Cut to the chase: Food is excellent; service ridiculously slow. Took over 45 minutes to get simple pasta dishes. I've never been to a restaurant where looking around at around at a full restaurant, no one, not a single table I could see (and I could see most), had any food on the table. Not even an appetizer. Very, very noisy, but I expected that.
If you can put up with that (never again for me), the pastas are terrific: papardelle and gnocchi highly recommended. Desserts good too: we enjoyed the zabiglioni and the gelato. Note: cappuccino machine was "broken" -- a harbinger of a restaurant that is soon to go under. I think I know why :-)
A great neighborhood gem with wonderful, delicious organic food. I had the lambchops, which were out of this world! My friend had the steak lasagne, which I tasted. It, too, was fantastic! I would go back in a heartbeat.
We have been to this neighborhood Italian many times, but this time had a very off experience with the service. We arrived on time for our 8:15 reservation, and the restaurant was not full. Without checking, the hostess point blank told us that she didn’t have a reservation for us. “How do you know?” I asked her. She told us she had just seated the last reservation. Since we had made the reservation a half hour before, we suspect she hadn’t looked. I showed her my confirmation, and she seated us without apology for her error. The server who took our order seemed blasé about my food allergy, asked twice, but didn’t write it down even when I asked him to please make sure to check with the chef, and over all did not inspire confidence. Fifteen minutes later a second server came by and introduced himself to take our order, apparently having had our table handed off to him by the first server, but didn’t know our order had already been taken. We were quite confused and started over. We waited more than 45 minutes before any food came, and we had to ask for bread, which normally comes while you’re waiting. The food was, as usual delicious. We have no idea what happened, but felt like the owners have checked out when it comes to training the staff.
I’m guessing They were short on servers. Took waiter 10 minutes just to acknowledge us. Did not acknowledge the wait or apologize. Ravioli special was good. The vegan bucatini carbonara was dry and strange. There was no need for tofu in the dish. It was overkill. And the rest of the ingredients were too small and inconsequential tasting to enjoy. Added some olive oil and salt and pepper, which livened it up. But too dry as is. The service really turned us off the most though.
Great neighborhood place! Food is always good; unpretentious but inventive.
As others have indicated in reviews, the service here is bad. The host sat our party of 4 at a 4-person booth. 5 minutes later a lady with an iPad came over, asked what our reservation name was, and said we were sat in the wrong spot by the host and asked if we wanted to switch tables. We said “no.” At that point we knew that our fear about the service was going to come true.
Then, after ordering wine and wine being brought to our table, the server couldn’t figure out how to open the bottle so we had to help him open it ourselves. After ordering food, we sat for 1.5 hours before our entrees finally came. To top it off, two of the people in our party were vegan and the bus person served one of them the wrong dish which had meat in it. My guest even confirmed with him when he put down the plate if it was vegan and he incorrectly said yes (after one bite of bacon, it was clear that something was wrong his dish). Then we had to wait another 10 minutes for a new dish to come out.
If you’re going to have a full page of vegan options, at least don’t serve people meat lol. It was embarrassing to pick out the place and let down my guest. Service ruined the vibe of the night. The food wasn’t bad, but it took an eternity to come out and we were ready to leave by the time it came.
It’s no wonder they had tables available on a Saturday night. Weird experience.
Service was very slow despite being one of the first seated (over an hour from the time we arrived to receiving our dinner). Fish was painfully overcooked. Pasta was good.
We were there with family, 5 total. Poor, indifferent waiter - slow service, had to ask for water 4 times, came well after food arrived. Then they charged $69 more than bill - couldn't reverse, insisted we pay twice and that we'd probably get the wrong amount back in a few days (but not with confidence). Most importantly, never apologized - my (grown) kids were stunned by the unprofessional behavior.
Good mix of vegan and non-vegan options. Surprisingly, no vegan options for coffee lightener. Would have expected soy or almond milk. Portion sizes were a bit small for my taste but my wife was happy with hers. Homemade hazelnut spread in the dessert was excellent. Bar atmosphere and seating near the front was a bit chilly. Overall, the vegan options make this a good choice but if you're not vegan you can do better.
Great ambiance and friendly service, nice wine choices and deliciously fresh food ... planning to make it one of our new favorite restaurants!
The food was absolutely fantastic. We had 7 different meals with our group and everyone was super impressed. This was a great experience!
Great food. Great ambiance. Great wait staff. Thoroughly enjoying dining experience. Highly recommend.
Outstanding food and service. Great drinks and large selection of wines and local
craft beers. The mushroom and spinach ravioli was outstanding.
Wonderful food. We really appreciated having so many vegan options to choose from. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants good Italian food.
Food is always good , but it takes an inordinate amount of time between ordering and eating. The time between appetizers and meal was excessive
Came here before ZooLights, and the location was very convenient. The food was good, not great. The service was fine- not overly friendly and quite slow. Our dinners came out at separate times, despite one being a salad and there being only 2 of us, and server forgot the only glass of wine we ordered. I was also very disappointed by the creme brulee, couldn't even finish it. Overall fine but probably won't be back
We were delighted to figure out this was the same place that weren’t to on U street many years ago. Loved the menu! Waitress wonderful. Delicious meal.
