts options (I had some of all) would easily stand alone as a feature worth going for.
Good service and good food. Strongly recommended. Price is reasonable
Fabulous food, outstanding service and a subdued atmosphere made for a truly lovely and relaxing way to spend a special occasion. This was my second time there and we would definitely go again.
Michael was great!
Having dinner at Corduroy previously, we felt extremely lucky to get a last minute booking on a Friday night, but when we're seated we realized why. We we're put at a table right next to a large party that got louder and louder throughout the evening. And we had the same waiter assigned so we we're essentially left without service for multiple, long stretches.
Yes, there was plenty of acknowledgement of the noise and apologies for the delays, but after the fifth time or so you don't want an apology, you want a correction; they should have augmented or shifted wait staff, or thrown in a glass of dessert wine, or something.
The food is excellent, but for the price you expect a special night out, not an especially poor service night out.
Disappointed when the quality and creativity of the food deserved much better.
Wonderful new American cuisine, exquisite wine list, incredible service. Love the quiet restrained atmosphere and peaceful decor.
Wow. Where do I begin. Took my wife to DC for a quick weekend getaway and wanted to go somewhere special for our anniversary. I choose Corduroy for the great reviews and the fact that it had a chefs tasting on the menu. We were not disappointed. From the hostess to the servers to the manager to the chef to the AWESOME sommelier Mike...it was a beyond special night. Chefs tasting menu was wonderful, my favorite being the jersey scallops with grits. The kitchen even adorned our dessert plates with “happy anniversary” In chocolate! It was such a special night and the restaurant went far beyond my expectations. Will absolutely return. The manager even fulfilled our request to write the chefs menu down on paper for a keepsake.
The food was great. The service was good, however our server tried to fake his knowledge of wine and subsequently left us with a really poor pairing. What could have been a legendary meal was left wanting for a decent wine choice. My bad for thinking a nice suit meant knowledge. By the end of the evening it was clear he did not have a clue.
This is a wonderful restaurant; everything is excellent!
Chef does such a great job!!
While we were in DC for the March for our Lives we had dinner at Corduroy. We choose the chef tasting menu. The snapper soup, tuna tartare, and the scallops on grits were delicious. The meal was topped off with two different wonderful desserts. It was a relaxing meal with very attentive service. I would definitely return
Excellent food and service but not accessible for anyone with even a mild disability. Must go up steps to enter and then the bar and rest rooms are up another flight of stairs.
Excellent new American food. Large, well-balanced wine list. Stylish-quaint dining room and building. All good.
Polished service and well executed menu - well worth a visit
Professional prices, amateur service.
I love this restaurant. I usually go to the upstairs bar for their fixed price menu but this evening we splurged. We ordered the tasting menu and it was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time. I have a number of dietary restrictions and Chef Tom and the staff were great about dealing with them. From the baby Kale salad with freshly shaved Parmesan cheese to the smoked salmon tureen and his infamous sushi rice with lightly seared tuna, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. These were only a few of the dishes were were served. Each dish had its own balance with the flavors, textures and temperatures coming together perfectly on the palate. I was ready to lick my plate clean! The adult themed kit kat bars were also a huge hit. The wine recommendation was superb! I'm waiting for his cookbook to come out so I can feast on his sushi rice, one of my all time favorites. I can't wait to go back!
Had a blast. Food was great!
Excellent food service impeccable
We were quite disappointed in our meal. First courses were great, main courses ver ordinary. There were two mistakes on the bill. And the meal was rushed Friday m beginning to end.
Not my first time dining at Corduroy but it has been a while since I've visited. The food is still delicious and a visual delight, the staff are obvious professionals, however the pacing of the meal felt a sporadic this time. We enjoyed a few half-bottles of wine with the meal but would have preferred a defined pairing with the courses.
Great service and great food. I love getting the tasting menu and letting someone else decide what amazing thing I should eat next.
Once again, superb service greeted by a warm smile by Maria, service was very warm and professional unrushed service, beautiful contemporary ambiance, food always wonderful, and wine list is amazing, what a gem of a place, I recommend this restaurant to everyone, top notch in every way, thank you corduroy for an excellent experience,my wife Simone and family loved it,thank you corduroy .
Great food, great service, great restaraunt!
This Saturday night dinner with my wife was special in every respect. We particularly enjoyed the exceptional tuna entre, and a relaxed atmosphere which allowed us to hear one another (a too-unusual dining experience)
Went to Corduroy to celebrate our five year anniversary. We loved the location, the ambiance, the service, the atmosphere. The hostess took our jackets and seated us, and we immediately liked the restaurant.
