Coppin's - Hotel Covington
This was our first time visiting; it was a special occasion because I had just graduated nursing school. I made a reservation for my family, who were from out of town, and I to celebrate. The ambiance was wonderful and the food did not disappoint, either. Our service was fine; I wish I could say more. Our waitress was unfriendly and at times, seemed annoyed, especially when some of our guests were in the restroom when she came to take our order. It seemed that our group was an inconvenience; which was hard to imagine because we were only 1 of 2 other tables present. The service was unfortunate, but we still had a great meal. I would consider returning, but with lowered expectations in the hospitality department.
Great ambiance, but the food value was terrible. I ordered the brunch avocado toast ($13) which was literally one piece of toast with one egg. I get that you are paying for the location etc., but I feel like the meal should have at least been two pieces of toast.
Everything was great! Nice evening. Wish they would validate parking ...that’s the only negative.
Always a great experience and atmosphere .
My girlfriend and I were staying in the Hotel, and chose dinner in the restaurant there, Coppins. Overall, the experience was excellent. The food was VERY fresh tasting (including the scallops, which can be a challenge in that category). Sauces and supporting ingredients were creative and really nice, very subtle adds to the main item. The deep fried truffles were nice, and the stewed pear garden salad was excellent, as was the squash burrata. Our server Dan was top notch, knowledgeable, efficient, and also willing to take a few minutes to chat and offer his perspectives on Covington (to which we were new). The only reason for the 3 star on the ambiance is that it was a bit cold in the restaurant; however it has quite a bit of glass space, and the temperatures outside had dropped rather rapidly, so the heat might have taken some time to catch up. Also, we had breakfast there the following morning (also a really pleasant, yummy experience!) and the temps were just fine. Definitely a gem of a place in a historical setting!
Third time is a charm. Our first dining experience was not memorable.............terrible service, out of everything we ordered. Second attempt was for brunch.............better. Third time...............great service, loved sitting out where the bar is...........food was outstanding. I had the scallops, my husband had the chicken, which he really enjoyed, and my son the striped bass. We will visit again.
We went to Coppin's for my daughter's birthday. We all enjoyed our meals, excellent service, great cocktails, beautiful atmosphere. We will definitely be coming back for another fantastic meal!! Highly recommend this restaurant!!
Delicious food. I could have made a meal on the cold bar alone! We will be back!
Service was awful - quick to take extra glassware, nowhere to be found for a drink. The service staff seemed uninterested in our table. Food was okay - understand it was a buffet, but items weren’t at the proper temperature. Food was generally room temp, outside the shrimp, properly cold on ice. Everything was shut down promptly at 9, highly unexpected when service took nearly 20 minutes to get a drink to the table.
Was on my list for awhile, huge let down. Didn’t even have free parking.
Great thanksgiving layout and very festive decor
The Thanksgiving buffet had something for everyone and I tried everything. The turkey was great, the shrimp was plentiful and the sides were endless
What a extraordinary way to spend Thanksgiving meal. The turkey was juicy; the prime rib was fabulous. The sides were amazing, and the desserts delectable! A new tradition for sure.
Tremendous Thanksgiving Buffet! We enjoyed everything about dining at Coppins for Thanksgiving dinner. I hesitate writing this review because it was so wonderful that we want to make this a tradition -- and I don't want any difficulty getting a reservation! Everything was perfect. Thank you so very much.
Wonderful Thanksgiving dinner!! I think we found our yearly place!! Please continue it!
The Thanksgiving Buffett was really good and the venue is beautiful.
The food was good, but just warm. Needed to be hotter. If the food was hotter, it would have been excellent.
Good and service are impeccable, as always.
Gets better everytime I go back. Beautiful venue and the food was aweso.e
Inconsistent service. They were all friendly, but most were pretty flighty. Sometimes they were there when you needed them and sometimes they'd just disappear. They would also forget drinks or to-go boxes (when I asked a second time, I suddenly had tow different people bring me boxes after someone had finally simply taken my plate back to the kitchen to have it boxed there).
Also, parking. I got really lucky and found one free parking space! But otherwise you'd have to find a meter or pay $5 at the garage. And from what I was told they only validate parking if you're a guest.
Decent food. By far, the fries were my favorite part of my meal. The inside was soft and SUPER flavorful. The outside was perfectly crunchy. My burger was decent. I was bummed that I really couldn't taste the bacon jam....I mostly tasted a spicy mayo it had. Good. But not what I'd been looking forward to. Also, they had a seasonal sweet potato fritter. The texture was AWESOME - comparable to a funnel cake with a really nice chew. But they totally relied on the maple syrup sauce as far as flavor goes.
