We were highly recommended to this restaurant and we had read a lot about the chef. The food was very disappointing. The white fish with green sauce was dry. The tuna loin was a good quality but preparation was ordinary. The cerviche was good but not nearly as good as in peru. There was not a lot of fish choices on the menu. Maybe this was good for mexico...but not for new york city, paris, or lima.

One of the most delightful restaurant experiences in a city full of great food! Everyone, including the staff, seems happy to be there. The food is so fresh and artfully prepared. We tried the ceviche of the day and one of the special salads with cucumbers and fava beans. The seasonings were perfectly balanced and unlike anything I would be able to prepare at home. I've had the grilled fish with red and green sauces before, and found it to be just as amazing as I remembered. We got the fig tart and my friend swore it was the best dessert she had ever tasted--crunchy crust, creamy custard and tangy fig, all perfectly complementing each other. We sampled several mescals with great guidance from our very personable waiter. An unforgettable meal!

It was a restaurant I had been wanting to try since seeing on Netflix. I ordered oysters, they were warm, so sent them back. I did not want to risk getting sick. The fish Contramar, was very well cooked and seasoned. The tuna sashimi was melt in your mouth good.

Contramar! Food was as always. The only thing that bothered me this time was that the waiter kept coming around waiting for us and made us feel rushed. Aside from that always a great meal.

The food at Contramar was amazing. We arrived 30 minutes early and they sat us immediately. The tuna tostadas were really good. The aguaschiles were amazing but they are spicy!

My wife and I ordered 3 different appetizers and split an entrée. We had tuna tostadas, crab tostadas, soft-shell crab tacos, and the restaurant specialty whole fish with half adobo / half parsley seasoning. Everything was delicious, but the tuna tostadas were HEAVENLY. They were without a doubt the best tuna we have ever eaten, and we have had some good tuna. The service of our waiter Juan Luis was exceptional, as was the rest of the wait staff. I asked him how he could sleep at night knowing he had ruined people for ever settling for less again. He said he could. We will definitely be back on future trips to Mexico City.

I had heard that Contramar was THE place to go in CMDX. Disappointed to say that it was actually the worst meal we had! Not to say that it was bad, but the other meals we had were so amazing. Contramar was okay, but wouldn't necessarily recommend as a place you have to check out

The food at Contramar was excellent. We had very good tuna tostados, the shrimp salad, and the whole fish. All was very good, particularly for a restaurant of the size and volume of this one. It is large, noisy and not the most relaxing environment. It is worth going to and experiencing.

Sat us beside the open door on the coldest day of winter. Asked to move tables multiple times, including immediately after sitting down, but was ignored and rushed through dinner instead. All of our food was stone cold within a few minutes. Wind was literally blowing through my hair. After they cleared our (half-finished) plates our waiter came back to offer us a new table, I guess wanting us to order more even though we didn’t even finish what we ordered to begin with. Total tourist trap, they just want to flip tables as fast as possible. Bill came out to about $100CAD for two dishes and water. Save your money and go somewhere else.

This was our first time dining at Contramar but it won't be the last. We enjoyed the atmosphere and loved the food, particularly the tuna tostadas, fish tacos "al pastor," Verde salad and whole fish. The shrimp tacos were good but not Wow! like the fish ones. The servers were attentive and helpful. And the price was more than reasonable. We'll definitely be back!

A delightful and delicious experience! Contramar is not a restaurant that disappoints in the face of its high profile. The food was amazing--incredibly fresh, flavorful and not fussy. The service was outstanding. It was our last meal in Mexico and the best! I wish I lived close so I could return again and again and try everything on the menu. If you are going to CDMX, don't miss the chance to eat here.

The servers and other associates at Contramar are the key to their appeal. Our server, Ramone, who has worked there for years, brings so much spirit and enthusiasm to the table that you can’t help follow along. The food, of course, is wonderfully prepared — both simple and sophisticated.
