Nested in Uphams Corner, Dorchester, we're a lively and intimate 30-seat restaurant serving brunch on the weekend and dinner at night with a full bar and outdoor patio. Our food is a celebration of the ingredients and flavors of the diaspora connected from Asia to the Americas — global comfort food. We are proudly Black-owned, immigrant-owned, and women-owned. We believe that food is a vital aspect of community building and we envision a place that is actively engaged in highlighting the culture, art, and history of our community.

- Patio dining: patio reservations are weather-dependent and may be canceled due to inclement weather. Our patios are partially covered protecting from light to moderate rain and light wind.

- Timing: dinner's last seating is at 8:45pm and brunch's last seating is at 1:30pm. Your table is reserved for 90 mins for parties of 1-5 guests and 2 hrs for parties of 6+ guests.

From the OpenTable editors: This Dorchester gem's cross-cultural menu is unlike anything else in the region, and that's why it's already earned a five-star review in the Boston Globe and been named Boston Magazine's best new restaurant in 2023. The restaurant, led by managing partner Biplaw Rai, is a nod to the rich contributions of immigrants to this country. Dishes embrace the ingredients and flavors of the African diaspora, which means you'll find West African-style suya beef with caramelized onions and spicy Ghanian plantain preparation kelewele. Get in on the celebrations in the light and airy dining room or the greenery-lined patio in the back, all part of what was once a historic rest station in Upham's Corner.

Comfort Kitchen has a lot of potential, and we truly enjoyed many aspects of our visit. The food and drinks were outstanding—creative, flavorful, and clearly made with care. That said, our overall experience left room for improvement, particularly around service and hospitality. We had made a reservation for four and noted that we’d have a baby and stroller with us, as well as that we were celebrating a birthday. When we arrived, we were told we’d need to sit outside because of space constraints with the stroller. It was only after some discussion that we were offered a larger table inside. While we appreciated the eventual accommodation, it would’ve made a big difference to feel welcomed from the start—especially since we gave advance notice. Throughout the meal, we were frequently reminded of the 90-minute table limit, which made the experience feel more rushed than relaxed. Interestingly, when we asked for the dessert menu around the 1 hour and 40-minute mark, there was no follow-up for several minutes, and eventually we were brought the check instead. When we asked again about dessert, we were initially told our time was up—but after expressing that it was a birthday celebration, the team kindly made an exception. We’re grateful that they ultimately allowed us to stay for dessert, but it would’ve meant more if the process had felt smoother and more guest-centered from the start. Comfort Kitchen is clearly doing a lot right in the kitchen, and with a bit more focus on communication, flexibility, and the guest experience, it could easily become one of Boston’s standout dining spots—especially with Michelin interest growing in the city. We’re hopeful they continue to grow and refine, and we’d be open to returning in the future if improvements are made.

One of the best meals ever! The decor is basic, plain, nondescipt. The food is the complete opposite! Fantastic flavors, surprising, I didn’t want the foods to stop coming out of the kitchen! I had the jerk duck, the eggplant with tahini, the brown butter okra, and the fruit compote dessert. OMG. Every bite was delicious. I loved putting the pickled veggies and the savory rice on my fork together with the duck! The eggplant and tahini tasted so wonderful. The okra? Beautifully cooked, and I asked for a spoon so I could enjoy all the liquid. And I wolfed down the dessert. Brought leftovers home! A second bite at the apple of deliciousness awaits me.

Our reservation was for 2 at 5:30 on a Wednesday night. The food and people were excellent. However, the policy of 90 minutes for dinner was a bit restrictive for us. They moved us to a new table from sitting at the bar to accommodate another party. From there, we were reminded at least twice of what our departure would need to be. This may not be the right spot if you’d like to have an extended dinner to catch up with friends.

Great food in a neighborhood setting. I llearned that the gin-based cocktail I had was delicious on its own but spread the spicy food heat around my mouth 😀 Lesson learned, will know that for the next time we go.
