Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant - Reston
Overall very happy, outstanding service and great waiter. My only critique is that I requested a bottle of Almond Champaign at the table at the time of my visit. I confirmed the day before of my reservation and my request of a bottle of Almond Champaign ready at the table for my girlfriends birthday. Over the phone I was told I had nothing to worry about as they have my request in front of them and it would be fullfilled. Upon arriving and getting my table for my reservation, there was no champaign at the table so I had to order it from the server after double checking twice that it would be done. It would have been a nice surprise for my girlfriend to have her favorite champaign ready at the table as requested and double checked prior to our arrival.
Very pleased with the service and the staff was accommodating, serving us before, upon request, our reservation. Extremely appreciative.
Overall this is a great location with helpful, friendly staff that are very accommodating. The only reason this is not a full on 5 star event was 2 of our steaks were dry. The 6 other people at our table had flawless dinners. Love this location and will continue to support and recommend it to my friends.
The server was very forgetful. It had several times. He got our food mixed up and then we had to wait like five minutes for one entree (there was only three of us).
- Vibrant bar scene
- Great bar service
- Steaks were overcooked.
- Tuna was overseasoned
- Understaffed. Had to ask for silverware after the meals arrive, request drink refills, and check up on the status of our orders. All on a Wednesday night. -- Management error....oops.
- Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant sells wine by the glass and bottle. BUT.....if you buy a bottle, they will charge you a corking fee. Never heard such a thing in a restaurant. Ridiculous.
Great food and wine, but so loud difficult to have conversations.
The food was good. Service was very slow and our waiter would take our order then we wouldn't see him for quite a while. We wondered if he had forgotten that he was serving us.
CHW&R continues to maintain a very high standard for dining time and time again.
Consistent kitchen, good value and good service. Parking, particularly for handicapped customers could be better.
We cannot begin to say how much we love Cooper's Hawk and just celebrated my Birthday.. From the wine tasting when you walk in, to the fabulous food, wonderful staff, special treats.. we just love it here!! Thank you for a fab Night.. Vege Burger and Coconut fish were unreal!!
First time there so it was a great experience. The first server was not even assigned to our table but saw that we were sitting there and came over and started the ball rolling. He was great and gets four stars. The server assigned to our table needed a bit more prompting. For example, he told us that the brussels spouts were "temporarily unavailable". When asked when they would be available he did not know and he had to be told to inquire. And guess what.....all of sudden we had a brussels spouts appetizer. As a matter of fact, two dishes came to the table although we ordered one. The first server kept coming back to check on us and we all agreed that he needed to be cloned.
Excellent service, delicious food, great atmosphere and our server was the best! We will definitely be back. Thank you
We had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while. Very nice restaurant. Great wine selection with knowledgeable people to talk to about wine. We joined the wine club and took home 2 bottles that night. Service was outstanding and the food was delicious. The atmosphere was on the loud side. We dined Friday after 8pm and it was pretty lively.
Everything was wonderful! We could not have had a better server!
Seemed like I kept smelling a dirty rag or maybe the smell of the dish room. I actually requested to move tables to something away from the far side.
Wife’s order of chicken something-or-other salad came without chicken. Doh! Wife said it was missing a bunch of other ingredients too. Waiter fixed it pretty fast.
I had steak salad with double meat (my usual) and it was great (as usual).
Food is good. Staff is good. Usually my experience probably rates a 4 stars but this last time with the “stanky” smell and the botched order ... gotta go with ‘average’
Chris is a very good waiter. We love the food and Gewurztraminer wine
We are wine club members and have dined here several times and been very happy, that was NOT the case tonight. Despite making a reservation (and a late one at that - 8 pm) we had wait 30 min for a table. We waited at the bar - the bartender was very good - attentive & polite. Can not the same about our server. He was all attitude from the very outset. Having already waited 30 min we were eager & ready to order. I immediately ordered our favorite wine (the Lux Meritage) using our club points. He was strangely cross saying “you know it is a $17 up charge right” and claimed we could only use points if we had our actual card. We had to correct him and explain that we could use points for 2 regular bottles in exchange for 1 Lux bottle and insist he look up our membership using our phone number. The wine took a long time to arrive. Hubby’s fish & chips were shaped like fish sticks, not an entire filet and that was a little off putting, but they tasted fine. I had the spare ribs braised in wine - which was fine. We split a crime brûlée for dessert which was topped with an aromatic and deliciously fresh mint garnish, but the crime itself was somewhat loose & runny. It had not set up properly
Excellent food! We both had the special; filet mignon with ravioli stuffed with truffles and it was delicious!
