Super nice and knowledgeable service. I ate all vegan dishes and they were tasty and satisfying. Drink choices were unique and delicious.
Copper spoon was a great experience. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Our waiter was informative and attentive. He was polite and had a small sense of humor. I would definitely come back again and recommend to a friend! The food was excellent and was well worth the price.
We came for dinner and had a great time. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was hip. The food was tasty but a little on the salty side. I will go again.
This place is great and the karaoke was so much fun!
This restaurant has so much character and their service is outstanding. Great restaurant for a date night, a special occasion, or even just a great cocktail on a week night. Highly recommend!!
Love this spot easy to walk to and taxi home!
Cocktails amazing - seafood dish with a delicious broth !
Chicken wings as a starter yum alert
Dessert great !
A true favorite on our list !!
Staff super friendly and knowledgeable
Place was smaller than expected. food was good, but selection limited. My Manhattan was great
Small, but unique menu. Everything we ate was of excellent taste. Will definitely visit when in Oakland.
Our first time here, in our neighborhood. Chicken Wings were very tasty and not over cooked , especially nice touches like the fried onions garnish.
My shrimp and clam entree had juicy clams in a delicious broth with snap peas, however the shrimp were over cooked and tough to eat. Wish they’d left the shrimp in the shell for flavor.
Very tasty food, well presented, and served by pleasant people who seem to be enjoying themselves.
Great place!! Love the Vintage feel!
Service was amazing! Drinks were superb. Food was delicious. And the music choices were on point! Definitely a new favorite place of ours.
We stumled into this place after having been mioslead about a reservation throuh Yelp at another restaurant. Very pleasantly surprised - cordial service, good beer. wine, and cocktail choices, and good food! We enjoyed the lamb burger, muscles and shrimp, oysters, deviled eggs, and salads. Cool interior design. Would definitely go back.
The Copper Spoon is clearly a place which focuses on quality food, not snobbery. The ambiance is mellow and relaxed, the service and food is first rate.
First time there, had an amazing dinner with my mom. Our server was Sarah and she was really knowledgeable about the menu, gave excellent suggestions for both food and drinks! The back room was adorable and it was great for larger parties, definitely loud! The front would be better for more intimate dates but the back could be intimate too without parties. Just depends. Over all, the food was amazing (a bit too much chimichurri sauce on my steak) but the mussels were phenomenal! The cauliflower and broccoli were also top notch! Thank you!!!!
Food was mostly pretty good. We had to wait 20 minutes for a table even though we had a reservation. The waitress and the bartender were excellent, but the food was very slow coming out of the kitchen, fortunately we were not in a hurry. Very nice atmosphere and a beautiful bar. Would come back for drinks and snacks at the bar, not sure about dinner.
Deviled eggs had TOO much going on, my salad was drowning in dressing, chicken wings had a seasoning I could not place(did NOT like).
Now, the mussels & shrimp and the salmon wrap were very good, as were the bar offerings.
Every dish - amazing. Drinks, excellent and service was perfect. We had a really great time overall - highly recommended.
A cluster of mishaps ruined (repeatedly) the whole experience. Food came cold, then incredibly salty (inedible), then plainly mediocre. Very sad, and the only thing positive was the service. Will not repeat, nor recommend
This is one of my favorite places - the ambiance is fun and comfortable! Their drinks are just want you want and need - flavorful and smooth. Their food is exceptionally delicious! And, the service is always attentive.
The food was not even “ok” they need a chef! The cauliflower was soggy and tasteless, the chicken wings were cooked correctly but again there was no flavor, the muscles were cooked ok and tasted bland, and the shrimps were over cooked!
Go for drinks but do not eat here!
After making this reservation we have eaten at Copper Spoon two more times. All great very consistent restaurant. We need to come here on a live music night.
Nothing was terrible in any way—it was just underwhelming. The drinks were very sweet and not interesting, and the food wasn’t as good as most competing eateries with similar offerings. Many similar spots on Grand, Lakeshore, etc. this place would have been better as a date spot, and hanging by the bar would have been far more lively than the seating area. Service was fine, no problems with any of the people interacting with us. Just, underwhelming all around.
Great drinks. Food was pretty good. Cool ambiance. Service was very good.
We walked in and immediately were welcomed with the cozy, chill ambiance and friendly host. We opted to sit at the bar, where the bartenders were slow to get to us at first and throughout the evening. However, cocktails were satisfactory and one of bartenders was very knowledgeable about the wine list, which was appreciated. Would recommend the buttermilk chicken wings and chickpea burger. The brussel sprouts were overly tossed in Parmesan, which took over the flavor and all that we could taste. Despite that, overall a good experience, will be back, and would recommend to others.
My wife and I were really impressed. Every bite was delicious and the servers were so kind. This will be our new date spot for sure.
We attended a comedy night on a Tuesday. This review only applies to that one night (our first and only visit) and event.
Good: The interior of the CS is nice. Good vibe, nice decor, good layout, plenty of seating at the bar. Decent drink menu, plenty to choose from. Drink prices were in line with my expectations.
Bad: Terrible service. Felt ignored by bartenders and staff, who seemed oblivious overall.
Food was overpriced. For fun I ordered the ribeye steak ($45). It came pre-cut, thin, and while tasty, was not a $45 steak. My companion ordered the large Gulf shrimp and mussels at $26. Again, food was good and more reasonably priced.
