Compline is a new style of wine and food destination in the heart of downtown Napa created by Master Sommelier Matt Stamp and Ryan Stetins.

Open for lunch, dinner and late-night dining, Compline focuses on Napa cuisine: we support local growers and purveyors throughout wine country's bountiful seasons, while drawing on techniques and cultural influences from around the globe. Favorite spring dishes include liberty duck breast, mushroom gnocchi, hanger steak, and our best-in-town burger and duck fat fries.

The wine bar is at the core of Compline. Our wine list focuses on handpicked local favorites and top-class Napa wines, placed among a large selection of worldwide classics. A separate retail shop selection allows our guests to grab a bottle to go.

We want to bring the Napa community and visitors to our valley together to eat good food, enjoy great wine, and experience our relaxed downtown Napa hospitality.

We went on a Sunday and was great to sit outside on a nice summer night. I think the outdoor seating (and the room that opens to the outside) is livelier than sitting inside (which seemed darker and quieter). The wine list is terrific, food was great, service was solid -- what more could you ask for.

Food quality was superb. We finished every last drop (and I almost licked my plate clean). The wines were delicious and really paired well with the food. This restaurant knows what they are doing. Highly recommend!

Keep it coming, Compline crew! Great food and wine served by knowledgeable and friendly staff. Duck fat fries are addictive, the burger was delicious and messy and the salmon fresh and tasty. So pleased to have this addition to downtown Napa dining,

Interesting concept on Sundays--they do a blind tasting wine flight. Food is very good. Burger was outstanding.

Service was great, food was good. While they had a ton of wine, the wines by the glass (and the overall choices in general) were not satisfactory to me. Please note that there were a lot of choices and I’m picky. I would have liked to have seen more local wines as ‘glass of wine’ choices (specifically for me, Chardonnay). Again, this is just my preference. The staff, the food and service were all top notch.

This was a great find among the many tasting rooms on First St in Napa. We had the duck and the hangar steak - both were absolutely fabulous. The modest sized wine list was interesting, but an eclectic mix of ghastly priced, acclaimed high end wines mixed with niche vintages that were high priced, but at least comparatively approachable to justify the leap of faith for something never tried. It’s pretty evident how the Compline margins are constructed. The service was good, but sporadic which hardly mattered given the table we had on a beautiful evening on the plaza outside.

Phenomenal meal, excellent service, wonderful wine selection. One of our new favorite restaurants and our waiter Caleb was spot on in terms of knowledge and service. It’s a limited menu, but you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!

We made reservations to have dinner on Thursday night before Bottlerock. There was a band playing on the courtyard, so we figured we would have the best seats for watching the Ethan Tucker Band.
The food didn’t disappoint! The wine was one we’d never heard of, but we loved it so much we ordered two bottles!
The service was a little slow. I don’t think the restaurant was aware that the band was booked at the dinner hour! No matter. Our food was hot when it arrived. Our server was busy, but did check in with us after our first few bites.
Overall, it was a great experience! We will definitely be back! You can’t beat that burger!
And the lamb was like nothing we’d had before!

Compline is a wonderfully welcoming, casual dining spot with a great wine selection and great food. Don't even miss the duck fat fries and, BTW, order all the other snacks and starters just because! The duck breast was tender and nicely rare. The gnocchi was tender and tasty. If you can't decide on any of the other main courses, order the most delicious burger. And definitely save room for the flourless chocolate dessert.
Love this new addition to dining in downtown Napa!

Visited Compline with my spouse and adult child for lunch. We’re total foodies. Menu more limited than dinner menu. Food was decent but portions were small. My daughter ordered the mushroom gnocchi. It was tasty but didn’t satiate her. My spouse had the duck confit salad. Had to hunt for the duck (pun intended). I had the veggie salad. Decent. Overall the price didn’t match the value. No rush to return.

