Wonderful food. That alone made it great. The Naan bread servings were the smallest we've ever had. Our wine was great, but our waiter was either inattentive or just new. BL: food was good
We came for dinner at the recommendation of our hotel and it was so delicious that on our last day we made sure to leave time for the weekend buffet! Over the top yuminess and great service.
The location and ambiance were nice. However the variety of items in the buffet and the quality was not all that great. I've been to much nicer Indian restaurants where they have more variety and better food quality.
We had a reservation for 7:15. We waited 35 min to be seated. We were just about to leave. I ordered curry chicken but got a lamb dish. Which I did not like. Very tough and gamey. Two servers assured me that i was mistaken. Finally the owner (I presume) came to tell me that it was a lamb dish. He took it off the check which was nice of him.
Lovely decor, staff was nice but they have significant problems that they need to overcome. I’m not rushing back.
The restaurant is beautifully decorated and staff are very friendly. The food was very good but it took a little longer than expected for it to be served. Some of the entrees were more pureed than I would like but still good. We didn't receive our pappadom which was disappointing. The naan bread is a bit overpriced and should just be served with your meal. The salad that comes with your meal could be more seasoned.
Great food and service!
Way too expensive. You wont get value for your money if you go for Dinner. I recommend this place only for its lunch buffet on weekdays and weekends.
The best Indian that I've had in Washington in recent memory. Really a great meal.
Commonwealth is a breath of fresh air for Indian cuisine in the DC Metro area. A modern menu, with some classics thrown in for good measure. A pleasant atmosphere that is inviting (even for a 5 year old) and elegant. Strongly recommend!
Excellent food served in a relaxing atmosphere. My new favorite local spot for Indian food.
Nice place; quite loud so hard to have conversation; food was good
Amazing food, GREAT service (with recommendations), and beautiful backdrop/ambiance. I cannot WAIT to go back again.
The appetizers were really good. One of us got the crab with yellow curry entree and that was really good. Two of us got a lamb dish, they were supposed to be different dishes but looked the same. The lamb was a little tough and the dish not that flavorful. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought out a very nice desert with candle. The service was excellent. Prices higher than most Indian restaurants
Delicious food in a lovely setting with attentive staff. All dishes and drinks we tried were good, but the Yellow Crab Curry gets a special shout-out.
Pleasant atmosphere and good foods
Great value for weekday lunch buffet. Quality food, nice variety, not too spicy, which was perfect for my taste
Great find! Pays to check the "New to Open Table" section occasionally. Beautiful restaurant with a an excellent menu and great service. Food is great!
Excellent food and service. If the prices were more on par with other similar Indian restaurants in the area we’d be back a lot.
The food was excellent and flavorful. The service was fast; they were able to take multiple credit cards so it's ideal for a large work group like I had. I would definitely recommend.
The yellow crab curry is a revelation. Excellent food top to bottom.
Great meal with friends, delicious entrees. Prices a little higher than many local Indian restaurants, but worth it.
We chose the restaurant & our food selections informed by the Washington Post Magazine review. The restaurant is an unusual boon to the visual palate. Service, by one of the most diverse wait staff I've ever seen, was outstanding. The food flavors blended, teased and erupted into a symphony on the tongue: the white asparagus bisque, chettinad murgh (chicken) , rampuri korma (lamb chops) and bindhi masala were well-tuned instruments!
Lovely restaurant; very quiet by today's standards; excellent service; good food; fine value
Really lovely experience and food defonitely worth the wait.
Very happy to have this lovely Indian Restaurant with very good food come to the neighborhood. The staff is attentive and the food is Good! Also able to assist when one person has allergies to offer substitutes. Third visit and will be back soon.
Fantastic food, great dining experience. A must try.
Our waiter, Youness, was fantastic. We had many questions patiently explained everything and took very good care of us without being overbearing. Shrimp appetizer excellent as were the lamb chops. We will definitely return!
It was decent, although more expensive than other places for the weekend buffet. Probably better to have come on weekday. Food was okay. Salmon curry was bland. Not sure if salmon was salmon, didnt taste like salmon. Butter chicken was good but thicker than needed. Tandoori chicken was more like baked chicken and very soft. Do not think any type of tandoor was used so should have been at least broiled at some point to have the outside texture but there wasnt any. Flavor was okay. Everything or something had to much masala. There are cheaper and either better or same quality options in the area albeit without the ambiance.
Excellent weekend buffet. The only thing that could have been better is Butter chicken (the meat was chewy)
The weekday buffet, especially the vegetarian dishes, was shockingly bland for a restaurant this well reviewed. Huge, huge let down. Never coming back here, and will not recommend to friends either.
The food was wonderful, as was the service. It had a very nice ambiance! I can’t wait to go back. We loved the crab curry!
