About Coppola's West
Owner-Chef Salvatore Coppola"s training began at an early age. As the son of the Naples born parents Salvatore spent many hours in the kitchen learning to cook and refining the same Northern Italian recipes in both of his restaurants. Before opening Coppola's on 79th Street, Salvatore trained in New York City Restaurants quickly becoming Executive Sous Chef. In 1986, using family recipes opened Trattoria Coppola, which soon after became a staple for dining on New York's Upper West Side and earned him a 5 Star Diamond Award in 1997. In 1998 Salvatore opened his doors of Coppola's East in the Gramercy Park area of Manhattan to provide a more elegant style of his Northern Italian 'Comfort Food'.On any given night you may run into a number of New York's Resident or visiting celebrities at both of Salvatore's locations. In addition to fantastic food and comfortable dining, Salvatore establishment offers professional and knowledgeable service, extensive wine list, private room and catering.

Coppola's West Ratings and Reviews
Upon arrival the restaurant was packed- a good sign for a Sunday night. The booths were filled with families finishing meals and the serve staff rushing to attentively care for each table. Booths abound so comfort is assured. The menu in itself presents varied options for all tastes. Added to it was an impressive specials list. My sole french was nothing less than superb. My dining companion had a fresh pasta with red sauce and beef ribs that she said was cooked to perfection and the best she'd had. The special salad and dessert rounded off what we both described as a perfect meal. Unlike the pricey midtown restaurants we ate at the two prior nights, the food and drink were exceptionally prepared AND reasonable.
Went there for a nice New Year's Eve dinner and celebration and they were rushing our appetizers and meals out to have us leave quickly. They wouldn't even serve drinks after 10pm and there was not prior warning with a 9:45 reservation. They clearly wanted us out quickly.
I’ve dined here while living on W79 & Columbus for fifteen years. After moving to JC, I took my wife here in 2010 as it was her last good meal prior to her going into labor with our first daughter. Now, seven years on and two daughters later, we took the family back to Coppola’s West. I felt as if it was a time warp. Nothing changed! Why mess with a winning formula? A delicious meal. I recommend it to anyone who desires a solid meal with little fanfare.
I made it very clear that I have OpenTable credit but they kept excusing something irrelevant such as waitress who took my order was new and OpenTable credit only can be used for dinner and manager is not here so come back later to use OpenTable credit. I insisted and finally used my OpenTable credit but these girls were not even close to professional at all. FYI, I checked I can use $50 OpenTable credit for lunch before I made a reservation. And these girls kept trying to take my main dish plate while I was in the middle of it. All of these are typical of clumsy service. Owner and manager, please check these 3 girls working on Dec 30th for 2PM lunch time.
One last note for the girl at the bar area, do I really look like delivery boy while I was waiting to be seated?
Is it some kind of racial discrimination?
Get yourself together.
Your first reaction should have been “How many?” “Do you have a reservation?”
Isn’t it the ABC for reception area?
Picked this place due to location to the theater and was not disappointed for dinner. First time visiting and will go back next time in New York. It was excellent and my entire family enjoyed everything that we ordered. Food, service and ambiance was perfect.
We expected having a difficult time finding a restaurant that was not already booked for the Wed. before Thanksgiving but were pleasantly surprised to being able to make the reservation for Cuppolas. The 4 of us each ordered something different and each of us were delighted by our choices. The service was very good. The noise level made it difficult for the people in our party to talk though. Each wear hearing aids. All in all I would certainly return and recommend it to others.
I was in food Heven eating the Homemade Black Linguine! My wife said my expression changed before the fork left my mouth! Honestly it was that good. We started with the calamari and it was good. My wife's veal was cooked to perfection and the chocolate cake for dessert was smooth and silky. We had a good time at the bar waiting for our table.
Did I mention how good my dinner was? We may find more reasons to travel to this part of NYC jist to eat at Coppola's West again.
We were kept waiting--standing in a narrow area--about 15 minutes despite having a reservation, a minor annoyance but made more annoying by the fact that the bar lacked adequate seating. Everything I ate (a little fried calamari; a Caprese salad; chicken martini; profiteroles) was absolutely fine, but I didn't wake up the next morning swooning over the meal I'd had. We ate here because we couldn't get into Carmine's, which remains my first choice for Italian dining in the area.
Chose this last minute and was happy to be accommodated. The staff greeted us warmly as though we were regulars .This set the tone for an enjoyable evening. The wait staff was very attentive and professional. The food was very tasty and familiar Italian options. I would recommend this place and go there again.
Very small and loud dining room.. Meal was ok, not great for the price and expectations. Did not meet expectations per previous reviews. Red sauce was good not great, a little salty and the crab lump was the fishiest tasting crab I have ever tasted, not good.
You can do better in Manhattan for Italian at their prices.
Great staff. Great cocktails. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious. Had appetizers and entrees and everything was hot and delicious. Loved it. Loved the music selection. Got there and it was not very crowded and we liked it that way. Within half an hour the place filled right up and it got very loud. Don't normally like dining with all that noise, but this is typical for NYC. LOVED everything we had. Waitstaff fabulous.
We came here for the first time after a talk at the NYHS nearby. What a great neighborhood red sauce Italian place. Very friendly, not a big place. The bar looked inviting. The menu is great. I need to come back and try the pizza. At my first meal at any Italian restaurant, the acid test is always chicken parm (or linguine vongole). The chicken parm here is wonderful with perfectly al dente spaghetti on the side. Oh, the salads are huge; my wife and I split a salad. Homemade profiteroles for dessert, and we rolled home.
