This is one of my favorite restaurants. I am so disappointed it is closing! I hope Jason will open another restaurant in San Francisco soon.
One of the best dining experience I have had in SF. It’s Michelin’s Star quality and food experience with cool relaxed setting.
Closing on August 31st after 9 years.
Great food and presentation.
If you getvin before the closing vat the end of month, highly recommend the price fix. Special of the night. You can substitute if the selection doesn't meet your diet.
We'll miss them..... hope fully they will return soon and open another great experience .
One of our favorite places - the ideal combination of creative food and friendly, efficient service. A shame that another greedy landlord is closing down another San Francisco restaurant destination.
We were very happy to have visited Commonwealth before they close. The amazing staff was knowledgeable and friendly and attentive to detail, and the food really spoke to the restaurants spirit and showcased the wonderful rooftop garden. The wine pairing went perfectly as well. The bill in the end was also very nice considering the awesome level of food we had!
Another outstanding experience! Remains my favorite tasting menu in the city last 10 years. So sorry to see them have to leave due to greedy landlord. It is sad and they will be missed tremendously ❤️
As always, everything was stellar. Best restaurant in SF.
The server said the chefs tasting menu would take about 3 hours, so we passed and went with the regular tasting menu with few courses. It still took 3 hours.
Super fresh and innovative food. Service was attentive but not stuffy. So sad it is closing!
Best restaurant in SF. Service is impeccable. Food is unbelievable in its originality, quality, and flavor.
The tasting menu was superb. Sadly, the restaurant is closing.
Parking is an issue here, need additional arrangements for customers
Regret that our first dining experience at Commonwealth is also our last as the restaurant will be closing soon. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing. Great value for the quality. Beautiful presentation and wonderful service. Servers are very knowledgeable about both the food and wine.
Great food, even better considering the price! Not the nicest neighborhood, but that explains why they’re able to sell Michelin starred food at regular restaurant prices.
Commonwealth is a gem in San Francisco and its a shame and tragedy that it is closing in August. The restaurant, the exceptional front of house staff and of course Chef Jason Fox and his kitchen team will be sorely missed.
Amazing food/wine, exceptional service and a really kind and attentive staff. We had a great time and highly recommend Commonwealth.
The greatest modern food bargain in the city. Farewell, Commonwealth.
The food and wine experience was amazing! We did the extended tasting menu and we were there for nearly 4 hours. The wait staff was friendly and explained each dish and wine to us. We went with 4 people and it was a pretty expensive meal but for the full experience it was worth it. We loved the atmosphere, it was busy (even on a Sunday) but didn’t feel loud and you could really enjoy your conversations. Would want to come back for another special occasion!
Food has small portion sizes but the prices are reasonable and the food is good. The young hen and the shrimp mouse was to die for.
I have been coming here almost yearly to see how this restaurant has progressed, and last night was possibly the best meal I have had in the last decade. The food was precise without any superfluous elements and the wine service was deft and on point. Sadly Commonwealth will be closing next month, but I have no doubt that the talented people who work there both in front and back of the house will move on to bigger and better things, but this place is special, so check it out before it is too late.
Better make your reservations before August 31 as Commonwealth will be closing after that date. A wonderful restaurant forced to close due to another greedy landlord. I tried the extended tasting menu. It was incredible. With the variety of cooking styles and different paired wines it felt like a trip around the world at a much lower cost!
The food was amazing and service was great .
Nothing interesting about the food. Lacked flavor. Bland. The wait staff was nice. We did the tasting menu. Approximately $500 for 3 people including a bottle of wine. Expected more. Would not recommend.
We had the full menu for dinner at Commonwealth. It was a great experience. The food was delicious and the service staff was excellent. I anticipate a return visit shortly.
great food, great service and ambience. We definitely will come back.
Wonderful, innovative food and interesting, delicious wines.
Great value for this many course, pre fixed menu. I would definitely return!
This restaurant has won my heart, and is my favorite in the city! ❤️
A small, sparse and tastefully decorated restaurant in the heart of the Mission. The hay-smoked carrots were tender and delectable, the desserts were a treat, and the service was impeccable and particularly patient with the non-English-speaking guests I had for the evening. Every dish we tried was very conscientiously prepared, and there are a wide variety of vegetarian options that are just as sophisticated and delicious as the meat dishes.
I have had 3 amazing meals here before. Unfortunately this time the quality of the dishes was poor. Everything is in place for a fantastic experience, including great service but when the food quality isn’t there it all falls apart.
The food and service are excellent. The ambience needs improvement. They need more elegant sophisticated furnishings (e.g., tablecloths, sound dampening window treatments, etc.). I understand they may be moving to a new location in the future and hopefully this issues will be addressed. My only food criticism is that seaweed chips just do not work well this the rest of the menu. They should serve bread.
Commonwealth is just EXCELLENT.
Was very nice - quality food. They offered the best salt and vinegar crisps (chips for the americans) that i've ever had. Would go back, but it closed down :(
It’s my 5th time here and its still as amazing as the first time. Creative, delicious and such a memorable experience.
Thank you to the superb culinary team, to depth of knowledge of the sommeliers and impeccable service from the servers.
Service was amazing. Tables are a bit too close together. We got the tasting menu but had to replace the seafood dishes due to allergies. None were replaced with meat dishes which was underwhelming. Food was really good but wished they replaced a seafood dish with a meat dish. Left still feeling a bit hungry!
Great tasting menu. It was our anniversary and the server brought us free glasses of champagne!
The service was very good, the food was beautifully served but the quality and taste were average at best and somewhat pretentious. Too much reliance on foams and the like, which is somewhat dated! Portions were very small. My dessert was not bigger than a large coin and twice as thick as a coin - one mouthful!
This is an insiders San Francisco restaurant with $100 tasting menu worth $300 at other places. The beet tartare and tongue and shrimp were the best ever. We also had several delicious amuse bouche. They even have a parking lot. They are hidden away on Mission near 18th a few doors down from Mission Chinese. They were careful about my guests gluten intolerance. The staff were both knowledgeable and friendly. The guests appeared to be SFfoodies about 1/3 Chinese Americans. This was my 6th visit. You may order tasting menu for whole table or alacarte
