Place is permanently closed & it still let us make a reservation. It shouldn’t do that if it’s shut down
The restaurant went out of business the day before our reservation. We showed up for reservation and found out they were closed.....no notice in advance of their closing
Great experience all around! Will definitely be back.
Our experience at Cook Shoppe was wonderful, beginning with a friendly greeting and instant seating. Our waiter was very attentive and friendly and the service was impeccable. We ordered quickly and the food was served in a timely manner.
The food. Oh my! Absolutely delicious! We started with cauliflower and green bean appetizer which was friend to perfection. My mother had the corn chowder for starters and we all tasted the heavenly bowl. It was so creamy and flavorful. My mom sent her compliments to the chef, who appeared and chatted with us for several minutes. So friendly, so talented! He even shared his recipe with my mother! Very personable! The chicken was perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious according to two of my friend who were with us. My mom and I had the burger, which was so juicy and flavorful. The pomme frittes were perfectly seasoned and crispy. We all enjoyed our meal so much and hope to return as SOON AS POSSIBLE!
We LOVED our late dinner at Cook Shoppe. Lobster gnocchi and pork belly were the stand outs, and thoroughly enjoyed in a beautifully ambient atmosphere. Service was incredibly, knowledgeable and friendly, some of the best I have had in this city. Can't WAIT to come back.
I had to update this and give this place a 5 star rating. I brought one of my friends to celebrate her birthday and Cook Shoppe delivered. We were wowed with the impeccable service received and the food of course is still on point!
I hadn't visited in over 2 months, but damn, I must come back and celebrate occasions here again! I made my reservation for 9pm. I know pretty late for dinner, but the hosts were super sweet and the restaurant was still busy.
We ordered the grilled octopus which was awesooome! The avocado dish was surprisingly good! It's gotta be the sauce that was paired with it!
Entree we got the grilled skirt steak with mash potato bone marrow. Yummmy!
And to top everything off, we had the ever so delicious creme brulee cheesecake dessert. Sooo good! It was perfect for us to share! Since we celebrated her birthday, the dessert cake with a sparkler and all. Amazing touch and I must add that the gentleman who seated us was so mindful to ask if we were celebrating an occasion!
What made this truly a 5 star are the hard workers who are at their best in providing amazing service. From the beginning to the end. Our server was great. She was on top of things from the beginning and was soooo sweet and sooo kind in explaining the dishes and really made us feel welcomed. She had our backs!! We had some food allergies and restrictions and she made us feel safe to dine! 10/10. Above and beyond! I didn't catch her name at the beginning when she intro herself, shout out to her for one of the best experiences in sf!
I will be back! :)
This was one of the worst brunches we have had in a long time! The decor is very nice but that’s about it. The noise level was ridiculous. They actually had a Drag Queen ‘performing’ on a microphone, blasting through the restaurant. We had to move to the patio...past the performer who shouted through the restaurant ‘if you want to see the show, don’t go to the patio!’ Alcoholic drinks are on the webpage menu but we were told, once seated, that they still don’t have their liquor license. The food was just bad, really bad; greasy and bland. How this place is surviving is beyond us.
We went for the Drag Brunch, which was a lot of fun. Especially Katya Smirnoff-Sky and Kylie Minono! Food was delicious along with friendly service.
The patio is gorgeous. The food is fabulous. The service is wonderful. I would highly recommend this restaurant. A lovely Sunday brunch and a great value.
The food was awful. Service was slow.
Renegotiating liquor license? What does that mean?!? That should be listed on Opentable. And $4 each for soda water when you don’t have a liquor license? Especially after telling us that we had a choice of Voss or tap soda water!!!
I would recommend this spot once it has a liquor license. I made a reservation and no one called to tell m that they did not have a liquor license. It had been suspended while they are applying for a full liquor license. It was only wine & beer prior from what I understand. The food was good but why not tell clients about the license before they show up to a Friday night dinner? That was kind of annoying. Also, we were seated at the very back of the restaurant next to the open door of the kitchen that was loud and hot. I could understand this if the restaurant had a lot of tables reserved but the place was empty during our whole meal and when we left. The front of the restaurant is much more pleasant so I am not sure why they hid us in the back.
We all did like the food, but the other things that happened were weird and unnecessary. I will give them another go since the food was good.
The salmon was delicious.
A friend and I were going to see a show nearby and when discussing pre-theater dinner, I immediately suggested Cook Shoppe. I ordered the rosemary refresher it was dangerously delicious and very refreshing.
