I wouldn’t recommend Coquina. The food was average at best and poor value for money. The atmosphere felt a bit lifeless. I understand the minimalist decor is meant to let the view take centre stage, but it ended up feeling more like a sparse café than a beachside restaurant. The menu was both limited and unnecessarily complicated. It felt like they tried too hard to be clever with descriptions, which just made it difficult to know what you were actually ordering. The staff were friendly, but not particularly knowledgeable—especially when we asked about drinks. The food itself wasn’t memorable, aside from the fact that it was expensive and the portions were small. I get that sharing plates are trendy right now, but sometimes you just want a proper main course. The local area seems to be going through a small plates epidemic—everyone’s doing them. And unless the food is truly exceptional, it’s hard to justify paying over £20 for a plate of fish and rice with just a few chunks of fish. The space has great potential but the vision is poorly executed.

We shared some of the small plates which were excellent. The aubergine and labneh was particularly memorable. The service was very efficient and friendly. If I was being picky, I would say the hadron peppers needed salt, the wine is quite expensive and the noise level a bit loud and ‘echoey’, but overall very good and we will be back!

Superb tasting food and lovely service! Be warned, portion sizes on the small side but flavours pack a punch! And you get the fabulous Hastings fishing beach views, unbeatable. Will definitely return.

Delicious food in a unique setting and a really relaxed atmosphere. We had such a tasty meal overlooking the beach and everything we ate was a real treat. Staff were friendly and helpful and we really enjoyed our visit. We will be back for more!

The food at my recent lunch was truly fantastic. I loved every dish. We shared the labneh to start which is next level with the dukkah, roast shallots and chilli butter. I could eat it daily. I'm dreaming of it now! I had the cuttle fish tomato rice main which was also divine with a swirl of gorgeous aioli and my husband loved his sausage and lentil dish. We then had one of each the desserts which were perfect to finish but not heavy at all as we were pretty full by then - mine was lemon sorbet with grapefruit sort of icy granita and mint. Perfect end. Husband's was the strawberry croissant ice cream which he loved. Washed down with some lovely rose. A very special lunch and bonus was it was the perfect temperature and wind (ie none) for the terrace. A very perfect lunch. Truly exciting food that thrilled and left a lasting impression. Feel so lucky to have this gem locally. Thank you. Keep doing what you are doing.
