Came here for a group dinner. Drinks were good and food was good. Wasn't mind blowing and nothing stood out. Service was really good though. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. My friend ordered the Salmon Poke and she didn't like a lot of the stuff that was in the poke bowl but not listed on the menu description. We had French Onion Soup Dumplings and Shoestring fries as the appetizers for the table. The soup dumplings were not soup dumplings at all. A little disappointed that it wasn't soupy. More like a caramelized onion dumpling with baked cheese. Shoestring fries were good, nostalgic. I had the seared tuna with mushroom risotto. Tune was cooked well and the mushroom risotto was very good. Overall, I enjoyed my dish. Portions are small but I'm from Texas and all portions are way too big. Overall, we enjoyed the ambiance and the food, a bit loud not ideal for an intimate dinner.
Loved it especially the swing chairs great customer service as well
The food was good, but very small portions and very overpriced for a restaurant with a casual ambience. I left the restaurant feeling very hungry still, even after spending $15 on Chicken Tikka Masala. Very disappointing that happy hour deals do not apply to guests sitting in the main dining area (only the bar), as my $12 cocktail tasted like it had barely any alcohol and the website does not mention this restriction.
First time to this restaurant for lunch... not as memorable as for dinner. Food was ok, but priced a bit high... very good service.
Was a busy Holiday but restaurant was not full. When we walked in the place was mostly empty. We were seated at the edge of the sub level circular seating. Our table for two was caught between the booth seating and the sub level seating for bigger parties. This meant that we were subjected to the noise of these parties settling into their seats and being blasted with cold air as everyone entered the restaurant to be seated. Asked to be moved but were only offered a table near the restrooms and the kitchen. Oh what joy, we could have bathroom and kitchen traffic. We declined the offer because I was not positive we would not still be cold. The whole time we ate our meal there were at least two tables upstairs that were never occupied. We were informed that the tables with the hanging basket chairs had to be reserved in advance. This app never indicated that this was an option. We were left to wonder if this was something only regulars knew. Food was good but nothing to write home about. The pancakes were buttery but the sausage was dry. The decor was interesting but we could not appreciate it as we sat in our regular hard plastic chairs watching the hanging baskets seats go unoccupied.
Took my wife and two boys for breakfast, celebrating Mother’s Day. It was raining a lot. When we came in we were greeted by the host that sent us to our reserved table in the second floor. I did notice that she (the host) sort of stared at my wife and her umbrella but didn’t think much of it. The service by the waiter and food where amazing, 5 stars. However, when we left I noticed that when you come in there was a bucket where to place your wet umbrella. Then I realized why she stared when we came in, but she (the host) should’ve mentioned that we could place our umbrella there and be more welcoming. Instead of staring. That is the only reason why I gave 4 stars.
Continental is one of our favorites in the city. Always great service and yummy food.
Food was fantastic ... mussel toast, iron noodle soup, and skirt steak.
Cocktails were fun!
Will be back!
Tonight is certainly not our first visit — and we’ve been to more than one location, too. It never disappoints! We made a last minute decision to sit at the bar upstairs over a table for two. So happy with our decision! Our bartenders were warm, friendly and so helpful! We were sitting in a spot where the staff was collecting drinks for the patrons at tables — and the staff, along with the bartenders, were friendly and interactive and as excited about the food options as us! The food ...soooooo good! We wish we had a bigger appetite to try more. From the fresh Continental salad to desert and everything between — truly unbelievable. Ambiance was fun, lively and eclectic- Starr is genius.
It was very nice , food was great, and our server was so nice.
Had a great meal and great time with my friends for my birthday! Apparently my sister called ahead and ordered a cake but it never came? Not sure what happened or if it was a lack of communication but everything else was good!
Great food, great service
Loved Every dish! I moved away but always try to get to one of the Continentals when I’m in Philly- The dishes were fun and delicious as always after 20 + years
Great place for a rooftop drink. Food is tapas style and delicious. Recommend the seasame seared tuna with risotto. Service is excellent . When dining I would prefer to sit downstairs vs upstairs .
