I have never missed Chow more. Cook Shoppe was a huge disappointment. Looking for a last minute brunch reservation, we stumbled on to Cook Shoppe. A cute website and yummy sounding menu, and plenty of open tables. Now we know why. Our experience started with an awkward and painfully slow seating process. Once at our seats we noticed that 4 tables had all been sat at once, a single server ran around looking dazed and confused. We ordered the monkey bread to snack on while waiting for breakfast. We were told it came with roasted apples, when it arrived it was covered in bananas and dry as a bone. We sent it back. It was replaced by a only slightly better ginger bread, moistened by a healthy dollop of whipped cream. Next our server, who took our order without writing it down, came back 10 minutes later to ask us what we had ordered again. When the food did arrive, it was just bad. Stale bread under avocado and a mixed green salad so over salted it was inedible. The chorizo burrito was ok, but also came with the over salted greens. All and all, it was awful. I give it six months. Bring back Chow!

I have been there twice now. Each time all the food was excellent but the service was lacking. The servers were all very nice and friendly but the would tend to disappear too often. Took 20 minutes to get our first glass of wine. Maybe they need to add to staff. If they ramp up the service I would give them 5 stars.

We arrived 15 mins prior to our reservation, we decided to have a drink at the bar and take in the atmosphere.

Bar - The bar chairs are very comfortable, the bartender was very kind and genuine with everyone at the bar. The drinks were delicious, the favorite being the Lavender Lemonade.

Table Service - Our table was quickly made ready, the server was able to get our drinks transferred from the bar to our table, so there was not the awkward shuffle of closing at one place to open again at another.
We started with the Edamame Dumplings, something we had seen on yelp as wells as other sites and were happy that they lived up to the hype.

Entrees were:

Lasagna - Big portion, delicious sauce, nice and cheesy and comes with a 6oz meatball.
Chicken Palliard - Chicken was seasoned incredibly well, the mixed greens on top were fresh and complemented the chicken perfectly.

Dessert:

Slice of Pride Cake - More for the fun of it, but also for the taste of it! The frosting was creamy and sweet in all the right ways, the cake was fluffy and vivid with the colors of the rainbow.

A successful dinner, so happy this popped up on our OpenTable radar and will definitely be going back.

Food was creative and fun, matched with delicious and full of temptation!
The atmosphere is well crafted and comfortable making it hard to leave.
Staff was friendly, greeted us and bid us ado when we left.
I was skeptical to go as I was not a fan of the previous establishment, but I was told by staff this is a completely different company and owners and it thankfully shows! Much success to you and you will see me soon!

Busy for a Tuesday night and happy we had a reservation!
I had the potato crusted salmon, a glass of the Rose and the blueberry tart. Everything was beautifully presented, the food was just as tasty as it looked and the blueberry tart was delicious and vegan!
The space itself is beautiful, the server was attentive and very informative and it was just simply a pleasurable experience.

What a pleasure to finally have something in the neighborhood worthy of going to!
The food was good, ingredients were clearly fresh and the server was kind and patient with our dietary restrictions. A good experience for a neighborhood who's restaurants are meh, this place was anything but meh, will definitely recommend and be going again!

Very hip and chic for a Brunch. Good size portions and a friendly staff. We were sat in the back patio outside the restaurant absolutely beautiful and the perfect spot to sip mimosas and relax all day. Had the Castro scramble with guac and loved it.

The bloody Mary's are awesome ... Spicy and gets you started for the day and the standard mimosas were perfect!

Great art deco feel

Great place, excellent service, delicious food with rather generous portions.
The vibe is contemporary modern in a non garish way which is to say that it is a dressed up and polished vibe.

But let's talk more about the food?

The Beef Bourguignon: I would have to say that all of the accolades are well earned. Every bite was absolute comfort food warm and tender. Every item on the dish was done well and belonged with each other.

The Lamb Pasta: Very tender and delicious, thick cut pasts that was perfectly cooked.

Sole: This was a really good dish. Huge fillet of perfectly cooked buttery sole with light and delicious quinoa and artichokes.

Definitely a place that I would like to eat at again

Popular spot just off of Market Street in the Castro. I Highly recommend reservations! They have a little bit of everything on the menu, so everyone in your party should find something that makes them happy. Reasonable price point and a massive selection of beer and a decent selection of wine. Friendly service and they moved us to the patio with no rebuttal at all.

We split the steamed mussels and potstickers for apps. Loved them both. I went with the Shoppe burger and fries as my main course. Comes with lettuce, tomato, red onions, pickles. You can add avocado, bacon, egg and more. I added bacon - the best food on this earth. HUGE burger. Messy, but delicious!

I really love the food here. The staff were nice and the place looks great inside. This time we tried a bunch of small plates and my favorites were the heirloom quinoa salad, the risotto croquettes and the lettuce cups.

