Cool River Cafe - Dallas Ratings and Reviews
Took customers to Cool River and had a great time. Wait staff was great, made good suggestions and everything was brought to the table right on time. Prices were a little on the high side but worth the money. The bar was a great place to meet and start the conversation before dinner. If I had to do it again, we’d just stay in the bar area and eat there. I will definitely be going back.
It was me and my girlfriends first time ever coming to this restaurant. I was disappointed in how the nights events unfolded. We were seated as soon as we came in. Our waiter was very friendly. I ordered a sweet tea and was brought a warm unsweetened tea without warning. Still was charged for the tea despite me stating I didn't want it. You would think for the price of the meals it would have been a nicer place. The noise level was so loud I couldn't hear my girlfriend speaking to me who was sitting right across from me! What's the point of going on a date here if you can't even hear the person your holding a conversation with. Then we ordered and our waiter made sure to tell us the prices of the specials but not that the side salads he offered didn't come with our meal. We made appetizers our meal and normally at other restaurants they will offer you a side since that is your meal without an additional cost. I felt like him leaving out the fact we were going to be charged $7 each for a side salad that they threw away despite our request to box it up was unacceptable. We got charged for something that we didn't even eat and for them to just throw away and ignore our request. We ordered calamari during the half price hours and when we asked to make sure it was half price our waiter informed us we had to be sitting at the bar and didn't offer to cancel it. Nowhere on the website did it say you had to be sitting at the bar. During our meal our waiter didn't offer to refill our drinks. One of the bus boys came up once we were waiting for our check to refill the drinks. We sat at our table for 30 mins after eating waiting for our waiter to come bring us our check. He had other tables right next to us and not once did he check on us once he was finished with them. We aren't the richest people but still expect to be treated like every other customer not just someone you assist when you feel like it.
Attempted to book several other restaurants for Sunday dinner after Cowboys game. However, settled on Cool River because they were the only one in the area with an opening between 6-9 PM.... found out the hard way WHY!
Party of 7 for business meal and drinks. Understaffed even though the restaurant was only 1/3 full which made the entire experience a negative because someone was always waiting on a drink or other request. Food was mediocre at best. Server and manager seemed to be making excuses and apologizing to everyone.
Bad experience, will not return.
We scheduled a company dinner here and our numbers kept shifting. They were very accommodating even when our list shrank to just 3 people. The food and service were excellent!! It is pretty loud when the restaurant gets busy (and it was) but as small as our group was it was fine. A larger group would be hard to hear unless you booked a more private area.
From the time we were seated, took about 20 minutes for server to greet us and take our drink order, and another 10-15 minutes to bring the. In excusable. Salads were fine. When entrees were served, our waiter asked if we needed anything else, and left. Our friend commented that the prime rib was so tough, it was hard to cut, and impossible to chew. We waited for another 10 minutes and the waiter never came by to see how the food was. A manage saw one in our party not eating and we explained why. He promptly asked our friend to order something else, and took the order to the kitchen. When the manager brought the filet out 15 minutes later, the rest of us were done eating. The manager comped the filet. And when we were completely done, the waiter showed up to ask how everything was. Needless to say, he was oblivious to the fact that the prime rib was sent back...and equally oblivious to the fact that our cocktail glasses had been empty since the salad course.
I will NEVER talk guests there again! What a complete disappointment it was!
The margaritas are terrible. The service was very slow even when they did not appear to be busy. The steaks we ordered were pretty good but they were over-cooked and not worth the high price. There are many other places in the area with better food for the cost. Would not recommend.
I can't say enough good things about Cool River. When you walk in the door, the decor is stunning. The bar is beautiful. The staff are welcoming and very attentive. The bar with its extensive selection of selections and brews is very satisfying. And the food... wow, the food. If you're a foodie, this place is a must. We had the Ahi Tartare as an appetizer and I could have eaten two of them by myself. Wonderful layers of tuna, apple slaw, avocado, and jalapeno. It was clean, sweet, creamy, crunchy, and spicy. Served with fried wontons, it was to die for. For dinner I had the marvelous crab cakes with the house-made cocktail sauce. Every bite was relished. I look forward to going back again one day soon!
We went to the Café Sunday evening and the whole establishment was empty of ANY customers. This being the case you would not expect any problems with service. We sat in the bar area and were the only customers at a table,a few at the bar. We literally had to hunt down someone to wait on us and that was the order of the evening. Manager stopped by for feedback, proceeded to tell us the story of his life, we told him we were unhappy with the whole experience. Nothing changed, service continued to be bad. Servers were in a corner having conversations and could care less. Second visit for me and I wanted to give them a chance since the first time was disappointing also. Never going back.
Can't beat the filet at the river. Add the mac & cheese on the side, u gotta winner. Great wine list to boot. Was a lil disappointed no live music during the summer, but still an exceptional meal.. just much quieter for a Sat nite. Can chill in the cigar room after meal w/ a great cigar
It was my birthday and my son birthday so we go here for the first time. We order the Sharable Starters- Ahi Tuna Tartare was awesome, my son has 10 oz Flat Iron Steak and my daughter has 10 oz Hickory Smoked Prime Rib and they both was delicious , my sister has 12 oz Bone In Pork Chop it was okay , my disappointment entree was the Neuske's Bacon Wrapped Gulf Shrimp when it first come out was the shrimp overcook and dry. I mention it to the waiter and couple minute later the manager have brought out another plate, and this time the shrimp was cook in right temperature. At the end the desserts of Cool River 5 Layer Chocolate Cake and Texas Pecan Bread Pudding was excellent, a complimentary from the restaurant for both of our birthday celebration. Which have make up for my little disappointment earlier.
Five friends that used to work nearby the restaurant gathered for our monthly luncheon. We hadn't been to Cool River in many years. We were very pleased with the service and the food was excellent. Our reservation was 11:30 and the longer we stayed the noisier it got. High noise levels is a big problem in so many restaurants now. Overall we were please and have put Cool River on our list of places to return in the future.
