   Although we have been to the south side location and were satisfied, the downtown location left us disappointed. Even though there were lots of tables available we were seated directly across from a 4 piece band, making conversation impossible. The soup appetizers were good however the salad appetizer didn’t arrive until after the meal. The schnitzel was good but the mashed potatoes were inedible, they tasted like instant potatoes from a package. We did not have dessert. It is unlikely that we will return to Continental Treat.

   Dear Jody Thank you for your feedback. While we’re pleased you enjoyed our south side location, we’re sorry your downtown visit didn’t meet expectations. We’re proud to feature international jazz and blues star Gary Martin, whose 60s-style performances create a lively atmosphere. That said, we wish you had let us know you preferred a quieter table—we would’ve gladly moved you. We’re happy you enjoyed the soup and schnitzel, and we apologize for the late salad and mashed potatoes. For clarity, our potatoes are made fresh in the French style with real cream and butter.    The CT kitchen is fantastic. The food was great, as usual. The welcome was warm as usual. The maitre d is a good man. We had a new waitress (I think) so the service was slow and the level of attention was insufficient, and there were several time consuming mistakes. Service, in our experience, is usually much better.

   We had a truly beautiful evening at Continental Treat on Jasper Avenue. It was myself, my mom, and my daughter—three generations coming together to quietly celebrate what would have been my parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. Though my father has passed, the evening was full of warmth, connection, and joy. From the first bite to the last, the food was exceptional. The pierogies were soft and flavorful, the dill pickle soup was uniquely rich and tangy, and the schnitzel and Beatzel were cooked to perfection. For dessert, we shared tiramisu and a chocolate caramel creation—both elegant and indulgent. Every dish felt like it had been made with love. A standout for us was the gluten-free menu. My daughter has celiac disease, and it meant so much to have her included in the full experience without fear or compromise. Every dish on the extensive menu was gluten-free and delicious, with no second-guessing or substitutions required. That alone made the evening unforgettable. The atmosphere is romantic, charming, and welcoming for all ages. We laughed, remembered, and shared a truly special moment as a family. Continental Treat is more than just a restaurant—it’s a place where memories are made. We’ll be back.