Service was a little slow because it got busy however.
We went to Cooper's Hawk Winery for my husband's birthday and the food, the service and the ambiance was perfect! The dinner selections were paired with the wine and it was superb!
Food and service was excellent. Not every table in a restaurant is equal. Also we had a long walk with my physically challenged Son to a table that had not been cleaned.
The food and wine were very good. We had a special diet diner in our party and the waiter provided information about the dishes and options for that diners requirements.
Great food and service. Excellent wines to taste and enjoy!
We sat outside and had another great experience! Being summer time. CHW now offers many new Sangria options and we tried a few of them which were great. We are also wine club members, (highly recommend that to anyone - great deal) so we sampled our two wines we had to pick up which they graciously allow you to do. And our waitress Kala, was outstanding, very personable and knowledgeable of the food and wine, and we had a great meal to boot! This is our favorite restaurant in Reston!
Wow I managed to get a reservation!! Must be summer lul. However, it was still jam packed. I can never get to the bar for my free monthly membership wine sampling. I guess people start jamming the bar starting at 3 p.m. on Friday.
Food and service is always excellent. Wines are always excellent. Knowledgable wait staff. Very extensive and diverse menu. Something for everyone.
Really enjoyed sitting outside where it was much quieter
By far the best food we have ever had! The service was great... we will be back soon!
This place was great! Awesome wines and food. Our waiter was wonderful. Very helpful and fun. I will definitely be back.
OpenTable doesn't allow a third choice on whether I would recommend Cooper's Hawk to a friend. I chose "yes" because there's certainly nothing wrong with the place. There's no reason to dislike the place, but I will not hurry back.
Walking into Cooper's Hawk is a lot like walking into a Cracker Barrel. Lots of merchandise in the anteroom, noise levels that tip into annoying. I had a 7:00 pm reservation for two for which we arrived 20 minutes early. Despite the fact that half the tables in the dining room were empty, they wouldn't seat us until 7 on the dot--but encouraged us to buy a glass of wine from the wine bar, or a cocktail from the real bar. Always be marketing, right?
The menu is all over the place, offering everything from ahi tuna to tenderloin medallions. I had the wedge salad and trio of medallions, and both were perfectly . . . okay. Nothing special, but nothing awful. If Outback Steakhouse and Red Lobster are your thing, then Cooper's Hawk is a solid step up. If you prefer a quiet evening of imaginative cuisine with personal service, then not so much.
Here's one positive note--and it's a strong one. The wines we had were really very good. I had a glass of the Viognier while waiting for our empty table to become available, and it was one of the best I've had. The real surprise was their Super Tuscan, available for less than $30 per bottle. It was outstanding.
So, with the food getting a C and the wine getting an A, Cooper's Hawk earns a solid B.
We enjoyed the food, excellent service, and appreciate the variety of gluten-free offerings from appetizers all the way through dessert! Also the recommended wine pairings were spot on!
This restaurant has gone down hill since my last visit.New waitress wrong drink order,20 minutes to get all 4 diners the right drink. She dumps our table without telling us & we wait another 20 minutes for another waitress. Food was horrible. We won't return with poor service & food.
As a first time customer, I found our service to be incredibly slow, however the food and the ambiance were outstanding. Will definitely visit again!
Very enjoyable evening. We were able to introduce or friends from out-of-town to Coopers Hawk. They
intend to come again. Service was top-notch.
Our server, Gabriel, went above and beyond to take care of us. My red wine braised short ribs were salty, but the food is always good there.
Terrible food this time
It was my birthday and I love the Gewurztraminer wine and the food was awesome.
Great food and wine!
Teresa J. was an excellent server. She was very attentive, courteous and committed to providing us an outstanding dining experience. She really kept the iced tea refills coming at a good clip which we greatly appreciated.
Not surprisingly the service was subpar again. Minimal manager presence and difficulty with timing to say the least. Food and menu always impress, but I consistently wonder why I keep returning.
We love the business model with great wine and food but the service at the Reston location needs a lot of improvement. We’ve gone a number of times, even joined the wine membership club thinking initially that they simply were experiencing start up pains. Now we fear it’s weak management, training and personnel. Go to any of the Great American Restaurants in Reston or NOVA and you’ll experience how restaurant service should be done.
