The hostess forgot to mark me as showing for my reservation. I received a notification from OpenTable informing me that I did not show. I called and spoke to the manager today to have them fix it since I did show up for my rsvp. Looks like he made another reservation for me for today? Anyway aside of the inconvenience of trying to fix them marking me a no show, we enjoyed the restaurant atmosphere, service and food.

First visit to Complicated Pilgrim…we made reservations during a play at Hattiloo Theatre. We were seated earlier than our reservation time. Host was friendly; service was superb. The food was excellent; I ordered the lunch special, chicken lollipops and my husband ordered the chicken sandwich. It was a beautiful lunch. We will definitely return for a dinner service.

The restaurant was empty. We were the only table at 6pm on a Tuesday. The hostess never spoke a word to us, the bartender was pompous, and our server did as little as possible. She didn’t greet us, just asked what we wanted to drink. She was annoyed we’re weren’t ready to order our entrees when we ordered appetizers and when we paid she sat our bills down and again never said a word. My party of 4 all talked about how unwelcome and uncomfortable the staff made us feel. The food wasn’t great either. They served over cooked sister Schubert rolls as bread service, the scallops were tiny and smelled, the sauce on the pot stickers had to be Sweet Baby Ray’s bbq sauce, my fish sandwich was over cooked, my dad’s pork shop was over cooked, and my brother’s burger was overcooked, and all 3 of our deserts were really bad. The coffee was great, though. I think this is the worst restaurant I’ve been to in Memphis. I assume it’s a money laundering service for some criminal organization. There’s no other explanation of how it could be this bad and still be open. Can’t wait to never go back.

I cannot say enough good things about this place. The food is incredible (don’t sleep on the biscuits or shrimp and grits for breakfast/brunch), the staff is amazing, and the vibe is super fun. Harvey, Kya, Madilyn, and Evan (to name a few) are exceptional.

The server was not very guest related or customer responsive. She was extremely cold and failed to bring our bread before the meal. Perhaps more training is needed for her to develop more acceptable skills in dealing with customers. We were very dissatisfied.