Nice spot sort of hidden in Downtown Napa but near the Charlie Palmer Steak House in then new Archer Hotel. They have a nice selection of wines by the bottle at reasonable prices which you can purchase to take home with you or enjoy with your meal while dining there. They do charge what I feel is an excessive $15 corkage fee if you purchase one of their bottle offerings. $10 or < less would be more reasonable. Food menu is limited with its offerings but the quality was nice. Nice lounge area with couches which opens up to an outdoor seating area creates a neat vibe. Wish they had some fire pits to add to the ambiance of that space.

My wife and I had burgers and duck fries for lunch - the perfect base for an afternoon of wine-tasting. Our meal was awesome. An excellent wine list, as well.
If you find yourself in or near downtown Napa, Compline is a no-brainer.

Seven of us celebrated mothers’ Day there. Our appetizers and entrees were delicious. Meat and fowl tender and well sauced. Gnocchi good but nothing special, rhubarb cake delicious and moist. Butterscotch pudding disappointing. It was a bland vanilla custard with grainy chocolate. The management did comp us to one after I complained, which was very nice and unexpected, Not enough wait staff. Our waiter was pleasant and did as much as he could, but long waits for requests because he was overly busy.

We were a little hesitant on going here at first, as we noticed it was a wine bar/wine retailer/restaurant . . . and we have (as we’re sure you do too) many Napa Valley restaurants that we cherish . . . leaving us questioning sacrificing a night (possibly) by trying something new - LOL !!!
Some of our favorites are Bistro Jeanty, Charter Oak, Press and many others in the Napa Valley.

If you look a little closer, you can see that this newer restaurant is owned and operated by the A-Team . . . The owners being a Master Sommelier (Matt Stamp) formally at some place called the French Laundry (LOL) and his business partner Ryan Stetins, a former wine director at Charlie Trotter !!! The Chef (Yancy Windsperger) an alum of Spago (one of our favorites in Beverly Hills) . . . Morimoto and Bazaar by Jose Andres = enough said.

The Liberty Duck Breast with peas, carrots & cassoulet beans ($29) was simply spectacular.
The duck fat fries ($7) . . . think of the exterior being slightly crunchy (almost Panko crusted) with an interior of mashed potato = Crazy Good !!!

Great food ✅ Great service ✅ Great wine ✅ Great stemware ✅ Great ambience, while not being pretentious ✅

A Location that’s a little challenging to find (behind the new hotel) although when you do find it, it’s game on and you’ll be back for sure . . . the new Hot Spot.

Beautifully curated wine list, and fun retail wine section! Every dish was delicious. We had a leisurely romantic dinner, and didn't feel rushed. Every staff member was attentive, and knowledgeable. Artwork is perfect for the space and was great for us wine geeks. Will be back on our next Napa trip for sure!

Compline is a little hard to find (back in a small plaza off the street behind the Andaz and Archer hotels) but very much worth the effort. Both of our entrees and first courses were excellent, and they have a broad and intriguing wine list.

Compline is terrific ... very creative menu that changes frequently using locally sourced ingredients. Great wine list featuring Napa with a good mix of other regions, well tailored to the cuisine (and at fair prices). Finally, service was outstanding and very knowledgeable (especially about the wine). Wow!

I had a wonderful time at Compline. The atmosphere is modern yet comfortable with many distinct dining areas. Since I was on my own traveling for work, I sat at their wine bar. The service was prompt, friendly and most importantly knowledgeable. I tried a local Syrah paired with a pistachio crusted salmon on a bed of root vegetables and a rutabaga purée. Wow, it was exceptional! Nothing over pretentious or showy, but definitely a heart of class

Following my meal, I was given a full walk through of their wines they sell at the retail shop. Lauren was very knowledgeable about wine and their offerings that paired with my likes.

Overall I was very happy with my experience and would definitely recommend. I’ll certainly be back.

A difficult review to write. If you are 25 years old and want a Napa version of cutting edge/modern this is probably a good choice. However, if you are looking for a quality dining experience and an upscale surrounding this is not for you. The food here is fussy and pretentious. The service is just pretentious.
One good thing is that you will probably leave hungry, no weight gain unless you finish off a very good bowl of duck fat fries.