To eat, we each ordered a little gem salad and cup of chicken pesto soup, as well as the grilled octopus. As was the case with my other visits here, everything was incredible. The asparagus was perfectly cooked and the flavors of the dish, including creme fraiche and pistachios, all balanced to make lovely bites throughout.
Service was great and since they knew we were going to a show, ensured that we weren't rushed but still on time.
We stopped in after the Symphony. Had an amazing hamachi crudo, beet and fennel salad, and the octopus. Each had their own style with bold flavors all around. The patio is truly an escape from the city. Would recommend.
We came here for dinner to celebrate my new job. We made reservations a week before. We arrived 10 minutes early for our reservations and was seated promptly. The restaurant is about medium sized and well decorated although the tables are a bit close together.
The sole piccata is great and my husband highly recommends the pork chop.
Did not disappoint.
Wanted to take some friends out to a nice dinner, this was the perfect spot.
From the minute you get there the vibe is fun and energetic. Great music playing and a busy yet very efficient bar. Didn't have to wait very long at all to get our drinks and they were fantastic.
Once our table is ready we were all excited to find an item on the menu that called out to us. We decided we would share everything family style and that worked out perfectly. The waiter guided us through a few recommendations and off we went.
There wasn't a single item that we didn't love. The pacing was perfect and the flavors were fantastic. The nice part about being there with a party of six is that we got to try a lot of different things.
I really enjoy the cook shoppe, love love love the stunning patio and the comfy seating. They brought back the chicken pesto soup for summer, it reminds me of something you get in France, so simple and fresh. The butter poached sole with artichokes is delicious.
Still craving their grilled octopus and summer bouillabaisse' with cod, lobster, and shrimp, delicious. Also tried the 'green salad' which had very sweet strawberries and sugared nuts Excellent(!!!!) The staff here are all attentive, extremely hard working, and personable. Nothing here to dislike!
Outstanding meal and service!
- grilled octopus
- poke taco
- the pork chop
The decore is totally cute and the managers were so nice!
Paella rice balls appetizers had no taste of Paella; they were bland. The Kale salad was interesting, but the kale leaves were too large and very tough; baby kale would have been more appropriate. Dinner entrees a mixed bag: Sole special was tasty, though did not come with advertised side (they used quinoa instead of cous cous) - waiter didn’t inform us of switch until he put the orate in front of us and asked if it was ok. The filet mignon buccatini tasted nice, but the meat was way over cooked and the advertised buccatini was simply spaghetti - major faux pasta. The pork ragout pasta was okay but no standout. Overall, the service was uneven and not polished. We will give Cooke Shoppe another chance in a couple months to see if they work out all the kinks. One more comment: the bench seats are covered in off-white fabric - horrible choice; they were already filthy and smelled of the nearby open kitchen.
still working out the kinks. lots of potential, but very new
Well...it is just getting settled after opening, so I understand that they have some challenges (no liquor license, service is confused and rushed going from one end of the room to the other like chickens w no head.
There was a drag queen show on the day we were. While I LOVE drag queen shows, it totally disrupted the atmosphere with the loud noise, the show and motion. I would suggest that you make that very public on Open table before we book a table.
the food was delicious !! the decor is beautiful. it has everything it needs to succeed....just get the service better coordinated and trained and off you go!
Good food, friendly staff, cool decor and price right.
Beautiful restaurant but service wasn’t great and the food wasn’t anything I would go back for.
The ambiance was very nice and the waitstaff were attentive. The menu was a bit all over the place and the two dishes I ordered were inedible. The cauliflower soup was tasteless and SUPER thick to the point that it was more like a dip. The paella salad had a very acidic flavor that was not appealing with the fish. My daughter had the Mac and cheese. The pasta was undercooked and the cheese not fully melted. It was also flavorless. My husband had the steak, which he said was ok, not bad.
I would NOT recommend this place. Too bad since the waitstaff was so nice and the atmosphere was decent. We won’t be going back.
First, their liquor license was not available on the date of our reservation, due to an application issue apparently. That would not have been a problem at all, except I wasn’t notified until arriving at the restaurant.
They had been open all day for brunch, so it was known that there were no alcohol sales and notifications to reservations could have been made. When I mentioned this to the host, a server and the bartender standing nearby immediately clapped back at me with, “there are plenty of places to get alcohol around here”. That clearly wasn’t the point of my suggestion.