Service was a bit slow to begin; not sure why, since there were only a few tables seated, but we weren't in a hurry and didn't mind. If anything it reminded us of eating in Europe a bit.
The drinks were good--nothing particularly amazing, but nothing disappointing, either. I think Del Campo has better cocktails, for instance, but I enjoyed my drinks well enough. I had a Blood Orange 75 (tasty) and a St. Croix Mule (good).
For our dinners we decided to try the Chef's Tasting Menu for $70 each. This turned out to be a little ambitious--you get quite a bit of food, particularly if you start off with the bread and better. (My recommendation would be to skip the bread, if you plan on doing the tasting menu.)
Working from my memory, our dinners consisted of
1) red snapper bisque
2) a tuna tartare with arugula
3) scallops and grits
4) Amish chicken
5) Wagyu beef with spinach and potatoes
6) flourless chocolate cake / apple tart, topped with ice cream
There were interesting flavors, and we really wanted to love our meals, but unfortunately many of the courses were too salty. The bisque was too salty, as was the tuna tartare, as was the scallops. The chicken and the beef were fine, though I wonder if it had to do with our palates shifting by that point. The wagyu beef was simply a nice steak--it was not marbeled beef as I had expected wagyu to be. Tender but not buttery, and as someone who used to live in Japan and had eaten plenty of wagyu, I felt like there was some kind of mislabeling going on.
I enjoyed the cake and the ice creams, wasn't as big a fan of the apple tart.
We had a good time, and we really enjoyed the service, the atmosphere, etc. It's just unfortunate that for the price we paid, we had difficulty enjoying the food.
Well prepared, well presented New Am/evolved Continental menu. Service polished, beautiful room. Accessible wine list. Recommended to friends, lIve in NY but would go back next time in town. Upstairs bar $30 3-course looks like a find. NB: I did not see bill so my value rating (which survey required me to answer) is based on a guess and the bar prix-fix option.
The corduroy is a nice formal restaurant fit for special occasions. The menu is very well crafted and served impeccably.
The place itself is sober, but may seem too simple in terms of interior design/decoration for a special occasion.
In the past our experience with Corduroy has been incredible, so we decided to book our Valentines dinner based on our past experience, we were very disappointed. It started with the waiter not offering us a drink prior to ordering our courses, he couldn't remember the chef's specials and not even explaining how the evenings special menu was going to work. We had to stop him after he dropped off the menus to ask if we could order a drink. The thing that I noticed and was the most disappointed about, was when he was taking our course order, he would look away while we were speaking to him, like we were wasting his time. The first course arrived by the runner, no one presented the dish with any description, about 5 mins into eating our first course I noticed the runner approaching the table with our second course, realizing we had just got it and were still eating our first course, he returned the plates to the kitchen. Once again I had to stop the waiter to ask if we could order a bottle of wine with our second course. When the runner served our second course another waiter thankfully came over to our table to present the dishes. During the second course, every time the waiter poured the wine he spilled it on the table. We ordered coffee with our dessert and it was cold. Overall we were very disappointed with the service, the food was very good, but the services was horrible! Unfortunately we will probably never return or recommend Corduroy.
It was Valentine Day and a lovely evening. The food was fixed price with many choices. We enjoyed every bite!! Our server was very knowledgeable and generous- when the meal was slow to arrive, he comped us 2 glasses of wine.
Great service and atmosphere - food very good but not so amazing or unusual to be worth the price (although would go back).
The four of were all exceptionally pleased with the food and presentation. Easy to find wines in our price range. Service was also exceptional. This was our first visit and we plan to return. An added bonus is that it was easy to hold a conversation!!!
Amazing for first dates
Have eaten here once before and enjoyed it- did the tasting menu with wine pairings- the service was sub par- nothing friendly or informative- the descriptions of the wines was memorized and said in hushed rushed tones...
None of the courses were memorable- tuna was oily; scallops were dry;
VERY impressed. Quiet scene, quality food, excellent and properly attentive service. While the table next to us cycled twice, the waitstaff saw my guest and I were reconnecting and engaged, and allowed us the proper time-space to converse, approaching the table when required, and never intrusively. Bravo. The wagyu beef special was perfectly prepared, but the sides could have used some creativity. Short cocktail menu, but sufficient. A definite return-to spot.
We’ve been to Corduroy many times, and it was just as outstanding as usual on our most recent visit. We love the pace of service. You’re never rushed. The atmosphere is cozy, too, with warm colors and dim lighting. Very romantic. The service is top-notch, too. And the food is excellent. The smoked-salmon terrine appetizer was delicious, and the pork loin and Wagyu entrees were wonderful. We can’t wait to go back again soon.
