Last minute reservations made and they did not disapoint.
Definately a place to go.
Overpriced roadkill steak tougher than a piece of rubber.
It’s was a nice place I would love to know that they don’t have any booster seats or high chairs for kids since it’s was a mother day celebration, I notice a few moms with kids has the same issue
This restaurant is a KEEPER, Ingredients are fresh, tasty and all food was delicious, and portions are perfect. Clean and organized restaurant.
Great food. At the market daily to find what’s fresh. Our cauliflower mushrooms were a little over salted. Everything else was outstanding.
This was my 2nd visit, this occasion was for a girls weekend trip. We started with the duck fat fries. They are perfect. Just the right amount of salt and crispness. I got the lamb Ragu again and it was as delicious as ever. Everyone got different dishes so we could share. The Khorosan with fiddle ferns, black cod, and ricotta gnudi were all unique and amazing. Since we’d been wine tasting most of the day, we kept it light and stuck with a local rosé.
This restaurant was simply lovely - we both had the duck and it was delicious! Ample wine selections and cool modern interior. Our server was great at suggestions.
The service was great and the ambiance was classy. However the portion size was extremely small for the price. I was surprised that none of the main dishes for dinner had any sides and the protein size itself was small. I don't feel the price was fair for what we received.
Noise was high , food was good, service was okay. Can skip
Sometimes food takes long to come out. I’ve waited tables before and sometimes you get in the weeds. But the waiter should let the waiting table know. That would have made all the difference in our experience
I was recommended this restaurant from a few Napa locals when I was at Grace’s Table restaurant. The restaurant is located in the back corner of the First Street Napa shopping mall. You will walk up to two large doors and the outdoor seating is on your right. When we walked in, we were surrounded by wine and the bar was straight ahead. The greeter found our lunch reservation and we were seated outside. In a few minutes, we had water and menus with a white wine recommendation. Per the locals recommendation, we needed to order the burger and fries cooked in duck fat. We ordered as instructed and the food arrived in about 15-20 minutes. Once you take your first few bites, you’ll understand why the restaurant is so quiet. The food is so darn good! As I my teeth cut through the bacon and patty, I could feel the juice running down the palms of my hands. I closed my eyes to enjoy the bite because I could tell this was a freshly ground hamburger. Between bites I would grab a few fries and catch my wife’s eyes. Without saying a word, we knew this was a true foodie nirvana moment. Now it is time to wrap this review up. Amazing service, check. Large outdoor seating space, check. Wine expertise, check. Friendly vibe, check. Mind blowing food, check.
This wine bar/ restaurant/retail spot has become the fun spot in town. Expect to see the area’s locals and winemakers enjoying the famous Compline burger amidst wine lovers and tourists. Cuisine here is refined comfort food highlighted with fresh locally source ingredients. What’s not to like?
First time visiting - loved the daily fresh ingredients and flavors... not drenched in sauce or dressing, just enough. Our waiter patiently explained a few of the more unusual dishes/wines, and steered us towards our preference not the most expensive menu items. Lamb Ragu pappardelle was fantastic.
We were outdoor dining due to Covid, but the heaters were sufficient. Well worth a try for a date night!
Lovely meal, seated on terrace/patio qith heaters directly over our seats. Wind was a bit much, and we forgot our jackets which impacted our enjoyment of the meal, which we realize was our fault, not that of Compline. My partner loved his steak, and I really enjoyed the pappardelle with lamb ragu. True highlight was the duck fat fries, though, definitely a must have.
One of the best restaurants and experiences in town.
One of my favorite places in Napa. Fantastic selection of wines and great food.
Sat outside in courtyard area which was comfortable and energetic. Food was outstanding, and prices were reasonable! Will definitely be back! Great spot!
Even better then advertised. Food was outstanding. Will definitely be returning.
The main courses are very good. The appetizers were somewhat disappointing. The $22 cheese plate was nothing great. They have a nice outdoor setting but they haven’t taken the liberty of making it more personalized or beautiful. Maybe adding pretty guard rails or plants would be nice. My biggest complaint is that it is a wine bar but their wine by the glass selection was minimal and frankly not good. I had to send my French Riesling back because it was so flat. Additionally a staff member came by and told us we were taking too long and that the next party would be there within 30 minutes and we needed to leave soon. I found that so offensive. The waiter was fine but the service manager and overall general service was snooty.
It is not our intention to hurry our guests experience, however, your reservation was at 5:00pm and, as stated on our OT reservation reminder, we allot about 1.5 hours for each table. It was two hours after your reservation time that we brought this to your attention. We did try to move other reservations, but on a busy Saturday night with only 50% of our tables, our options are limited. Unfortunately, that is not our permanent patio, so we do not have the ability to add permanent furnishings.
Pretty good but very expensive for what you get.