We gathered our family for lunch to celebrate our youngest daughter’s College graduation and we enjoyed a very nice lunch in a lovely atmosphere. Our server was very friendly and attentive and the food was very good. Some of the dishes were very small, and I wished I knew that, but very tasty. I recommend it!
I would not recommend Continental Midtown because it was WAY TOO NOISY! It was impossible to carry on a comfortable conversation. It also doesn't help that the seats at the booths are very deep so you have to lean forward to eat and really lean forward to talk and be heard by the person across the table. The food was good and the service was fine, but the noise level means I will not be returning.
The service and food were great as always. Joined colleagues from NYC who really enjoyed everything about the experience. During their next visit they want to go to the rooftop area.
An excellent experience for a steak and potatoes guy! Service was great, swinging chairs were cool, definitely a thumbs up
The ambiance is great. Ideal restaurant for a date or celebration. The food was really good but in some cases the potions were small. But they do advise you that some plates are medium-size servings. My dad enjoyed his jerk chicken and my grilled beef in the Bulgogi bowl was very tasty.
Great time, great service. Found some dishes a bit salty. Enjoyed our cocktails!
It was awesome. They accommodate us for my Daughters 16th Birthday. Very nice evening.
Very chic and fun, with terrific food!!
We ordered several dishes to split among 6 people. Everything was excellent. Especially recommend the Rad Na, and the tuna tartar. We also enjoyed the Tikka Masala, the French onion soup dumplings, and the Thai chicken and lettuce wraps.
Interesting/fun decor. It’s a bit loud, wouldn’t go if you’re looking for quiet conversation.
Love the environment. Everything so well decorated. The food is amazing. Doesn’t matter what you get, everything is gonna taste so good and amazing quality. Great service.
Food was excellent and came out quickly! Nice environment for a date.
Fun atmosphere, polite servers, creative menu. One of the lettuce leaves for lettuce wraps was dirty. They promptly replaced the dirty bibb lettuce leaf with three clean ones. My tabouleh salad was overly salty. A bit too loud in atmosphere. I would recommend going. Great prices.
Great good, fun atmosphere. Would definitely recommend!
Went with my daughter. Ambiance was very nice especially the “swing seats”. Food and service were very good.
Family in town
Very fun atmosphere, excellent service, very good food. Highly recommend!
Midtown Continental never disappoints from the tasty drinks to the delicious food choices! I think we went a bit overboard in ordering but we couldn’t help ourselves. One can never go wrong with the shoestring fries and lettuce wraps. In addition we ordered the Continental salad and the meatballs. So much food for two but nice to bring home a little extra.
Loved this restaurant, staff super friendly and warm. Basket hanging chairs made dinner so much fun. Food was delicious and came out quick but never felt rushed either.
Good food and interesting diner concept. Poor service however marred the whole experience. The waiter was disinterested and other servers simply placed our food on the table at random intervals without explanation.
Great service, cool atmosphere
The food is good, the service is excellent, but the place is dirty/grungy. Not what you would expect from a Steven Starr restaurant
Tapas. Incredibly slow BAR. Very average drinks. Hasn’t been there in years and well, the shoestring fries are still a hit but other than that it really isn’t anything special. Crowded at 6:30. Dead at 9. Seems to have lost a bit of its luster over the years. There are better cocktails elsewhere.
I asked for a table in the middle (round couch/booths) and was not given one and instead a side booth that was really noisy and we couldn't hear each other from across the table which was challenging.
I've been a fan and regular patron of the Continental since it first opened in Old City in the 1990s. Now 20+ years later, the Continental Old City and Midtown remain go-to destinations for me. The food, service, and ambiance remain excellent, fun, and fresh.
LARGE portions and very accommodating. One of our party was in a wheelchair and although getting up to the 2nd floor via the elevator was a little bit of a tight squeeze at times, it was manageable with the help of the staff. GREAT food, Good libations, Good times!
This is always reliable. Would be really nice if they accented whatever your meal was with rolls or bread or something. Otherwise, great salad, good service and very nice.
