Open for lunch, dinner and late-night dining, Compline focuses on Napa cuisine: we support local growers and purveyors throughout wine country's bountiful seasons, while drawing on techniques and cultural influences from around the globe. Favorite spring dishes include wild salmon with mango and bok choy, liberty duck breast, lemon pepper chicken, and our best-in-town burger and duck fat fries.
The wine bar is at the core of Compline. Our wine list focuses on handpicked local favorites and top-class Napa wines, placed among a large selection of worldwide classics. A separate retail shop selection allows our guests to grab a bottle to go.
We want to bring the Napa community and visitors to our valley together to eat good food, enjoy great wine, and experience our relaxed downtown Napa hospitality.
Truly exceptional. Casual dining with perfect food and wine. Every time.
The duck risotto was insanely awesome! As we’re the duck fat fries.
We had a delicious meal - better than we expected. Compline is a little hard to find but worth the journey.
Every time we introduce Compline to friends, they like it as much as we do. Burger is the best and you must have the fries. Great wine selection.
Great service, imaginative and delicious food and wonderful wine selection.
They were so accommodating to multiple special requests and lovely with my 2yo. Compline has gotten progressively better in food each time I've been (maybe 4) since they opened. It's hard to cook octopus perfectly and they did. Wine list is of course always standout and all servers have excellent knowledge of it with recommendations for pairing with any meal. Compline is definitely a new feather in Napas hat and compliments the nearby Archer hotel nicely.
A great venue to enjoy wines, nibbles, and a cool atmosphere with their indoor and outdoor seating offered. Good value if you purchase a bottle from their varied wine 🍷 shop and they feature wines from all over the world not just Napa / Sonoma centric. Food was great but found portions small and pricey. ALSO feel they wines by the glass a bit pricey as well.
Lovely, quaint wine and food bar. Excellent choices of wine at an affordable price. Food is phenomenal! Extremely knowledgeable Master Sommelier!
loved the food, but service was not good. didn't course out what we ordered properly..30 min lag time before entre, no apology had to chase down staff for water, etc.
$30 dollars for 1 hamburger and fries. No drinks. Service was terrible but an automatic service charge was applied. Will not be back. Napa has Better food and value choices than this establishment.
Good food and good selection of bottles. I was surprised they didn’t have any Sonoma and only one Napa wine in their one glass options.
The steak was great
Had a fabulous off-menu meal for my birthday and the serve was amazing! This is our favorite Napa restaurant by far!
We had a wonderful experience at Compline. The staff was really nice. Although the menu has a few options, there is something for everyone. Our group had the croquettes, pork dumplings, culottes steak, brisket, duck risotto, and burger. We even had both dessert options! I would definitely recommend this when visiting Napa.
We had a great evening dining here. It’s a pretty simple menu, but good. Great wines! We will definitely go again. I didn’t give 5 stars simply because it won’t blow you away, but you’ll enjoy it.
The service is always excellent and the food is outstanding. Great selection of wines. This place is one of my favorites in Napa.
Extremely underwhelming. The food is extremely overpriced given the quality. Food was served room temperature, we sent the food back and the food was the exact same temperature. Waitor disappeared for 20 minutes + at a time. Overall, very disappointing experience for a $700 dinner. Will not return nor recommend.
Terrific food and an outstanding wine selection. Nice choices of seating: restaurant, lounge or patio. Service is exceptional.
The menu is very limited (few choices and exotic fare). The ambiance is stark and basic. I am sure they offer great opportunities for wine education but there are plenty of other choices for downtown dining. The fries were their best offering of the night.
On a day where the restaurant was virtually empty, the waiter was not paying attention. He was very nice, but very incompetent. He failed to bring us one of the items we had ordered, even after we reminded him. He was nonplussed. Once again, for the sake of clarity, he was a nice, chatty guy, but what do you call a person who after being reminded still did not deliver and just shrugged, albeit with a smile? Incompetence is defined as the inability to do something successfully. Sorry, but this is what happened.
Hi, thanks for dining with us. We are always ok with criticism—it makes us better—but we'd appreciate it if you can remain respectful. Our team works hard and we are proud of the level of service they provide. -Matt and Ryan
Food exceptionaly delicious.
This was the cherry on top of our wonderful day in Napa. We wanted to try something new and different and I think we found it. The noise level was quiet to moderate. We felt as if we had the restaurant to ourselves. The food was delicious. We had the croquettes, fries and shared the sea bass, which was the special. We took every recommendation from wine to dessert and every bite was perfect. Our service was excellent, to the point of tipping past the service charge. We will definitely be returning very soon! Can wait for the Compline crew to design us another beautiful night.
