Perched atop The Newbury Hotel like a crown jewel, Contessa is a grand destination. Guests are welcomed from morning till night to a sunlit, rooftop restaurant with Art Deco references and mid-century modern detailing, offering sweeping views of Back Bay and the Boston Public Garden. The menu offers a wide variety of delicious options, from feasts of antipasti, carpaccios and pizzas, to pastas and large steaks. Went in very excited and anticipating a fabulous experience… This restaurant was in Boston magazine’s top 10. What we found was a restaurant trying very hard to be trendy, and like many popular trendy restaurants in Boston they squeeze you in like you’re on some sort of a third world train… Although the food was very good, the portions were extremely small and came with nothing… I had scallops and they were five of them and nothing else went with it… And this is it supposedly Italian restaurant. My wife’s was better but still a very small portion. When I asked our server if we needed to order anything on the side, he said no and didn’t really explain anything… Which was also the case with the menu where nothing was explained no ingredients, etc. you had to speak Italian or simply guess what you were ordering… All in all, it was a very disappointing experience and it cost me $160 to basically have an appetizer and two drinks.

A heartfelt thank you to the entire Contessa team for creating such a memorable lunch for my wedding day. From the delightful champagne to the burrata, salad, and tuna crudo (the standout dish of the day), every item was delicious. The service and ambiance were impeccable. Thank you once again! We look forward to returning soon.

The food, drinks, and vibes are all amazing. I recommend the spicy lobster pasta and the calamari.

The food was great, the restaurant and views were beautiful, but waitstaff the service was poor. The reception desk was very helpful with helping our party add a chair to the table. I very much appreciated that. But the attentiveness to our orders, water, and other details was very sparse. We were there for a 930a brunch on a Friday morning, and it took nearly an hour for us to get our food. Our order was not taken for a half hour. It was all very slow, and the staff did not seem very available to our needs once seated. The reception desk people were excellent.

I liked how the place looked, very nice view, good food and vibe. The service was the worst i ve ever received in my life. They ruin everything for you and they would do anything to disturb you. They weren’t nice at all, they try to make you leave fast, we were 5 people, ordered expensive and still treated as badly as they could. Really bad attitude, I would never go back to such place.
