Great outdoor drinking and dining and very socially distant
Unfortunately, the Biergarten only had one item on the menu, a burger. It was tasty, but greasy and the whole rooftop smelled of burger grease. I know it has to very difficult with the pandemic to properly plan, but I wish the days menu could have been posted online. I was hoping for a chicken pot pie which the online menu said was available.
Our server was awesome and super nice!
Great place. Great views. Greats drinks. Great food.
Unfortunately we couldn’t have dinner on the rooftop so we had dinner in the Commoner inside. Our smash burger was EXCELLENT! Unfortunately, our only option as a side was a bag of chips. Not worth the $16 per entree we paid. The limited menu was not the same as what was listed online and that was very frustrating.
Honestly, the good burger and good service saved the night.
The staff upon entry was very rude. He would not help assist us with ordering from the online menu. Will not be returning.
This place has the best drinks and I love the giant pretzel!
Good time! Beautiful views
1 burger was cold, had to be redone while everyone else finished. Another burger was warm, not hot. Rest of meals were okay. Server kept taking partial orders then leaving, rather than taking everyone’s orders.
Overall food was barely okay. Considering experience, very overpriced. Would never eat there again
Food was outstanding. Vegan menu limited
This was a great find. Fantastic service and solid Bar! I highly recommend if you are in Pittsburgh for business.
The food was very good. The decriptions in the menu didn't do the meal justice. A little pricey, but it's a hotel restaurant. Service was excellent.
I was very disappointed in my meal. The potatoes were amazing, but the chicken was bland. Quite costly. Our waiter was amazing though.
Best restaurant in Pittsburgh for a casual meal!
Bring back the commoner burger for lunch. The 2nd best burger is not the answer.
Great food and great service! Will certainly be back for brunch.
Went for the amazing bloody mary bar but they shut it down permanently 2 weeks ago. We were disappointed, although the bloody mary’s on the regular menu were good. Food was good not great. Server was good.
Cocktail and wine selection is impressive and innovative. The space is beautiful and comfortable. Nice crowd and overall good experience. I’ll be back.
Dinner on 2/28/2020 was good but portions small for the price. We advised the server we have tickets to a show and needed to be out but 7:15pm, so he did serve us quickly. Cocktails and wine are pricey.
Had brunch there on 2/29/2020 and it was good, Plain Bloody Mary was too spicy. Husband loved their burger.
Had brunch there on 3/1/2020 with our couple from Friday night- the Eggs Benedict were over cooked, both men's waffles were cold- the butter would not melt on them but my Yinz breakfast was pretty- good but the potatoes were a tad cold. Staff did not check back after serving to see if there was any problems. When we left the hotel, the bellman did tell us they have a new chef. the chef needs to learn how to do poached eggs.
Food choices were slim and what was there was only ok
I love The Commoner, but this was not my favorite experience. My guests said their dishes were good, but I got the Mac n Cheese, which I have had before, and it was not nearly as rich or creamy as my first time having it. It was amazing the first time, so I was pretty disappointed when it was not the same. We also got the bread pudding for dessert, which again we have had before but were slightly disaspointed this time. It was not as warm and gooey as I remembered it. It was more cake-y. Also, the wait is always somewhat long for food but it's not a big deal when you have goof company.
The challenge here is service. The food is good, actually quite good. The problem is that the service just isn’t there. We saw a waiter to take our order and then again to bring the check. Food runnersBrought the food before we could even get drinks. We saw the manager more than we saw our waiter. For these kinds of prices in this popular restaurant, that’s just not acceptable.
What a terrible experience. We had reservations at 7:15. We ordered 2 cheeseburgers and a Mac and cheese for our son. Our beet appetizer(which we did receive) was okay. But after an additional hour our server said our meals were coming up soon. 30 minutes later and no burgers or Mac and cheese we had to leave to get to our concert. The manager “Diane” offered to pack it up or come in for a free meal but it was obvious they lost our ticket and our server. Never again. Get it together guys!
We had to sit very close to the table next to us and the food came out cold. We both got the chicken dinner.
I was really disappointed in the menu. Apparently they changed chefs. Really over priced for what you get. Food was pretty salty. Ambiance and service were good.
Very good food, nice atmosphere, great beer selection!
Burger was fantastic... Service not impressed.
The Commoner is our favorite restaurant, no questions, in Pittsburgh. Overall dining experience is outstanding and has been with each reservation.
Great place downtown for group lunch if the weather is bad, everything taste great but on the higher side for lunch.
We love going to The Commoner whenever we are in Pittsburgh. They have fantastic cocktails and a good wine selection, and GREAT desserts! We had dinner, which is always yummy but I do have one complaint. I really wanted to order the The Commoner Burger, however the server told me it is only served one temp, medium rare/medium. I declined and order something else but the other 3 people at my table got the The Commoner Burger and all of them were severed medium well/well. I'm not sure if that's common or if it was just busy that night but it was disappointing because it was cooked exactly as I would have wanted it! Anyway, it's a fantastic place to eat, however if you're thinking about the special burger - get it!
Limited menu. Burgers were good
We will not be going back. We were there in the fall and enjoyed the staff, the menu and the food. Sadly, the menu and food quality has decreased significantly. Maybe it was an off night, but I had a difficult time finding a meal choice as a GFDF costumer. I ended up with a salad and chicken breast - the food was fine, but certainly not worth the money.
Great service, good was excellent and drinks were tasty! Love coming here for brunch.... would 10/10 recommend
We usually like their “regular menus” for dinner and brunch.
My husband and I tried their Valentine’s Day special course menu and it was very disappointing. The steak was cold and smelled. The fondue came with only couple pieces of apples and grapes, biscuits and very tiny pieces of meat. Overall, It was definitely not worth $55 course menu. I wish we had their regular dinner menu instead.
The food was great, the service was good, and I liked I could take my young kids there.
Good food beautiful restaurant fairly priced. Nice to finally have a upscale restaurant in the city for breakfast.
Excellent food. We had been there previously and the food was good but this was much better. The steak was perfect and very flavorful. It also came with a side of creamy mashed potatoes which were excellent. This chief has only been there approximately 3 months. My husband got a plain burger which he said was the second best that he has ever had. The fries were also delicious. We definitely will be back and i hope the steak is still on the menu. We also got the marshmallow ice cream sundae which was marshmallow ice cream with a salt dark chocolate sauce which was very good but very rich - we shared it. I wouldn’t have been able to eat the whole thing by myself bc it’s sooooo rich.
We went for our anniversary, and were pleasantly surprised and pleased with how fantastic our experience was. Highly likely to come back!
Adjectives to describe this visit include underwhelming, mediocre, and forgettable. Nothing on the menu stood out, so I went with the chicken pot pie. It looked very good, but when I tried to puncture the pastry, expecting it to be swallowed up in the pot pie goop underneath, it didn’t budge. After some prodding and poking, the whole thing lifted up like a manhole cover, and what lurked down under was none too impressive. No comparison to the pot pies that have come out of my mother’s kitchen.
It was great. Food was solid just a tad pricey for brunch but still good
