COPPERNOSE Bar, The Mitre Hotel
The Coppernose Bar takes its name from Henry VIII who was nicknamed “Coppernose” after he issued cheap currency. During the English Reformation, Henry’s kingdom amassed great wealth and property by confiscating Catholic monasteries. Nevertheless, by the end of his reign Henry’s funds ran low and he was forced to lower the percentage of silver in British coinage, to the point where they were mostly copper with a silver coating that wore away from the relief image of Henry’s face, starting with the nose.

Very pleasant afternoon tea. More savouries would have been nice and maybe less cake. The scones were really good. The river view was good but some of the windows were not as clear as they could have been. There was not very much atmosphere in the room compared to the Orangery below
Lovely place to go for a drink and nibbles. However, there was a big group of women who were annoyingly loud and screechy..... Not the fault of staff at The Mitre, but it spoilt the night a little as we spent a lot of it shouting....
Seats by the windows quite uncomfortable and lighting too bright for evening.
Pop music playing, would have been better to have a cosier atmosphere.
Excellent spot, smartly done interior, completely unrecognisable compared to what was there before. This is a swanky hotel opposite a major tourist destination but the restaurant and bar(s) deserve to be a destination in their own right. I highly recommend this establishment. Good job team!
The food was nice but nothing extra special. My husbands eggs were over cooked and his bacon wasn’t crispy.
Having enjoyed a great dinner here - the brunch was underwhelming. The menu wasn't that interesting and the food was good but didn't stand out compared to other places within this price range. Service was slow despite not many covers being occupied but I am mindful of staff shortages and largely new/possibly inexperienced staff due to the pandemic...but overall, underwhelming for brunch.
Lovely Saturday brunch in the Orangery. Relaxed atmosphere with good food.
Food and Drink was find but service was really slow given how quiet they were and how many members off staff seemed to just be standing around.
Slow service not the usual standard for the Mitre that we normally experience.
Great food, service and atmosphere! Highly recommend
We booked a table at the Coppernose Bar for pre drinks before dinner in the main restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary - the service in the bar was absolutely atrocious! No one came over to take our drinks order, so about 10-15 minutes after waiting patiently we had to get the waitresses attention to order a drink, she was very unhelpful. We then waited around 20-25 minutes and still no drinks. In the end we cancelled our drinks order and left the bar. When we spoke to the waitress, she genuinely couldn’t care less, not even an apology. If I could have rated our experience lower than one star I would have. I’m hoping it was just a one off but we definitely will not be going there again.
Our first time at The Mitre but will come again, love the idea of Sunday Lunch with music from a boat on the River but will need to know dates? Had a good breakfast before the Hampton Flower Show and great service.
Very good reception. Good table by the window. Helpful pleasant waiter. Coffee could have been hotter but overall the food was very good.
The food was lovely but the service didn’t quite match up, it was a breakfast service so it may be better at lunch or dinner
It was our wedding anniversary and the staff made it feel special.
We had looked forward to this opening. It was Very disappointing.
Chose Coppernose for an early Father’s Day family breakfast. Lovely room, views and atmosphere. Interesting choice of options to keep all 4 of us happy (2 adults + 2 kids; good coffee and everything we had was delicious. Friendly service, if a little stretched at the peak of things. We’d definitely return/recommend.
Awful experience. Sat down, no one attended to us for 30 minutes until I went to the bar to ask for a drink - which then took a further 10 minutes to arrive - we were a party of 2 on a Sunday at 5pm so it’s was very quiet.
Food was very average - not a seasonal menu. Asked for beef to be medium rare - came out medium well done, roasties clearly reheated - very hard and dry.
No dessert menu offered - basically no service provided - shocking as they promote themselves to be high end which they are most definitely not.
Very very disappointing as we are local and were excited for this to be a new place we could regularly go to.
A lovely set with an amazing view over the river. We had a lovely late lunch ended with the amazing Baked Alaska.
My only criticism is that I thought I had booked for an afternoon tea, even specifying in the special request that I wanted « two vegetarian full afternoon teas ». Turns out they don’t do on Sundays, which was my bad for not reading the site properly but they could have got back to me upon reading the request that it wouldn’t be possible to have an afternoon tea that day.
Food was disappointing and massively overpriced. Won’t be returning.
Lovely staff and gorgeous surroundings. Always a pleasure to be there.
Another lovely night at the Mitre !
Food was excellent as was the service.
Special mention to Nell who always smiling and a great hostess !
Jilly and Seany
Welcomed beautifully, looked after really well, the food was delicious and the location just perfect. A wonderful evening. Thank you!