The dining experience was mediocre at best. Our server, different than the one mentioned above was obviously new and should not have been given an 8 top. He’s length of time between checking in on the table, opening the bottles that we had purchased elsewhere, and over table service was too long. We were given dirty champagne flutes, had no share plates when starters arrived, the list went on.
When we were ready to order mains, we hadn’t seen our server in a while, so we asked someone for assistance and we were met with, “I’m not your waiting”, he then proceeded to yell across the table to get the attention of our server from inside the kitchen.
At that point, I just began to laugh at the pure comedy of it all. Was this real life? Were we actually paying for this experience? The sad truth was it was and we were.
The one glimpse of hope were a couple of dishes delivered by the chef himself and the delightful anecdotes and stories we got from conversation with him.
This place has too great a space and location to not be good. I hope they take the feedback as it is intended, to coach and be better, so that they can truly meet the potential.
A nightmare of an experience from beginning to end.
Cook Shoppe has a lot of issues to work out. The food is underwhelming but overpriced, much more in line with a higher-end environment than the neighborhood eatery this actually is. For example, the simply-OK burger is $19 compared to the delicious burger at nearby Starbelly, which costs $15. A friend ordered the roast chicken and it was undercooked; some places were red and slightly bloody. The night we were there, the restaurant wasn’t serving any alcohol at all, though they offered to let us bring in our own without a corkage fee and the problem should be resolved soon (or already has been). The menu didn’t always reflect reality, either. The burger was supposed to come with french fries, according to the menu but instead was served with house-made potato chips. The staff was friendly, professional, and understanding, however. Because of our negative experience, they only charged us for one of the three meals we ordered, which was fair, because only one of the three entrees was eaten beyond a few bites. They also gave us a free dessert, the delicious creme brûlée cheesecake. All told, all three of us agreed we won’t be back because we don’t want to pay their prices when much better, more reliable dining is closeby for less money.
We both came to Chow, which was in that location for many years, quite often. We were glad to find a beautiful patio with great servers. They weren’t able to serve alcohol that day for some reason, but that didn’t bother us too much. The prices were a little high for what we got, but the overall quality of the food was very good. Great food, great service.
Words cannot describe how much I love Cook Shoppe and the special place it holds for my BF and I. If you're lucky enough to score a reservation, make sure you take full advantage of it!
Cook Shoppe makes food well and has exceptional service. Everything on their menu is superb and without fail, will tantalized your taste buds.
I have eaten at so many places. But trust me when I say. Cook Shoppe is it. This is your place to go for a great meal. We were in the area so we decided to try it since it was on my bookmark. I was so thankful that I came and will definitely be back on a special occasion. I think for my bday
So we got the steak and bone marrow plate. It was amazinnggggg.
One of the best dinners I've had in a long time. Casual vibe but great service. We were a party of 5. Ordered the oysters, tuna poke, octopus, pork chops and wood oven chicken. ALL of it was good, everyone was super happy with the food even the sides and garnishes were done beautifully. We ordered 3 desserts-and all SO good. Went work executives and everyone left very pleasedly and stuffed! Perfect amount of food.
Exceptional meal, was very worth the wait. Every dish is amazing but the Coconut Curry Crab with house-made sourdough crisps was hands down my favorite. Can't wait to go back to try the rest of the menu!
The food, the service were beyond my expectation. It's more than great. We had our dinner at the bar, the bartender Billy made us great cocktails with his own creation, and his energy is so impressive. He is so kind and friendly, and he really knows well of his stuff.
Our night out at Cook Shoppe is one of the best nights of dining out on our trip to San Francisco.
What a stylish and delicious new addition to the neighborhood!
Very hot on the patio and no fans
Wet for Sunday brunch and it was awesome! A good variety of dishes to choose from (avocado toast, fried chicken and waffles, monte Cristo sandwich, egg scrambles, croque monsieur). Nice selection of add ons too - pastries, fruit, bacon, etc... Multiple variations of mimosas too! And an option for bottomless mimosas as well. And the best part was the entertainment! They just debuted a drag show from 11a-1p on Sundays! So much fun. :-)
Was expecting a nice relaxing Sunday brunch. Little did I know I was walking into a drag brunch. Nothing against drag but the music was really loud making it impossible to have a conversation. The food was fine and the service excellent. Daniel. Will go back but not on a Sunday afternoon.
Food and service was fantastic! We had no idea there was a show and we we LOVED it! So fun and such a surprise. We definitely would go there again and recommend The Cook Shoppe
