Coombe The Melba Estate
Located within the restored motor house and historic clock tower and under the helm of Chef Neil Cunningham, our restaurant serves Contemporary Modern Australian a la carte menu options.
An inspiring selection of seasonal and estate grown produce is on offer for morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea 6 days a week.
The restaurant is modern, spacious yet intimate and overlooks the landscaped market-style courtyard of the beautifully restored facilities. The view from the conservatory is of the Coombe cottage garden ‘avenue’ and gives glimpses of the oldest swimming pool in Victoria.
Beautiful place for Special occasion or treat. Decor fresh, light and added to the experience. Food exceptional. Roasted Red Onion Tarte Tartin was an ordinary Veg that got moved from the Kitchen to the 'Ballroom'. I had the Slow Cooked Wagyu Beef-best beef dish I have ever eaten. You could have eaten it with a spoon it was so tender and full of flavour. We eat with our eyes and the presentation of all dishes was pure artistry. Service was impeccable and helpful, Wait Staff with personality.
My husband, eldest son and myself had an enjoyable Afternoon Tea which came with Sparkling Wine. As soon as our glass was empty, my husband and I were offered a top-up. Our son does not drink alcohol and he had a coke instead at no extra charge. There was a mixture of both delicious savoury and sweet food. We also received warm scones but would have liked a little more jam. We were lucky in that we were allocated a table near a window so we had a lovely view over the gardens.
Look, we were disappointed based our previous 2 times for Afternoon tea. We waited 40 mins. to be served, although the staff were polite. The absence of the savoury pastries was a letdown; they were on the menu the previous 2 times we were there. We accept that restaurants are doing it tough at present, but would have happy to pay extra for the same previous experience.
Beautiful spot surrounded by the lovely gardens of Coombe Estate. The dining area is lovely and plenty of space between tables and lovely big windows looking out to the Estate. Food was good, service was good although a bit slow at times and took them a while to come to our table when we arrived to give us the menus and some water. During the dining waiting staff were a little slow to refill water and check on us.
Pleasant venue, friendly staff, good food, interesting Nellie Melba stuff, surprisingly good wine
Had High Tea at Coombe. Nice selection of food and glass of bubbles which was topped up if you wanted it. Staff were very friendly and our waiter was very attentive. Nice setting for a relaxed meal.
Wine was exceptional, loved the food and the level of service
We always enjoy coming. The food and wine is sourced locally and always excellent, the staff attentive, the views wonderful; it's just a shame they are not open for dinner.
After being in lockdown for so long I was excited to find this little gem. A bright and friendly venue, greeted warmly at the door. I have had the pleasure of visiting this venue 3 times this year, twice for lunch and a high tea and each visit has been amazing. I will most certainly be returning.
Great food, ambience was quite special and it was very refreshing to be able to hold a conversation without shouting!
Quality food and service
From ease of booking to relaxed dining….highly recommend
Although it has has been some months since my wife and I visited Commbe (The Melba Estate) it hasn't lost its charm or food / service quality. Wether it be High Tea Lunch or Dinner it is always something special to dine there. I would definitely recommend it.
The quality of the food, the wine and the service was outstanding.
Most of the food was very good however our vegetables with our mains were so undercooked they were inedible. They said they'd bring replacements but they still hadn't arrived when we'd finished the meat. I was a bit disappointed we weren't offered any discount given it was half our main meal. The rest of the food was delicious and staff were very friendly.
The food drinks and service was amazing
Beautiful and elegant food, location and staff.
The entrées were average (pastry of onion tart was soggy, duck breast tough) the main was good and the desert good (peach melba average). The wine was very good.
We had lunch to celebrated my husband’s retirement .
We have eaten there many times and the experience is always outstanding.
The manager remembered us and we had champagne on the house to celebrate.
All staff were friendly and attentive the food was delicious and beautifully presented.
We look forward to eating there again!
Always a delight to return to Coombe. Superlative in every aspect
What an incredible local experience. High tea was fantastic. And catered to a variety of dietary requirements perfectly. Thank you.delicious.
Staff were friendly, helpful and made it a very pleasant experience. Food was very good, of high quality. Would have preferred one more finger sandwich per person in the high tea (minor point).
Great food, great wine
Gourmet class food, excellent wine selection and nice garden setting. But at $65 for a 2 course meal, would only consider again for a special occasion. Coombe caters to those looking for a fine dining experience and are unconcerned about the value proposition.
Amazing and delicious food. We were so full.
Visited for lunch to support the yarra valley after another lockdown. The staff were warm and appreciative and excellent communication. Would love to visit again when restrictions ease and could move about more freely.
Food was amazing. Service was amazing. Would highly recommend
The restaurant area is large and the view of the surrounding gardens is amazing.
The staff were friendly and helpful in selecting the wines to go with our food selection
The lamb shoulder for two was amazing as well as the peach Melba desert
What a beautiful experience we enjoyed celebrating our wedding anniversary luncheon at Coombe. The food, service and surrounds were all perfect!
This is a great venue for groups of different sizes.
The staff are well able to provide details of all meals, and do not rush taking orders.
The food quality has not changed over other visits and plating structure and color makes the food appealing before tasting.
It’s generally a great experience all round.
Finally got to see behind the hedge and was not disappointed; great food and the garden tour a must!
Very disappointed with the high tea.
No hot food for savouries, only white bread sandwich, mini cakes were average at best the macaroons tasted mass produced with NO filling and when our tea was brought, English & Chai the server didnt know which one was which. Not even a white tablecloth which is a minimum you would expect for high tea.
Very disappointed compared to other places for the price and would not go back or recommend.
Would of been better off trying the lunch for the money.
Exceptional staff and their attention to detail made my birthday a wonderful fine dining experience. Such a beautiful ambience at Coombe.
Excellent attention to us as customers. Warm engagement as we were taken to our table. Menu explained. Lovely surprise treats with our meal - it was our 40th. Anniversary. Pork was excellent and the Pear & Raddiccio salad a great accompaniment. Beef was beautiful but a little extra sauce would have helped. Potato was perfect. Peach Melba was excellent as a sweet but not as Escoffier created. Pecan was delicious. Beautiful day, surroundings and meal.
We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary with a lunch at Coombe Cottage, we were not disappointed. The staff were very attentive, just the right amount of friendly service. The timing between courses was perfect. Every dish was superb. The seating was very comfortable and well spaced between tables, so no overhearing other’s conversations. The delightful outlook onto the gardens, complimented the food. There was soft relaxing background music. We felt very special.
Delicious food and wine!
This is the best restaurant in the Yarra Valley. It has ambience, history and excellent food and wine served in a most friendly and professional manner. Would recommend to all locals and visitors to the area.
It was a wonderful experience to dine in this estate - the food was superb and the service impeccable.
Faultless , excellent food and beverages, attention to detail in service , made to genuinely feel welcome. Highly recommend for lunch or high tea , worth the trip.
Have been for lunch many timesaver the last few years, the food and wine are always of a high standard, we’ve not had one bad or less than exceptional meal. The service from entering the restaurant to leaving is always friendly and helpful.
An added bonus is hearing Dame Nellie Melba singing when you go to the loo 😀
