The restaurant Is closed! How obnoxious not to shut down online reservations when you close your restaurant.
Donuts are dry. Food is gross. Overpriced. Unfriendly staff. Bartender is inexperienced and openly talked about how he hated working. Managers just sitting around and doing nothing. Not impressed. Avoid.
Horrible. Worst meal in my 28 years in and around DC.
The wait staff was pleasant but completely untrained. It took close to 40 minutes to get the appetizer with no explanation until someone complained and 2 out of 4 dinner orders were incorrect. One person had a burger because the BGR burgers are so good and said it was just so-so. All 4 of us were pretty disappointed.
Place was empty and short menu but food was good and nice bartender.
The service is slow and we arrived at 12pm and they were out of eggs. Food arrived at all different times and we had to ask for silverware. Very weird experience. The food was great!
Wanted to have a casual bite with my son on a Saturday night. Community fit the bill. Fun interior; great music. And a menu with something for everyone. I had all day breakfast pancakes which were enormous. My son had a meatball sub. Complimentary homemade doughnut for dessert. It was fun and a good value.
One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. I should have known what was coming when we waited at the host stand for 5 minutes before receiving any acknowledgment. I thought this would be my new favorite place but instead I will not be going back.
Horrible experience. Bad service. Overpriced. Never going back.
Restaurant was under-staffed for restaurant week. Long wait for everything. Food not particularly special. Not worth the wait at all.
I have never seen a restaurant this far out of control, which is really a shame. The restaurant is inviting, well designed and attractive. We (family of four) have a place nearby and decided to try it this morning. We were promptly seated and ordered three burgers and salmon over quinoa salad. The restaurant was about one third full, but service was very slow. Three of our four plates were brought out. The fries were soaked in wet grease. The salmon was cold and smelled rancid. The burgers were good. No ketchup, no salt and no nearby server so we roamed nearby tables to scour these. The party at the next table was also having issues...a cold matzo ball was returned to the kitchen and brought back microwaved. We noted our salmon plate was being microwaved and cancelled it. The fourth burger showed up, with good fries. We requested refills and when we were finishing, these were brought. The server was apologetic and the salmon was dropped from the tab, but this place was really out of control, from kitchen to table.
This was one of the worst meals we have ever experienced. They were out of 3 items I was going to order and a few of the beers my husband wanted. I ended up getting a fried chicken salad which was not a true fried chicken salad. It came as a small piece of fried chicken shredded and dry. I returned it and the maitre 'd asked if I wanted anything else. When I declined, he said he could microwave anything I would like. Who goes out to dinner to have something microwaved?
This was my second visit to Community. We took my aunts to dinner, and my one aunt just loves cheeseburgers, so that is what she ordered (and I did, too). The cheeseburgers at Community are really, really good. The service was also excellent. I like the way the place is decorated -- like a retro diner from the 70s. They serve breakfast all day, which is unusual for Bethesda. We haven't taken advantage of that yet, but I'm sure we will.
The menu is limited....several things on the menu were not available!
The wait staff, while sweet, were not well informed or well trained!
The food was nothing outstanding.....we ate there for lunch the first time....we thought that meal was better....this time we ate there for dinner....some strange choices for dinner and the food left a lot to be desired....I had the crab cakes...they were not very good...also on the plate were home made chips...poor substitute for fries!! my husband had the chicken part which was supposed to be veal part but they were out of veal...he said it had no taste! the friends that we were with were as disappointed as we....one had the chicken part also....nothing came on the dish with the chicken....
all in all....very disappointing!! will NOT return
Went for dinner on Saturday evening and decided to just do a variety of apps instead of entrees. Good thing because everything was sub-par. Either not coked enough or too smothered. While the staff tried to be helpful, no level of attention could mask the poor quality of the food. Should have read the YELP reviews before going there.
I really wanted to like this place; I've had the donuts a few times and think they are some of the best in the area. Unfortunately the experience in the restaurant has some work to do.
- We were seated promptly, and then waited a good ten minutes to be greeted by the busboy, who placed the chargers and utensils and brought water.
- After waiting for our server to greet us, we ordered an appetizer (Capt. Crunch Chicken Tenders) and then waited 20 minutes for them to arrive. The restaurant was not busy at this time, 2-3 tables max. Also to note, that the Tenders order comes with four pieces, not the ten that the busboy communicated to me when asked.
- The GM asked if we needed anything, and when I requested some more water I was greeted with a huff and a "it's coming." comment.
- I ordered tomato soup as a starter, but it did not come. I was told that it would come when our entrees started to arrive, at which point I requested they cancel it.
- However, if I had known that my Pork Chop entree was not going to arrive with the rest of the table's entrees, I would have kept the soup. I was told that it was "coming", but looking at the kitchen it was very clear that they forgot to make it and it was rushed.
- The food was pretty good; the chicken tenders were house-made, the pork chop was cooked well (although ask for the sauce on the side, it's quite sweet) and the donuts are great.
- The servers were very nice, but seem overwhelmed. Management please get them some support (and training).
I'm not sure we'll be back (although I'd like to try the breakfast). I would recommend going to the take-out window for $1 donuts and $2 coffees and call it a day.
It was the worst dining experience I have ever had. I would recommend taking this restaurant off of Open Table in order to preserve your reputation.
Sunday brunch - waited an hour for our food.