We had some wonderful food at Compline but there is wonderful food to be had elsewhere with better care taken of its customers. Ultimately, the service and ambience did not justify the price. Service was hurried and it was clear that there were not enough servers on the floor. Our wine list (one for a table of six) was whisked away after the first course, not to be seen again, and we were not asked if we'd like more wine after the first glass. I had to flag down the waiter to ask him if I could have a glass of wine with my entree and what he would recommend. Appetizers were staggered, so that two of them came out a good twenty minutes before the others--no apology or acknowledgement of this amateur move. This combination of slow and rushed service felt terrible as a customer-- that feeling that you had to catch a waiter's eye and track him down for basic things and that he is eluding you. Again, I don't blame the waiter but the management. The ambience outside, tucked into the back of a shopping area, was not warm or inviting: it could have done with blankets for us, as well. Though I made our reservations a month previously, the table was set for five rather than six and my husband never received a menu. Little touches make a meal at this price special, and I'm afraid that not only little touches but basic things were missing from this very pricey meal. I'd like to remind management that many people are visiting Napa as their first getaway since the pandemic and that Compline is a special, celebratory meal for many-- not a typical weekend out kind- of- place. It is an experience they want to remember fondly. Finally, beware: I learned later that they often add a service charge to the final bill. We were so tired and in a rush to get out of there that I didn't spend too much time looking at the details of the final bill and wonder if I left a 20% tip on top of a service charge without knowing it-- which would be galling, given the experience.
Great restaurant, great food. Outdoor seating was a bit bland but necessary during the pandemic. Cod was prepared perfectly.
Was freezing outside and was told if we cancel on the spot it was $100 to leave. Really? We ate as fast as we could and didn’t really enjoy the experience after the rough start.
Kevin, We understand that the temperatures dropped during your dining experience. We were unable to move your table, because the dining room and remaining patio were full. In an effort to make you more comfortable on the patio we worked with Chef to bring the dishes out quickly and hot. We also had your individual table heater on max. Our intention was not to make your experience too expeditious. We look forward to warmer days and more seating capacity indoors.
birthday lunch... yum
It was a first class experience all the way ! Will definitely be coming back
Compline is a fantastic wine bar with a unique curated list. The owners are both super personable and stop by the tables often. Matt, the Master Somm, was a wealth of knowledge and incredibly helpful when we were choosing a more adventurous bottle to share. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because while the food is good, we felt the prices were pretty high in comparison to the portions. (The black cod was a highlight). But we love the atmosphere and the wine is truly spectacular. Very excited for the wine classes w/ Matt to start back up.
This place is JUST SO DAMN GOOD! Amazing wine list, and those DAMN DUCK FAT FRIES🥰🥰🥰
Excellent service EVERY SINGLE TIME SINCE DAY 1!!!
Was excited about it as the person at the tasting room said it was great. 2 of us really enjoyed our meals and 2 of us not so much. One dish was the Ricotta Gnudi which was basically a porridge/grits. Not sure if they melted or used too much of something but was unfortunately better eaten w a spoon than fork. The other disappointing dish was the pork belly. It was much fattier than usual. We did eat pretty late so maybe we were just at the tail end. The steak and the duck were delicious and the duck fat fries were AHMAYZING. So overall it was a mixed bag.
Fantastic food! Went for dinner after a day at the vineyards, perfect place to enjoy a good meal and unwind in downtown Napa
Probably the best food I have had in 20 years! I am a food snob and this was French Laundry style exquisite meals. The Pork Belly was out of this world and the Parpadelle with lamb ragu was the best I have ever tasted! The cheese cake was no traditional cheese cake, but an exceptional and delicate desert. The service, unfortunately was very slow, which didn't bother us because we wanted to linger, but had my husband been there, he would have been angry.
Excellent food, wine, and service as usual. COVID-safe
Fantastic wine list and excellent food.
Outside patio lunch.... great service and BEST food and wine. Cannot be beat!
We went here for the first time, and we were really pleased with the experience. The waitstaff was very helpful and friendly, but not intrusive. It was pretty quiet for lunch, but that is to be expected for a Monday when we are barely starting to allow limited indoor dining. I ordered fish but their seafood hadn't arrived yet, so I went with a salad. The food was great and I got some friendly help picking out a glass of wine. Can't say much about the ambience as we were outside and there isn't much going on as far as scenery.
Despite chilly outdoor dining due to pandemic, Compline delivered warmth through great food and service. The portions are on the smaller side - so don't plan on sharing dishes if you are hungry. Our friends split a starter salad - and ended up with just a few bites each. I ordered the lentil soup - portion was small but perfect for one - and the flavors were amazing. The chicken pate was only appetizer that we ordered that was large enough to share - and it was delicious. Toasted bread served as vessel for the creamy chicken liver mousse. Main dishes were a hit - the cod, again small but tasty. The tagliatelle with lamb ragu, rich but a small serving (can't share). The pork belly - perfectly tender and the gnudi - soft, perfect pockets of pasta. We ordered two desserts for the table of four - and it was perfect size. The service was attentive and kind. They even rolled over another table heat lamp as diners were clearing out so we could be a little warmer outside. Helped make the dessert course much more enjoyable. All-in-all, a lovely restaurant with great service - a little on the pricey side given the smaller portions but great service made it all worthwhile.
Delicious food! Small plates but big on taste. Outdoor was away from street.
Delicious food!! Atmosphere with outside heaters. Must get duck fat fries.
Such a wonderful experience. Delicious food, attentive service, and great ambience!
If you want to overpay for a snack, then go for it. This place is overpriced and the amount of food they give you is minimal. Will never come back
Good food get the duck fat fries!