We have been coming to Coppins since the first week it opened. We have hung in there through 6-7 different chef changes, multiple menu changes and multiple service staff changes. It's just my wife and I now and we eat at area restaurants 300+ nights a year. When it first opened, we ate at Coppins virtually every week--many times more than once including brunch on the weekend. Now we eat there once every 4-6 weeks. We keep hoping for another chef change and a better more customer friendly menu--but so far no luck! Great menu items like the giant short rib or the steak and frites have been replaced with items that try to be ultra chic and gourmet. The entree selection has gotten VERY limited--especially for those that would eat here often. The "for two" items added by the chef before the current one are a waste.
We love this restaurant--the ambiance and the people ( although we miss many of the original people that have left for greener pastures) --although we don't know many of the newer people as well since we don't dine as often as we once did.
We would like to see a better, less chic menu with more entree items and less emphasis on shared plates. Yes I am sure people order shared plates--we certainly have-but I think many times they do this because the entrees are so expensive and less appealing. We would also like to see less emphasis on use of the Atrium, patio and lobby bar area for reserved group functions. We have had several times when we tried to reserve only to be told they were closed for group functions. This does not help develop a regular restaurant clientele. Anyway, we will continue try again every so often. Hope springs eternal that maybe one of the first two chefs will return to save the day!
We celebrated my friends birthday dinner there and it was fantastic! Everything from the service to the food was 5 stars. She felt so loved and we left feeling very full and satisfied. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Scallops weren't available (at 6:30 PM on Saturday!?!) after half our group ordered them. But waiter didn't bring us menus when he delivered the news. Our $50 steaks were underdone ... bloody not medium. They eliminated our favorites from their very limited menu. We won't return.
Foods going downhill. Missed some of the older items fried came out cold.
It was okay. Scallops were a bit drowning in a thick sauce that took away the flavor. Overpriced for quality and the service that you would expect. Super energetic and a tad noisy with other events taking place in the restaurant. The location and the overall look and feel of the restaurant is stunning and alluring.
Promptly seated for Sunday brunch for two. We did not stay at the Hotel and were glad we had reservations as many people were waiting for seats. Service was slow and took almost 40 minutes for food to arrive, but coffee came quickly so were were content. Food was very good. OJ + coffees + entrees + tip = $45 (no alcohol drinks or dessert).
Unique food and cocktail offerings in a lovely urban setting.
The food was delicious and service was great! We are looking forward to returning soon.
Our server was excellent and thorough with her menu selections. Meal was very good as always. I enjoy eating at Coppin's.
We had business guests in and got some drinks in the couch area before we headed to the restaurant part for our dinner. Our service was pretty bad during our cocktail hour. No one came to greet us or get our drinks for at least 15 minutes, and when she finally came over she was very short and rude and not welcoming at all. I had even told the hostess that we had business in so to make sure we had good service.
We ordered two bottles of wine and she didn't even let anyone taste it and just poured the wine and walked away. We realized one of our glasses had lipstick stain on the top so we went and told her and she took it away with wine in it and brought back a new empty glass - so we were basically shorted a glass of wine.
All in all it was just a pretty unpleasant experience and our business guests we had in noticed it as well. Pretty disappointing since we bring guests for drinks, dinner and book rooms here almost weekly on a corporate rate. May not be coming back with business! The cocktail waitresses name was Emily.
BUT, our dinner was fantastic and we had a very friendly and prompt server so that helped smooth over the night a little bit.
From the moment we arrived thr customer service began, and it was incredible. The food was amazing. Don't miss out on the tots, crazy good.
2 person tables to close together.
Great food, great ambiance, good wine list! I will be back.
we had a wonderful time! the food was amazing, server was great, price was right for the food. loved the feel of it. will definitely be back for another date night!
We visited for our anniversary.
Everything was perfect!
Five things on the menu. What a let down. You call that a menu? Date night ....and we both had a burger. Wow....
Food was amazing. We had the Pork and the stripped bass. both perfectly cooked. The tater tots seem weird at first but are sooo goood. The beer selection was terrific as well. Several local beers and some on nitro. Will definitely return again!
It is a great "hotel restaurant." But knowing all of the amazing options in the Cincinnati-Covington-Newport area I think there are some better choices available. Granted we did go on a day where they were preparing for their Halloween party, it did seem like their restaurant was a bit of an after thought.
Always a great experience. We love the hotel cov!!
Great brunch experience! Very nice ambience and the food is always delicious!
Very nice Sunday brunch!
