Cool River Cafe - Dallas Ratings and Reviews
My wife and I went to Cool River Cafe for Valentines day. They had a select menu but let me tell you, this place was incredible.
Our server "Foster" (I think his first name is Chris, but they have several that work there) was spot on, even though he had plenty of tables he treated us like we were his only one. He made the night extra special for us and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great experience.
The manager, David Coakley, also came by to ensure everything was going well. He spent some time talking with us and it's little things like this that really make you want to come back.
Between the food, atmosphere, and service.. we certainly will be coming back. Great job to the entire staff at Cool River Cafe, and thank you to Foster and David!
We celebrated an early Valentines this year. Cool River had a special menu which was fabulous. Salad, lobster, steak, veggies, and a shared dessert. Our waiters, Chris and Sadie were wonderful, giving us time between each course to thoroughly enjoy our meal. I highly recommend Cool River for any special occasion.
Lunch meeting with a client. Service was just ok. bounced back and forth between a couple of waiters with no explanation as to who was our main person. Salad itself was good, but the steak with it was cooked improperly and had no taste at all. One of the worst steaks I have had here in Texas so far. For that price, should be much better than that for a place that is touting quality.
After a bit of a rough start (the hostess informed us that we would have to wait when we arrived at our reserved time, but the manager got that straightened out), we couldn't have asked for a better dining experience. The service was very attentive and engaging, the food was excellent and the atmosphere was delightful. We'll definitely return and, next time, we'll try the manager's suggestion and sit in the bar area - just to give it a try!
Five stars for David and his team in the dining room . This was a perfect evening for my friend and I to relax. From cosmos to our shared meal of the surf & turf served oscar style with the scalloped potatoes and scallops, we then shared the most delicious bread pudding with Maker's Mark sauce. What took the evening over the top was not the perfection of the taste of our meal, but the impeccable service we received from every single person. Will definitely be going back for more!
just ok. It had been years since I have been (before they removed the smoking in the bar) and I was interested in trying it again, since we just moved to Las Colinas a few months ago. However the entire experience just left me, in a word, 'flat'.
We sat in a booth at the bar because there were a few large parties in the dining room and they were VERY loud. Our server was young and tried very hard, but was just not great. The martini's came out warm (and I only attache this to her because I'm pretty sure she forgot to place the order so they rushed them out). And several times food came to the table and we were without silverware and had to wait for someone else to bring it to the table. Again- she was sweet, but just not polished.
The food was just.... blah. The Ahi Tuna starter was fine. The tuna was WAY too thick (almost like a thin steak) and it was tough. The slaw was good, but the sauce that it needed to pull it all together was mostly absent under the mound of slaw.
And the ribs were tough and overcooked. Only 1 of the 3 'trios' of ribs were really any good.
Not sure I will rush back - and if I do, I'll stay clear of the tuna and ribs.
I went for my birthday. All I wanted was a nice bottle of wine & some lamb. There was lamb on the online menu. Unfortunately, I found out the hard way that Cool River was no longer even serving lamb. That was disappointing, but the wine was not. Overall it's an ok place to have a nice dinner.
Noted it was our anniversary (49 yrs) with our reservation. This was not even mentioned.
3 at our table ordered the tenderloin filet. 2 were thick and wonderful.
Mine was 1\2 inch thick at best and over cooked- well beyond the rare+ as I ordered.
The replacement had a layer of fat film around the edge.
Will keep with our favorites for steak - Pappas Bros and Bobs.
Good wine value. Great salad and dessert.
My husband and I met some old friends here while they were in Irving on business. We drove from Fort Worth to meet them at Cool River. This place was amazing! The service was superb, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was unmatched. We couldn’t get over what an excellent time we had. This is a place fit for all. Thank you Cool River Cafe. Cheers to a prosperous 2018!
We are at cool river before a play in Dallas. There were seven of us in our party. The waiter told us the menu had been re-vamped with a celebrity chef assisting in flavors and recipes. We were highly disappointed. The steaks were tasteless and tough. I ordered creamed corn. This was literally frozen corn heated in cream. The waiter was pretty good but not anything to write about. All in all, Texas Roadhouse is better than this place.
I met my daughter/boy friend on a recent business trip to Dallas. First the service, it was attentive but not over bearing, the waiter knew the wine list and most important, friendly. Second, the food stayed consistently outstanding from my days of living in DFW. The steak was cooked to the requested temperature and tender. The mushroom and mac sides were tasty.
Kudos to the waiter and manager. I ran late to catch my flight home and left my credit card at the table. The waiter did attempt to catch us but we were gone. The manager kindly held the card until my daughter could return to pick it up two days later. THANK YOU BOTH!
When I arrived, the hostess explained that the restaurant had become busy, so they had cancelled my reservation. That's the whole point of a reservation, right?
Were told we could be seated in the bar or wait an hour. We opted to be seated in the bar. We waited and waited and waited for them to put a table together in the bar. After 10 minutes, they seated us in the main dining area. That's good, but I would have rather been seated immediately in the bar.
The waitress met us immediately, brought our drinks then took our order. We waited, and waited and waited. After 30 minutes, the waitress brought bread.
We waited, and waited, and waited. After 30 more minutes, the manager stopped by to let us know that our order had been placed behind a large private dining room's order, so it had taken longer than expected to get ours ready. He offered to pay for our lunch.
Ten minutes later - a full 90-minutes after our reservation, we were served. We gulped down our food and left.
Nice of the manager to pro-actively comp the meal. Not satisfied with the greeting experience or the wait for a table.
Server introduced himself and two other people who would be helping with our party of 7 people. The dining area was loud and extremely cramped. Server took our drink order and after 30 minutes we had to flag him down to remind him we still did not have drinks. Salads came out and were served wrong. When dinner was served, the server did not ask if the steaks were cooked to order. As it turns out, they weren't and we had to send one order back. They were very responsive to correcting the undercooked food and this time he did make sure it was cooked to order. The Salmon was overcooked and dry. By the way, we were never helped by the other two servers. For the price, the service and food should have been better.