A very pleasant dining experience, great setting/location, friendly staff, carefully prepared and well presented food, well-spaced seating and low noise levels. Only minor quibble was some slight unresponsiveness with the service: our tapas served without any serving cutlery or bread/rolls and when we asked for some spoons to assist serving they were some time in coming. Same with request for bread rolls which met with friendly puzzlement and suggestion that they would be more appropiate for Mediterranean food, which is of course what the tapas were. I had to insist and was then told toasted sourdough could be provided; no need to toast I said, just please a few slices of sourdough will do the job fine. Nearly ten minutes later a plate of toasted sourdough arrived, so well after the tapas had been served. Perhaps due to a slight communication problem and this was the only minor point which would be easily rectified, but overall as recorded this was a very enjoyable place to eat, drink and have conversation, we much appreciated the care taken to make us comfortable and secure given the Covid-19 circumstances and we look forward to returning.
Another amazing meal at the Coppernose restaurant. The white raspberry chocolate soufflé was delicious.
Went with the boyfriend and couple of friends.
POSITIVES: Lovely view of the river. Nice decor. Friendly, helpful staff...they were happy to accommodate my particular cocktail taste and made me cocktails that weren't on the list.
NEGATIVES: bar menu...delicious food but we wanted a proper meal.
Staff would forget us even though it wasn't busy.
Atmosphere was ok...but that could be because it wasn't too busy.
It's a mixture between a bar and brasserie which is great but think people want more food. Will be back and hope they wrk on the negatives as would make for a nice local hangout place.
Not a great choice and overpriced.
We were offered a table next to the entrance with a view of some net curtains covering the window. When we asked if we could have one of the 4 seats in the window ,begrudgingly we could take our pick. House cocktail came in a flute which was half full and really not very good.
Portions were tiny, prawn and avocado salad. I had a quarter of an avacado and about 12 small prawns, for £14.50 I would say this is a bit grim. I’ve eaten in many restaurants and will never go back to this one which is a shame as the location is amazing.
Perfect location for a brunch with friends. We’ll be back
Food was excellent, service very poor, staff didn’t seem to know what was going on and where food needed to be. Told all food came together there was no choice to stagger it but then some food came out and other food didn’t. Told there was a new member of staff when complained! Female waitress tried to address issue but poorly done. Rescued by Maitre D’ who offered free puddings and was apologetic. This dampened our experience. Previous visits have been exemplary. Hope it doesn’t happen again as one of my fave places to eat
Really enjoyed our first time here. It's strange to leave the best seats nearest the window empty, even for those that have booked some time in advance. Very professional service. The oysters were fantastic!
Food was fabulous, decor was relaxed and cool. We really enjoyed it!
Had a lovely time at Coppernose. The sun was out and even though we were outside we had great views of the river. The menu choice was a little limited but there was some lovely dishes on it. The popcorn cauliflower was fantastic. The cocktails was really amazing too. They even bought out a Happy Birthday plate for my wife which was a nice touch. The service was impeccable. Smiley, helpful always on it. Thank you for a lovely evening.
We were very excited to visit the Mitre Hotel, and Coppernose for brunch having had to cancel a previous visit due to lockdown and were not disappointed with the views and restaurant layout. However, minor details such as lack of teaspoon with the tea/coffee, non-arrival of breakfast items, cold mushrooms and beans still didn't mar our visit and the staff were very accommodating with resolving these issues. Overall, we will visit again, possibly for a drink as the views of the Thames are wonderful and you cannot fail to be impressed - we just hope the staff can pick up on these details.
As ever, the Mitre didn’t disappoint. Inclement weather and a relaxed lunch meeting meant we booked the Coppernose instead of the brasserie. It was lively, service was, as always, impeccable, and the food was top notch. Lovely bottle of Fleurie to wash it all down. Please keep doing what you do team. It’s excellent.
So glad that this beautifully situated hotel has been renovated. We had a delicious meal, with excellent social distancing in place and friendly, efficient service. Decoration is light and bright and the Sunday menu had a good choice of meals including vegetarian options.
Coppernose was very lovely. I had a meal with my kids and they haven’t stopped raving about it since!
Amazing restaurant...stunning food-child and dog friendly..staff fab..a must
Staff were great, the food was amazing.
Will be back
Lovely Sunday lunch!! Perfect views and food was excellent. Restaurant was warm and cosy. Would go back. May try 1665 as apparently same menu on Sundays? I think the Sunday lunch is much better than the dinner I ate recently (2 visits!) on the terrace. First time fish pie was very runny and 2nd time lamb was completely over cooked. And served with brown lentils which made the whole plate brown. Could maybe have put some colour on the plate. Although I had requested medium. Disappointed as had taken friends on both occasions. But highly recommend Sunday lunch.
The new decor is lovely and the service was very good. The food however, was a bit of a let down. I had the scrambled eggs and salmon, just comes on its own and is rather expensive. The portions were very small. My sister had fritters, avocado and salsa, there were 3 tiny cubes of avocado. The food definitely needs some improvement.
