I would recommend Corduroy to a friend with the caveat that the food was very good but not great.
Excellent experience overall.
A PERFECT restaurant experience. Beautiful
Room. Gracious and Helpful staff. Interesting menu and brilliantly prepared and delicious food.
Since we don’t live in Washington,D.C., we relied on Open Table for dinner reservations. I can’t express how delighted we were with this restaurant. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it. The food and service were some of the best I have ever had.
Our server was outstanding. Food was great. Pace was perfect. Very soothing which was just what we needed as we’d just suffered a sad loss.
This is a place that I return to on a regular basis. The food is excellent with menu options that make it hard to choose from since you are tempted to order everything on it. And that goes for all the courses. So, that is why I return - to have what I had to pass up. Be aware that this restaurant is in an historic building so it is not handicapped accessible with steep stairs at the street entrance, restrooms upstairs, overflow dining area and bar also upstairs, so if necessary, when making the compulsory reservation request to be seated on the floor where you will be comfortable. Otherwise, expect to have a meal of memory that will make you want to plan your next visit even before you finish the current one.
Main course took over an hour
Our party of six dined at Corduroy on an extremely slow night so there was no issue whatsoever with service. The charcoal grilled quail appetizer was delicious: perfectly grilled and beautifully presented. The beef cheeks served with white beans were melt-in-your mouth good and were a perfect entree for a cold winter evening. We all enjoyed two beautiful cheese plates and a couple of us ordered desserts and after-dinner drinks. All was very good. However, there was. . .
ONE MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT: When the maitre 'd presented the check to my companion, he failed to mention to her that there was ALREADY a 20% gratuity added to the total. Because the venue is appropriately lit for dinner (i.e. pretty low lighting), this line of the check went unnoticed by my dining partner and she added what would have been a VERY GENEROUS tip in addition to the 20% already on the bill. The effect was to provide a 47% gratuity. So, there's that.
First time at Corduroy and had an excellent experience. We had a large party to celebrate some birthdays and they accommodated us with flexible menu, food was amazing, service was excellent, staff were friendly, knowledgeable, and entertaining, desserts were delicious, atmosphere perfect. Just wished there were parking garages in the area, instead only street parking and though the gps led us exactly to the location, the restaurant sign was so small we passed it twice without realizing. But once we got there everything exceeded our expectations.
One of the best meals we have enjoyed! Each course was amazing and we all wanted to share the deliciousness with each other!
Birthday dinner. We were interested in something on website menu. The item was not on the evenings menu, but they were gracious enough to make it anyway, for both of us And the red wine went perfectly.
Shockingly good. Been passing the window for some time and decided to dine “at risk” for my wife’s birthday. Glad we did, everything was wonderful and we’ll be back soon!
Superb service from a knowledgeable server. His enthusiasm for the food and recommendations for wine pairing helped make the evening quite enjoyable. The food was excellent. Pricey but worth it.
An outstanding dinning experience. We were celebrating my wife's birthday and eating at Corduroy was a great choice (it was our first time there). We both had the Chef's Surprise Tasting menu and all courses were delicious. The service was equally outstanding. We will most certainly go back.
Tasty, creative dishes served by expert wait staff in quiet, intimate setting.
So both the duck and the chicken were a little over salted.
Excellent food and service. Terrific wine list. Quiet ambiance
Simply one of the best restaurants in DC. The tuna is the best we have ever had - anywhere. If you are looking for an elegant but unpretentious atmosphere with great food and service this is it. We have been customers for years and if you go, you will too.
Our waiter was knowledgeable and friendly. The food was excellent.
Great place! I've now been there three times. The food is innovative and very well done, the service has alway been first rate, thoughtful and timely, without being too present, and the sound level is such that conversation is easy. The rooms are beautiful nut not overdone. I've been there with a party of 4 twice and a party of 2 once. It is a great place for a quiet working dinner or a romantic dinner or just enjoying a very civilized dining experience. Highly recommended.
Delightfu!l Service wwas excellent, and chef accommodation for dietary issues were outstanding. Always love this quality place.
Had dinner for 2 Friday night before going to a concert. First time here; was very quiet with good service. Menu is limited to first and second courses, not a lot of options. Had the squash soup (delicious) and swordfish on lentils, very tasty. Husband had kale salad, pork roast and brussel sprouts. We shared the apple tart for dessert.
