Communion Ratings and Reviews
I loved that I was able to make an online reservation easily with open table.the view was great My brunch was very good I had the Sante, My husband did not like his English breakfast, the sausage was dry, blood pudding very salty and the bacon was undercooked.
My kids had egs Benedict , the holland aisle was very fruity , the eggs where good but not hot.
Service was quick and pleasant. Nice atmosphere .
I would go back but do what I did and ask the server for their thoughts on the best items.
- Food was good, not fantastic
- Price was incredibly expensive vs. comparable places nearby and given size of the portions
- Management and staff mindset is to extract as much money from patrons as possible, not rude but unpleasant
- lack of champagne option by the glass was very disappointing (recommended pseudo bubbles from Loire region that gave us heart burn all night)
- Feels like tourist trap, won't go back, wouldn't recommend to a friend
Went on Valentine's Day, so there was a special menu. This could have been a problem for us, as a vegan couple. But our wonderful waitress quickly resolved this issue for us, and what followed was a delightful meal. All the service staff were very friendly. Great attention to detail.
First time at Communion. Was a little surprised how the menu worked but once got the hang of it, the food was divine. Had the pork belly, green salad, beef tartare, the Pont-Neuf frites, the charcuterie board and the accras de turbot. Tthey were all excellent. And the piece de résistance was a sublime chocolate walnut brownie. Yeah! Oh yes, the wine was good too. We had a lovely Côte de Rhone.
My boyfriend and I went there for NYE and really appreciated our dining experience. The Jerusalem Artichoke cream served with the scampi, the tomato emulsion served with the ravioli as well as the carambar and yuzu side with the chocolate desert were my favourites! The inside decor is beautiful with some brick and tile walls and the bar looks amazing. I found our waitress very pleasant and polite. Definitely worth it!
Was there for a bridal shower. It was perfect, we had plenty of time to chat, the waitress was helpful, giving alternatives to a dish my friend wanted (switched the parsnip to spinach).
Both mains were fantastic and plated up so beautifully that the bride to be wanted pictures of it. Pork chops were seared to perfection, was tender and juicy. Duo fish in bisque was equally good, both trout and sea bass cooked to just right and the bisque sauce made me wish for a spoon, I used the potato and bread to get to it. Con: portions were too much for us, we had no space for dessert.
Would definitely go back again.
I know one reviewer complained of slow service but it's more a sit-down restaurant where you chat leisurely as you wait for your food.
This restaurant in Old Montreal is in a beautiful location near the water where you can watch the people and horses go by. We ordered a brunch that came with poached eggs on a delicious spinach salad, fresh fruit salad, a yogurt parfait with homemade strawberry jam and the best granola, blueberry pancakes and a goblet of warm maple syrup. Before that came out we got a basket of toasted french bread and sesame bagel with homemade jam. My cappucino and my daughter's hot chocolate (also both fantastic) didn't come right away (they came with our meals), so the server brought us complimenatry freshly squeezed orange juice (which my daughter enjoyed watching get made). The brunch kept us full for six hours as we walked all over Montreal!
The food was very disappointing. What more can be said - the 4 of us each had the table d'hote, for me, two out of the 3 courses were actually bad, the dessert being inedible. But maybe worse than that, at 6:15 when we were seated, we told the waitrr we had to leave at 7:45 for the theater. He assured us, of course, that it would be no problem. At 7:40 we were still not served dessert, despite frequent reminders that we had a time deadline. We rushed out of the restaurant with the 4 desserts hardly eaten, thankfully for me, I would not have eaten mine anyway, after the first bite.
Dined here recently and in almost all aspects the evening was quite enjoyable The only negative was the veal sirloin which was not as tender as it should have been, possibly because it came more medium than the medium rare requested. The $33.00 two course Table d'hote is a nice option.
It took us over 2 hours to get our lunch!!! The manager claimed it was because of a new menu and new kitchen staff, but over 2 hours is simply inexcusable. The food was mediocre. Service super slow and unprofessional. The music was so loud at lunch that we could not talk and the manager insulted my parents and their friends by saying they were old and the music level was set for the younger clients (of which there were none indoors!!) Rude, slow and mediocre. Would NEVER recommend.
The food & ambience were great. The issue with this place is the terrible service. Ordered a bottle of wine on the menu & the waitress came back once to refill our glasses....when the bottle was finished. Also had to wait about 30 minutes to get the table cleared once we finished eating & the restaurant was dead at the time.
Six of us had brunch at the Communion Restaurant last Saturday. It was my second visit there. As on my first visit, the food was excellent. The wait staff were friendly, helpful and patient (we had a three year old with us). We sat outside to enjoy true sights of Old Port. I strongly recommend doing so. My only regret was that one patron was smoking. That was a damper for me. I suggest that for brunch and lunch, smoking should be banned, even outdoors.
We come to Montreal every year in August and wanted a brunch in Old Town. I use OT all the time and was very disappointed with the service and food. There was a street festival so we did understand they were busy, but they were unprepared for the crowds. They ran out of orange juice, we went through two baskets of bread because the meal was so delayed in being served. The potatoes included were cold when served under the warm eggs. The quality of the smoked salmon was very good and the eggs fresh but the presentation sloppy. I was supposed to share with a person at the other end of the table without an extra plate? I really don't want to go on, it was average and disappointing.
I had only been to Communion once before for brunch. Although brunch had been quite enjoyable, dinner exceeded my expectations. We went there for a friend's birthday dinner. All of our dishes were wonderful. The $33 3-course menu is a fantastic deal. The food is not overdone or fussy, and everything was fresh and tasty. I will definitely be back again soon!
We were 6 girls and still we manage to talk and share because the noise level was perfect. There were many families with young kids and even a couple with a dog and we never felt incommoded. Neither we think that they were with us! It is a happy shared space with a lovely terrace. The white sangria was good, the TH was well balanced with 3 options and in general we had a great time.
Communion has a well deserved reputation as a sit-bt-the-waterh outdoor restaurant/cafe where the outdoors are an integral part of the summer ambiance. We came on a rainy day, sat inside, and were delighted. Our waiter could not have been more attentive or helpful. The wine list was rich in content, reasonable in price. And we were thrilled with our food--steak tartare, foie gras and, oddly, one vegetable salad. And a big picture window brought the outsides in, so we didn't miss a trick, even in the rain.
We had a wonderful evening at Communion. The meal was delicious, particularly the special entree and main course of the day. The service was exceptionally friendly yet very professional, and the ambience was social but not too loud which was nice so that you could have conversation without loud music or neighbours. I look forward to returning !
The long and the short of my visit is that everything was "good". Nothing was "great", nothing was "poor". I did not leave raving about how wonderful/original the food was, nor do I never want to go back again. I had sea bass with pesto sauce and asparagus. My wife had an orzotto. Everything was cooked perfectly, but the flavours did not wow either of us. It was hardly something to complain about, but I found people-watching along the street more interesting than the food.