Server was lovely but no matter -
Won't go back.
Terrible and not worth the money at all. Would not be able to recommend at all
Community is much more than a neighborhood gem. The food is superb and Claire is a superb waitress. We love the Beet Salad and the Salmon was cooked to our liking. The music on Wednesday night was a little too loud.
hamburger is their specialty, and they make a good one -- meat has good taste and texture -- was cooked medium rare, just as ordered -- hand cut potato chips and fries also quite good -- crab/spinach dip was marginal -- fried chicken + greens salad was poor -- lousy greens, not much chicken and marginal dressing -- good coffee -- in all, would say it is an OK place to go for a bite -- may give it try for dinner -- but there are other good places to go in the area
The food is terrible here
Good breakfast foods and well presented. Brought us free donuts as we had to wait for our order to arrive. Very pleasant and attentive receptionist and waitress. High ceiling may be responsible for medium noise level. Comfortable booth and not too close to other diners. Was nice to try somewhere new in Bethesda.
Thank goodness the food was really good. The wait team while nice was very inexperienced and off today. Get them trained and things will go well.
Eggs and bacon and toast all underdone. Paid $2 extra for the toast -- and got one slice (and it was cold, limp, and unbuttered). Had to request butter and jam (never got the latter) and syrup for the pancake as they never made an appearance on their own. Iced tea is powdered instant. Nice waitress, but won't go back.
Ordered the veggie burger. It arrived barely warm. Asked for a side salad instead of fries. They through a few pieces of lettuce on the plate. Help was not impressive. Seemed untrained and new. Would not rush back
Community has good quality food. A mix of comfort food and more upscale dishes. My friends meatball sub and my chicken and waffles were very good.
I love the quirky decor of this restaurant. The food is great, too. They won me over again with the hot fresh doughnuts this time! You also can get them at a window for a buck apiece. Yum!!!!!
I have dined at community twice before and enjoyed it so was looking forward to returning. Upon arriving we found the restaurant to be visibly dirty will food and garbage on the floor. Our waitress was friendly but it took at least 40 min for our food to arrive (and there were only 5 or 6 tables). When the food finally came 2 of the 4 entrees were really bad - they looked bad and tasted worse. My salmon was so over cooked it was inedible. The server took it off the bill but never asked if I wanted anything else. There are so many options in Bethesda I won't hurry back to Community.
It was mother's day and we had a reservation. It took twenty minutes to order and get us water. 25 minutes later, I got half my meal but there was no food for my wife or two daughters. The food I got was cold so they brought me more eggs right away and they were . . . cold. I spoke to the manager, who clearly was exasperated and exhausted and he said that they were surprised to be full -- on Mother's Day in a brunch restaurant? Then he said he'd get everyone their meals but we never saw him again. Then we spoke to the "kitchen manager" and he was clearly very offended that we were unhappy. He offered to pay for our food but there was no food. I asked if he was going to get our meals and he actually said "I don't know -- I have to go check on what you ordered." Huh? He went to check on our food and did not come back. So, we left and got take out sandwiches across the street.
The sooner this restaurant closes, the better as it's a good location that someone competent can do something with.
I picked this spot thinking it would be a great local alternative with good food and a relaxed ambiance. Made a 12N reservation. We were seated at 12:17 and had to ash that they clean the seats as the young lady that cleaned the table wiped the food onto all the chairs. We received water at 12:25 ... and then was told that we couldn't get anything other than breakfast (most of us wanted the chicken and waffles or fish and chips). Upon getting the food, we waited another 10 minutes for butter and syrup for the waffles that had been ordered. I feel bad for the place as the food was good but I wouldn't go back based on the service and the way the operation is handled.
Cool and local upscale diner
Worst experience from start to finish in a very long time
ON mothers day, they failed to seat our party despite us having a reservation. They contended that seats were't the hold up but rather about concerns about being able to get food out to our table in a timely manner. After more than an hour's wait with no end in sight, we left after complaining to the owner/manager who was entirely unrepentant.
I arrived for brunch on Mother's Day having reserved two tables for 8 adults and 5 children. They were understaffed and disorganized There were tables left unbussed; not knowing what to do, the poor hostess started to bus tables. There were a couple of empty (unbussed) tables outside but they told us water would probably drip from the roof onto our food, so they did not recommend those tables. We waited for 30 minutes and then they told us it would be another 5 minutes to be seated but that the food would come very slowly. We left and ate elsewhere. I have no idea how the food is, but the service is not good. (I gave the food a rating of 3 because the system would not let me submit my response without a rating, but I did not eat any food there.)
The server was nice, the food was good but they were clearly unprepared for the brunch volume. This is expected result with poor planning.
Made a reservation for Mother's Day brunch. Despite arriving a bit early and there being numerous empty tables, the hostess said the staff was overwhelmed and unable to honor reservations. They said there would be a 35 minute wait. I was there with my 87 year old parent--this made our brunch infeasible. We left. Very disappointing!!!
I wanted to like this place because the space is gorgeous and the location is fantastic, but the service wasn't very good. I don't blame the actual servers, because they were working extremely hard (and seemed pretty stressed), rather I attribute it to the fact that there were not enough servers to meet the demand. For example, it took almost 30 minutes for us to get water for the table. Once we eventually ordered food, it came quickly and it was good. Therefore, this place has potential, but needs more help.
The service is absolutely horrible.