We frequent Compline because of the food and wine, plus friendly service. Glad the duck was back on the menu and like the new chicken dish. Will be back soon.
Love Compline - especially the duck fat fries and the burger! Delicious!
A little gem with an appealing vibe. Concise menu that is highly appropriate for wine country, unfussy but professional service, spartan, calm interior (but comfy!), and best of all, a sensational wine list. Lesser-known local bottles, and wonderful global choices that let you know there are serious wine chops behind this must-visit, intimate restaurant/wine bar. The menu looks like it will shift frequently, but I really admired the octopus, seafood risotto (abundant, and I mean abundant seafood is cradled by creamy, perfectly cooked rice), and the burger looked fab as it passed by on the way to a neighboring table. Cannot wait to return. Bonus: Sophienwald wine glasses that will ruin you forever (if you like Zalto, you'll love these even more).
Our server was very attentive and well informed about the food on the menu. We had the barbecued brisket sandwich and the combination of flavors of the meat and slaw was delicious. After we left, one of the servers ran outside after us to give me back my scarf that I had accidentally left at the table. Very good restaurant we would recommend highly.
Best risotto ever! Lots of crab and shrimp in a delightful sauce and rice. Friends had the duck...to die for. And what's not to like about the duck fat fries. Compline just keeps getting better and better! Cheers!
What can I say? At compline, you eat your food with your wine here. The wine list is impressive and the servers are a wealth of knowledge in wine. I was so impressed. I have to say their burgers are one of my favorites in napa valley, definitely in my top 3 behind, charter oak.
Compline is my “go to” restaurant in Napa it never disappoints starting off with the $15 corkage fee love it! I mixed it up this time and got the chicken cacciatore I usually get the strip steak. The chicken was amazing plus I got the couscous salad which was so fresh and tasty it’s my new favorite. I love this place whenever we have friends in town we go here. We also go just the two of us during the week to split a burger and get those duck fat fries that are the BEST!
Great experience. Knowledgeable staff and of course great wines.
The wine was good, but the food was below expectations. The spaetzle was bland and the texture wasn't right. Same with the mashed potatoes that came with another dish. Overall, the food was a bit too greasy for me, too.
Introduced another foodie to the delights of Compline. Nothing beats their burger and sinful duck fat fries for an indulgent lunch. My friend loved her smoked salmon soup and a salad. Thanks Matt and Ryan for another great meal.
This was a dinner for two, first time at the restaurant.
Things we liked:
- Charming, welcoming ambiance
- Very good service
- Food good and reasonably priced
- Generally quiet
- Extensive international wine list
Things we didn't like:
- Relatively poor wine by the glass selection for a wine bar
- Few Napa/Sonoma wines on the list, almost none by the glass
- Wine overpriced. I realize this can be subjective but we drank wine in restaurants, many in which the food was much more expensive, all over the valley during our week long stay (an annual trip for us) and yet were taken aback by the prices here.
Hi Steve, Thanks for the candid review. We appreciate that you liked the food, but next time we would love the opportunity to help you find the wines or price range you are looking for. We've got 20 wines by the glass and five of them are currently local. We've also got about 70 selections under $50 a bottle between our wine list and retail shop. Always happy when our guests find and drink wine they like at a price they like too.
Amazing food and a great service staff! Loved the Glassware and the winelist
It was my first time there and we were the only table at first. The food was good and healthy. I would like to see more salad choices.
Have dined here many times and have always had a great meal. Definitely on the higher end of cost, and note that they automatically include a 15% gratuity for every check regardless of party size, VERY uncommon.
Compline always delivers quality service, food, wine and ambiance. The new octopus appetizer was incredible! My only complaint is that I didn’t leave enough room for one of their amazing desserts! The perfect excuse to go back!
I wish I could have written a more positive review but unfortunately
I cannot. We were a party of three at 1pm. We were one of three parties in the restaurant and yet our meal took over 30 minutes to arrive. My husband ordered soup, my brother ordered a hamburger and I ordered
a salad with a very small piece of salmon. No alcohol. Our bill was over 75.00!!! We live in Napa and eat out often so Napa/California prices are familiar to us. This, however, was shocking. My brother in law enjoyed his hamburger. My salad was fine, not exceptional. My husband finished half his soup which was not to his liking. The lack of a full restaurant on a Saturday at lunchtime can now be understood.
Perfect lunch menu, excellent service and wine lsit. food quality, preparation and presentation all very excellent. First time there. Going for dinner next outing.
