About Coppola's West
Owner-Chef Salvatore Coppola"s training began at an early age. As the son of the Naples born parents Salvatore spent many hours in the kitchen learning to cook and refining the same Northern Italian recipes in both of his restaurants. Before opening Coppola's on 79th Street, Salvatore trained in New York City Restaurants quickly becoming Executive Sous Chef. In 1986, using family recipes opened Trattoria Coppola, which soon after became a staple for dining on New York's Upper West Side and earned him a 5 Star Diamond Award in 1997. In 1998 Salvatore opened his doors of Coppola's East in the Gramercy Park area of Manhattan to provide a more elegant style of his Northern Italian 'Comfort Food'.On any given night you may run into a number of New York's Resident or visiting celebrities at both of Salvatore's locations. Coppola's West Ratings and Reviews
We expected having a difficult time finding a restaurant that was not already booked for the Wed. before Thanksgiving but were pleasantly surprised to being able to make the reservation for Cuppolas. The 4 of us each ordered something different and each of us were delighted by our choices. The service was very good. The noise level made it difficult for the people in our party to talk though. Each wear hearing aids. All in all I would certainly return and recommend it to others.
I was in food Heven eating the Homemade Black Linguine! My wife said my expression changed before the fork left my mouth! Honestly it was that good. We started with the calamari and it was good. My wife's veal was cooked to perfection and the chocolate cake for dessert was smooth and silky. We had a good time at the bar waiting for our table.
Did I mention how good my dinner was? We may find more reasons to travel to this part of NYC jist to eat at Coppola's West again.
We were kept waiting--standing in a narrow area--about 15 minutes despite having a reservation, a minor annoyance but made more annoying by the fact that the bar lacked adequate seating. Everything I ate (a little fried calamari; a Caprese salad; chicken martini; profiteroles) was absolutely fine, but I didn't wake up the next morning swooning over the meal I'd had. We ate here because we couldn't get into Carmine's, which remains my first choice for Italian dining in the area.
Chose this last minute and was happy to be accommodated. The staff greeted us warmly as though we were regulars .This set the tone for an enjoyable evening. The wait staff was very attentive and professional. The food was very tasty and familiar Italian options. I would recommend this place and go there again.
Very small and loud dining room.. Meal was ok, not great for the price and expectations. Did not meet expectations per previous reviews. Red sauce was good not great, a little salty and the crab lump was the fishiest tasting crab I have ever tasted, not good.
You can do better in Manhattan for Italian at their prices.
Great staff. Great cocktails. The service was impeccable. The food was delicious. Had appetizers and entrees and everything was hot and delicious. Loved it. Loved the music selection. Got there and it was not very crowded and we liked it that way. Within half an hour the place filled right up and it got very loud. Don't normally like dining with all that noise, but this is typical for NYC. LOVED everything we had. Waitstaff fabulous.
We came here for the first time after a talk at the NYHS nearby. What a great neighborhood red sauce Italian place. Very friendly, not a big place. The bar looked inviting. The menu is great. I need to come back and try the pizza. At my first meal at any Italian restaurant, the acid test is always chicken parm (or linguine vongole). The chicken parm here is wonderful with perfectly al dente spaghetti on the side. Oh, the salads are huge; my wife and I split a salad. Homemade profiteroles for dessert, and we rolled home.
Copppolas had no record of my open Table reservation. They were not even appologetic about it, saying "this happens." Finally there was a table. I was not happy with the rude way I was treated by the manager. If there are mistakes in reervations, a restaurant should at least appologize or offer a dessert or glass of wine. Rudeness is never acceptable.
Came for dinner before a show at the Beacon Theatre. The restaurant was convenient, the food was great, service was very good, and the atmosphere was nice. We arrived early on a Sat night (about 5:45) and had no problem getting a table. By the time we left at 7:30 there were people waiting outside for a table. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meals: the special (mussells) were abundant and very good. I had the Branzino with crabmeat entree and it was very good, although from a "foodie" perspective the branzino was probably too delicate to handle the crabmeat stuffing and it got lost in the dish... i enjoyed it anyway. We got out in plenty of time for the show and all in all everyone thought the good was wholesome and home-cooked and a good value for NYC restaurants.
Very good overall. I ordered the meat ball which arrived the size of a softball, on top of pasta and delicious sweet red sauce. My date orders shrimp parm which was one of the best parms I've ever tried. Great value; not expensive but not cheap either. The service was fast and friendly. Only downside was the subpar tiramisu.
One of the most authentic and best Linguini con vongole (clams) i've had outside of Italy. Briny with lots of garlic and noodles al dente. also had great spaghetti pomodoro with Chicken parmesan. Pizza was ok but the pastas were fabulous. Great service and very nice people.