All the items on the menu sounded so good. Unfortunately they were really just marginally good. The burgers were good. Everything else lacked flavor and were boring. I hate writing a review like this. The wait staff were disorganized. Thanks to a senior gentleman at the bar that was filling in the holes, he really saved the day. They really need to work out bugs and spice things up a little. The atmosphere was outstanding. But.....

Attended Saturday brunch. Service was inattentive, waiter paid no attention to our table (3 times he walked by saying he’d be back to take our order) and didn’t notice that only 3 of 4 entrees had been delivered, after finally being found and flagged down 10 mins. later, said it was a system order in the kitchen, which looked to be affecting every table, yet staff didn’t seem to do anything as a work around. The late entree was comped, which was nice. Wait staff seemed to spend most of their time talking to each other by the kitchen rather than checking tables. Food was highly disappointing, salad was soggy to the point of rotting, couldn’t detect any dressing, everything was under-salted.

Brunch {green omelette, spinach and goats cheese omelette) was nice. Service was disorganized - not clear who the greeter was, the server seemed nervous and pressed our table and other tables to have “alcoholic drinks”. Instead we had hot drinks, which took ages to arrive. Likewise, took ages for the check. It needs someone sharp and observant front of house but should otherwise do well.

I love a place that has several bubbles by the glass! We all really enjoyed ourselves here our monthly girls night out (there were 15 of us and what a great time we had at The Cook Shoppe! They sat us in the patio area and I honestly cant believe that beautiful jungle of a room is in San Francisco, I am jealous and want to live in there!

Food, exceptional we shared nearly one of every appetizer and everything was lovely and my entree of pasta carbonara was a dream.

Can't wait to be back!

Confirmed reservation for outdoor seating, unfortunately sat inside next to the kitchen and it was very hot. The table for a big party did bottomless mimosas, only received 2 pitchers at a time the time that it took for us to receive took very long, 95% orange juice, 5% champagne. The service from the waiter was good, it was just the manager being too controlling not in a positive way.

My fiancee and I came here to celebrate, and it definitely is a meal worthy of that! The space is beautifully designed. After heading in from busy Market street, you are pleasantly surprised by the bright, open, and warm dining room. Our waiter was upbeat and was very attentive us.

We got the Brussels sprouts, the carbonara, salmon, a side of quinoa, and the green tea beignets.

I'm in love with the Brussels sprouts! I would eat this every day if I could. If you like Brussels sprouts, you should try this because it's great and you'll never find another preparation like this.

The carbonara and salmon were both perfectly cooked. I loved the flavors of the salmon, combined with the buttery lemon sauce it was filling and divine. My fiancee said the carbonara was the best she's ever had. I would say you get more food with the pasta, but both are great dishes. By this point we were full. The quinoa is great, a good amount, and is served with little crispy shavings which taste like chips.

The beignets are awesome! Just get them.

Classic American menu to serve all appetites. Place has outdoor and indoor seating with a front bar that is a first come first serve seating.

The bar selection is excellent.

Service if fast (we ordered and served within 10 minutes) and portions are generous.

I loved this place. A little warm in the June heat, but great atmosphere and place to hang out.

I came with a small group, so we ordered a variety of items on the menu. I had an easy time finding what would work for me, being gluten and lactose intolerant. The server did help me get what I needed.

Food was very good. The people at the table loved the Acme bread.

I had the Rustica pasta. And I ate every last bit of it.

For desserts the chocolate churro and popcorn cake were mind blowing good.

Ate at Cook Shoppe on Sunday night. Been meaning to go for a while and it lived up to expectations. The service was excellent, all the waiters introduced themselves when we sat down, they filled water consistently, and didn't rush us for the table.

The food was delicious! We ordered: Edamame dumplings and Lettuce cups to start. Both were perfect!

For entrees I got the Sole. It was good, the presentation was great, it came with a delicious quinoa side.

Our waiter told us his favorite dish is the Lasagna, and I saw another table ordering it, and it looked really good. When I go back, I'm going to get the Lasagna. My girlfriend got the Salmon, and she loved it!

Overall everything was very good. Highly recommended. Overall a solid restaurant, decent value for the money, and perfect atmosphere. I will definitely be back!

We were dining with old friends whom we hadn't seen in ages, so we talked and talked for a couple of hours. The server Christopher was excellent, filling water glasses, offering to refill coffee, and bringing extra hot water for tea. Very fine service! Dinner was lovely, delightful crab chowder and a beautiful goat cheese stuffed chicken. Later, when my husband paid the bill with a USAA credit card, the staff realized he had been in the military service and presented a "thank you" of wonderful macarons on a plate!

My girlfriend and I came in for dinner last night and had a very good meal. Whoever designed this place really knows how to make their customers feel comfortable. I honestly felt as if I was sitting on a covered veranda down south, it's just so warm and inviting. The food and service match as well, the cauliflower mac and cheese is delicious and was a great and unexpected gluten free option. If you don't have at least one refresher beverage while here you're doing yourself a great disservice they are that good!
