Sorry to see you go! Always a destination with out-of-town guests!
Absolutely love comfort. So sad that it will be closing.
I got the trout, roasted carrots and roasted beets. My food was cold and the portions very skimpy. My daughter got the fried catfish and there was much more breading then fish. Had heard the quality had gone down and I saw for myself. Not sure if cause their closing at the end of the month. Honestly it wasn’t inexpensive and I was very disappointed.
I moved to RVA in 2004 and Comfort was one of the first restaurants that I went to. I've shared many great meals, drinks, conversations and laughs at this place. It's much more than a restaurant. They are closing at the end of January 2020. If you are in the area and haven't shared a meal here, then visit before the end of the month. Trust me. It's worth every penny.
An old favorite that will be badly missed. The food was not hot this time and the steak a little tough - but the veggies were great.
I wanted to get one last meal in before they shut the doors. I will miss this restaurant a lot, it never disappoints.
So sad to see it end, but have loved every meal! Best to all for the future!
You will be missed. Thank you for everything. We have had many special evenings at comfort.
I can’t believe it’s the last time i’ll ever eat at this amazing place again. Comfort, you will truly be missed!! Someone release that banana pudding creme brûlée recipe!!
As usual, a great meal. So sorry to see them leave!
Love the atmosphere and food is great! Their giving spirit just adds to the experience.
On a night we needed comfort food we found it at Comfort.
We arrived and we’re promptly seated in a nice space up front in a nook by the window I had a nice greeting by our waitress and drinks followed small plates included the country Caesar salad and the country ham toast. We enjoyed the catfish and the meatloaf entrees, with mashed potatoes mac & cheese black eyed pea‘s and turnip greens all flavors took us back to our childhoods when these things were cooked up in South Hill or Amelia Virginia.
Didn’t like the menu at all. Needed a better selection. Meatloaf was ok. Drink was horrible. Won’t be going back.
Service and food were excellent. We would definitely return.
Fabulous steak and squash casserole. Try it... you will be glad you did.
A tasty, locally-sourced dining experience. Good food. Tad noisy when full. See if you can get a booth.
Great food. Excellent server (Sarah).
We were having dinner before seeing Hamilton at Altria. We had our two teenage sons with us and we all enjoyed our meal. The food was delicious and the service was fast. It was the perfect place to eat before a show, especially if you have hungry boys.
Comfort is a classic richmond spot for my husband and I. LOVE the pimento cheese appetizer! Food is great. Staff is friendly. Love the Dolly Parton bathroom decor!
The specialty cocktails are well done! The fried green tomatoes are GREAT! For entree’, I had the veggie platter of 4 sides. The beets were outstanding, the squash casserole is nice and cheesy, the broccolini was a little undercooked and could have used garlic, and the fourth I don’t remember. Others had the chicken rice stew which was very good and the sirloin steak which was cooked properly and good but not great. The Caesar salad was excellent. Wines were terrible but this is probably not the place to order wine (Sauv Blanc and Pinot Noir). Should
Have had a beer where the selection is very good. Service was Fabulous.
We visited Comfort after an afternoon at the theater. We were surprised because the inside of the restaurant seemed very run down. We decided to try it anyway and were very pleased with the food. If you go, make sure to take a sweater, the seating is rather drafty. We had the acorn squash soup and the pork loin entree. Some of the most tasty mashed potatoes ever. The fried okra was good too. They are definitely focused on making great food. Service was slow but we didn't mind. We will definitely go back but may wait for the a warmer day.
Definitely someplace for the younger crowd, as we had difficulty carrying on a conversation with others in our party.
However, the food was awesome.
Willgobackagain, albeit during a quieter time - if there is one.
Food was fantastic. Get the Mac and Cheese side! The only thing keeping me from a 5 star rating was their kids menu was lacking.
This use to be one of my favorite restaurants . Not so much anymore . The hostess sat us in the coldest spot in the restaurant and I had to keep my coat on the entire time . Being freezing while eating ruined the experience . And I had made a note on the reservation , that it was my birthday dinner
In town for my daughter’s marathon. I thought the food and staff was amazing. A must try for real southern food!
Fantastic as always. We’ve never had a bad meal at Comfort.
Just as the name implies, the restaurant specializes in upscale comfort food. Our food came to the table hot, and our server was attentive to our needs. There is nothing fancy about the decor, but the ambiance suits the menu nicely. That being said, the menu is a bit pricy for what is served, but we like it there.
Comfort is a wonderful option for anyone visiting Richmond that wants delicious Southern food in a hip, trendy environment. We went after getting drinks at the Jefferson Hotel, just two blocks away! Loved all of the sides and the appetizers, especially the beets, seasonal carrots, grits, mac and cheese. Also - the profits go to a local food nonprofit, sealing the deal on this place.
We had a great meal. The fried okra, carrots and catfish were outstanding. Everything else including the cocktails was very good. The only complaint was that there was a loud, large group in the same area. There was nothing the restaurant could do but it was a little bothersome. I highly recommend the restaurant.
Food was ok, but we wouldn’t go back.
Besides the lack of service, where our waters weren’t filled for a long time, our food was overly salted. From my main entree, where I couldn’t finish my steak because it was so salty, to our fried green tomatoes which we also couldn’t finish due to the salt.
If I’m paying $26 dollars for a steak, and I can’t stand to finish it, and I don’t even have water to help wash it down, then that’s a super big bummer.
I think next time I’ll skip it and hit up Lunch & Supper instead.
Visited comfort before seeing a show at Virginia Rep. Our out of town company loved it so much. Delicious food, great service.
The food at Comfort meets the definition of comfort food. Restaurant brings the best of home cooking to a modern experience. Noise level fairly high. Seating is a bit cheek to jowl (for Richmond VA standards, spacious by NYC standards). Staff are friendly.
Comfort is appropriately named! This is comfort food done right. I received excellent recommendations from my server. I love pimento cheese and very much enjoyed that from the appetizer menu. The squash soup on their specials menu was the best I've ever had. It was uniquely prepared and incredibly flavorful. And the meatloaf with mushrooms and wine gravy sauce was fantastic. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant.
Delicious food. Loud restaurant though.
Good food, chef was wonderful explaining the plates to our friends in Spanish, great experience...
It was ok.n es update
Food was great but the waitress seemed as if she would rather be somewhere else
Expected more. Prices are steep and food was mediocre at best.
We love Comfort. Took OOT visitor before going to November Theatre. Our only disappointment was that Jason was in the house and had posted on his instagram that he would be there, however he did not step out of the kitchen while we were there to say hello to his guests. We would have liked to have met him as we are big fans.
Great view, nice deck and beach, comfy beds, breakfast could use more variety. Our dog had a great time, he is still trying to figure out the elevator. Doors close, they open again and you are somewhere else!