Consist in the quality and creativity of their food. Great wine selection and service. A real gem.
Once again thank you chef and staff, for a wonderful dinner.Everything was exceptional the food and wine was paired so nicely. Our December party was perfect at corduroy, happy holidays.
We were very pleased to go back to Corduroy after a few years. The food is as good as ever, though perhaps not as innovative as some places if that's what you want. The room is pleasant and quiet. The service was just right, helpful and interested but not obtrusive.
The portions were not huge, which is a good thing. We felt satisfied without being stuffed. Aces all around.
We visit Corduroy once every year or so, on probably each of our visits to Washington DC. IT is often the very highlight of our trip. The chef's tasting menu is delicious, the ambiance quiet and gentle and all the dishes are presented with a lovely grace.
I have eaten at Corduroy many times over the years. It is always great food and wonderful experience.
I would highly recommend Corduroy to anyone who wants excellent food and a special evening out.
Indelible thanksgiving meal. Tons of salt, no real flavor, poured full glass of wine without asking me to taste, waitress didn’t offer us options other tables were given. Awkward experience. They took the food off our bill. Wasn’t about to pay $200 for Food I barely ate. GM was nice. Won’t be back.
we went on thanksgiving day and were underwhelmed by the food prepared for prix fixe. While my husband and I enjoyed our turkey platter, our dining partner's choice of sea bass was quite meager. I shared my turkey dinner with him. We may have been between shifts because there was little coordination of staff. Difficult to learn who are server was. I was disappointed because I had heard such good things about Corduroy.
Outstanding service on Thanksgiving Day.
A lovely restaurant with excellent food, wine selection, and staff. We have gone there for Thanksgiving for the last three years and have never been disappointed.
Haven’t been there for a couple of years and don’t intend to go back. Although we had a reservation for 4, all the tables were set for 2 requiring the hostess to “reset” our table when we sat down. The service was kind but not attentive. The food was average. And there was a very noisy table near us which raised the noise level in this small space. I remember this restaurant being quiet and casually elegant but our experience was anything but.
Corduroy, is a cozy yet crisp small restaurant in a brownstone with great food, service and wine list. The night we dined antelope was a special and it was excellent. It’s a must try spot for higher-end DC dining.
Food and ambiance were great. The service was polite and enjoyable, however there was a significant delay in our food. We waited no less than 45 minutes before our first course was served (both had soup), and maybe 45-60 minutes after finishing our first course for the main course to come out. Food was great, but just took forever. Staff was polite and apologetic, but still unsure as to what caused the delay.
Awesome meal, great service and nice quiet ambiance. Although we didnt try the tasting menu, we would definitely do that next time!
My friend and I had a wonderful meal! We enjoyed the seasonal selections and the wine. The service was attentive but not intrusive, and we had a lovely time.
I went on a Saturday night. The food was good as was the server, but the kitchen was slooow. I was just starting to get annoyed and thinking of complaining when the first course finally appeared. Then I thought surely the main entree will arrive in a timely fashion since they had all that time to get on it. Nope. Just when I was about to ask what's going on it showed up. Portion sizes were also on the small side. That said the food was, indeed, good and our server did what she could. Hopefully the slowness was an anomaly. Another thing: I was seated in the center of the room where people were constatnly passing behind me. It was crowded when I arrived or I would have asked for a different table. Then with the slowness by the end I was looking around at all the empty tables I would have preferred to sit at. Not sure what a restaurant could do differently and make money, but it affected how I felt about the place.
Corduroy lives up to its stellar reputation. I was a member of a party of six, and everyone commented about how terrific all the dishes were. Three of us had the lamb loin with garlic creamed spinach, and both were astonishing. I had the lobster carpaccio, served with the lobster sliced so thin it was almost invisible on the plate. It was terrific. I highly recommend both dishes.
Impeccable service in a quiet atmosphere with delicious food made for a lovely evening. It hardly matters what you order, as it will be fresh, well prepared, and beautifully presented. Ans do save room for dessert!
I so appreciate a top quality dining experience that is neither fussy nor pretentious.