We came to see the standup comedy they host on Tuesday nights. What was not mentioned on the CS website or when I called to make reservations was the additional charge ($10 pp) for the comedy show, even though I told the hostess my reservations were for dinner and the comedy. We ended up having to hand over another $20 to see the comedians at the table we reserved.
The comedians were okay, if not totally original, with some good laughs. Lots of applause begging - “any single ladies? Couples? Parents?” etc. Be prepared for a lot of f-bomb and n-word dropping if you’re into that sort of thing.
At the end of the 5 comedian set, they “passed the hat” for donations for the comics. Apparently they don’t get a cut of the cover. This meant one of the comedians standing in front of audience members with a large metal donation container until the audience member coughed up a donation. It felt mandatory. And again, we’d already paid $20 just to see them, in addition to an overpriced dinner.
I think next time we’ll skip dinner and the show, along with all the hidden fees, and just go for drinks. Provided we can get the bartender’s attention.
Nice local bar with interesting cocktails. Food is limited, some things not available due to access to fresh ingredients so okay with us. Tasty bites with variety.
We really enjoyed my husband's birthday dinner at Copper Spoon recently. The back room where we were seated was perfectly lit, cozy, and not too loud. Service was excellent. The menu is fairly limited, but the offerings employ interesting spices and combinations so that even deviled eggs and a lamb burger are given fresh interpretations (the latter being especially tasty). The drinks were also very good. We'll definitely be back.
Really fun little place. Eclectic menu. Funky decor. One of a kind!
Wonderful food, and very friendly (though somewhat slow) service. My muscles and prawns were *awesome*. We were seated in the back lounge area, which was cozy, but our table was too tall for the shorter guests, and didn't match the rest of the decor. The sound level was perfect but only after we asked that the speaker just over our table be turned down. The front room across from the bar was more visually appealing and the tables (booths) looked as though they would be more physically comfortable but I'm sure it would have been much noisier there. Overall a great place, that's sure to continue to evolve.
Food and cocktails were very good as was service - kitchen was a bit slow but an enjoyable evening.
An unfortunate first time experience at the copper spoon. Reservations were made with some very dear friends on Valentine’s Day. I sent a private email inquiring about vegan options, as the regular menu (online) appeared to show this was possible. However, when we all arrived, we were presented with a Valentine’s prefix menu and a limited regular menu. We explained there were strict vegans at the table and wanted to know what the options were. The server seemed to stumble & mistakenly suggested vegetarian (not vegan), offering us deviled eggs etc. Ordered Veggie polenta. Not vegan, though we had to take a few bites to determine there was most certainly animal products such as, butter or milk. 15 minutes later, the server came back and realized she had made a severe mistake after asking AGAIN. Yep- cream & cheese. There was no offer to have the kitchen whip up something specifically vegan. Overall, we had minimal service other than our water being filled up every few seconds. Drinks took up to 15 minutes to deliver. We asked for bread later & they brought it out with melted butter all over it. Charged us &3! We were not listened to the entire time we were there. The service was poor at best. Granted, it was a busy valentine’s night but we did have a reservation and I never did get a reply to the email that I sent.
Poor customer service & little responsibility taken for the lack of attention to detail.
I would recommend servers be educated on food preferences & the findamental difference between vegan & vegetarian, gluten-free, etc. If anybody at the table would have had a severe allergy for example, this would be another conversation. There were vegans at the table who had been vegans for over 20 years & they could’ve become very sick as a result, if they had continued to eat what was presented to them & told was vegan. BIG Liability.
As a local small business owner, I am super disappointed in the lack of fundamental customer service skill sets.
Pros: Lovely ambiance, great music, friendly service, reasonable prices, delicious drinks.
Cons: Limited food choices and some dishes were over-seasoned.
Party of four. Sunday Evening. We started out with a waiter who was personality plus. We started with drinks. My dining companions were all into mezcal and had a good time with all the drink choices. We had starters of brussel sprouts and Korean chicken wings. Neither disappointed. I had the lamb burger and it was ah-maz-ing! Two companions had the small portion of shrimp and mussels, which was plenty with the starters. Another companion had the chickpea burger and really enjoyed it. We finished the evening with coffee and two companions had the vegan mousse and they seemed to like it although it looked a little too loose to be considered a mousse or pot de creme. Overall, really great special occasion meal.
Fantastic food and very cute restaurant!
First let me say that our server was fabulous. The food was not good and everything was way overpriced.
My favorite spot in Oakland! Do not miss this place!
Went during restaurant week - which was the first mistake! Thought that for $40/person, it would be ample food, but the portions were small and the protein was skimpy. It took hella long for our food to arrive (despite not being that busy), and the food itself wasn't great. The flavors were one-note and lacked texture. The highlight: the hummus was awesome. I should have just had 4 servings of hummus. The gumbo didn't taste like anything except spice, and it was supposed to be shrimp and crab but didn't have any shrimp. The coconut ice cream was the size of a child's dessert. The drink I got was on the rocks (heavily) but served in an ice-cream sundae style cup... which meant that the ice just kept attacking my nose. The server was nice, but everything just took so freaking long, it was hard to appreciate decent service. Maybe things are different when it isn't restaurant week though!
Service was nonexistent. We waited 30 minutes to order and another hour for our food. When food did arrive, it was either burnt or missing elements. Ruined my friend’s birthday.