The food was delicious, however service was not that great. After we were settled at our table, they took very long to get even the first order for drinks ( we were just too thirsty to get water) and ofcourse every subsequent orders. We had our toddler with us, the server didnt get water for her at first, then when food came, no plate or fork/spoon was served for my daughter. Not at all kids friendly restaurant. Moreover, we had mentioned it was my birthday in the reservation, there was no special treatment, not even asking or wishing me , let alone candles or dessert, then why ask for it.Definitely a No for special occassions. I would still go for the amazing and tasty food they serve keeping all these shortcomings in mind :)
The head chef is very knowledgeable about wine and will recommend bottles not listed on the menu. Food is always amazing.
Really not worth it. Plenty of space but food was below average.
Excellent risotto as well as other things. A bit noisy but they did turn down the music when we asked.
Coppi's is one of my favorite restaurants. Superbe food, excellent wine list, and great bar. Service is impeccable, and place has a great vibe. It is a gem in Cleveland Park. I highly recommend it.
Steak Lasagna and the Papardelle were both prepared very well. Nice bottle of Barbera was a great deal for $30.
OMG what a fine. We’re visiting DC and sometimes it’s hard to find a place that has Vegan options and they didn’t disappoint. Haley our server was great. She recommended dishes that were amazing. The Vegan Natulla Calzone is worth a try. Thank you Haley for such awesome service. Give this place a try, you won’t be disappointed.
We ordered family style for the 4 of us and were delighted with great dishes. The grilled apples and greens salad was excellent. The spinach gnocchi with italian spicy sausage was super tasty. The grilled peaches for desert were to die for. The service was good. The place gets a bit too noisy and they should consider turning off the music which no one can hear and it just adds to the overall noise level as well as putting some sound baffle on the ceiling. We will return to this good restaurant.
The service and food were both great! They have wonderful options for vegetarians, vegans, and meat-eaters alike :)
Nice neighborhood restaurant with comfortably spaced booth and angled 4-tops. Busy bar. Tried their pizza this time - a bit pricey but very tasty, soft medium thickness crust, like it that toppings and cheese not liquidy and messy. Enthusiastic and cheerful waitstaff. One of our favorites within walking distance!
The food was amazing and the waiter was very attentive. They have lots of vegan options which is a great bonus.
I’m a vegan. the Vegan chard was spectacular. We had two of their vegan pizzas and they were the best vegan pizzas I’ve had. The cheese was a plus and not just something to endure. I’ll go again happily.
Fantastic food with GREAT vegan options! I had the vegan buccatini and the vegan nutella calzone and they were delicious!
Service was terrible, food was poor, drinks were subpar wish we had never gone...
Delicious dinner and great service!
Very nice and accommodating staff! Very good food and nice ambiance.
Coppi's quality has deteriorated significantly in the last year or so. Our most recent experience makes it unlikely we will return: incredibly slow service (40 minutes to receive our meal) and food that has lost the flavor and enjoyability it once had. Undercooked pizza, for example.
Love this restaurant! Interesting menu, good food, good wine and local ambience...a keeper!
friendly staff, good portions (not too much, but we still felt full), interesting and tasty vegan and vegetarian options
Very nice restaurant. Disappointing for the price. Cannot find great pizza in the DMV.
Love that there are specifically labeled vegan items on the menu. I had the mushroom risotto, which was quite good but lacked the creaminess one expects from risotto (a bit reason I was so excited to find a vegan version). I think the addition of some coconut milk might be just what’s needed. Still, it was delicious with a lovely assortment of perfectly cooked and seasoned vegetables. I was glad a vegan dessert option available. I was too full for anything but sorbet, of which there was not a vegan option. Service was excellent, and server was knowledgeable about vegan choices.
The food was good- the veggie options were decent. The issue is that it was so incredibly loud. I could barely hear my companion and he was sitting right next to me, not even across the table. Definitely don’t try to dine during happy hour.
We didn’t eat here. Friday night and it should be hopping. It wasn’t. The service was dreadful from the beginning. The young woman who spoke to me when I entered was sullen—I actually couldn’t figure out whether she worked at the restaurant or was just walking my way. The restaurant was empty and she tried to seat us at the tiniest table. When I asked for a different table, she put me right next to another party.
Our server was slightly more friendly (a pretty low bar) but inattentive and forgetful. While he was greeting me, the sullen hostess walked up to him know he was being sent home. I did not need to hear the discussion about why she was going home (by I did). I asked for sparkling water and a glass of wine while I waited for my husband. I got the water but not the wine. 10 minutes later, he again asked if I wanted something while I waited. My wine? “What was it you wanted again?”
I cannot comment on the food as I paid for the sparkling water (which I hardly consumed) and left.
Life is too short to dine at such a dreary establishment
