We had dinner for Thanksgiving at the Colombo restaurant. There were other seatings prior to our arrival. The food was picked over not fresh and we were sorely disappointed. The oysters were completely dry and we had to wait over 20 minutes to get any. The cheese trays were bare. They ran out of ham and turkey halfway through our meal. Canned green beans and corn were available. Yuck. The only good thing about the whole meal was the dressing. They ran out of desserts in the whole Buffet just didn’t look clean. The service was OK.The restaurant had about 50% occupancy. There’s just no excuse for running out of food and serving bad food at $40 plus a plate. The server overcharged us On four meals. We had to wait over 20 minutes to get our next check in when I got home she also had charged me for a child’s meal that was three years old. Next time I’ll cook my own.
We ate here for their Thanksgiving buffet. I could not give a five star recommendation because they were so short staffed and some few things slid by. The cooks, servers and waiters and waitresses were exceptional trying hard to give everyone a memorable day. My husband and I didn't mind a wait. We loved that MS. Jean at the desk remembered our name and the employees who ran the breakfast buffet remembered us as well.
I will go back. No question about it!
As usual the food was very good and the price was reasonable. However, it took and unusually long time to get seated for our 1:30 sitting. Plenty of open tables, but very slow movement at the front desk outside of the ballroom.
I don't believe that our table even had a waitperson assigned to it. No waitperson every approached. A supervisor type person first greeted us and offered drinks, but after that we had to wave down 3 different waitpersons to get any attention. In fact, we had to wait an extraordinary amount of time just to get our bill.
I realize that this is a buffet and that the customer gets up and gets their own food. However, we had no attention from any waitperson for coffee refills. In fact, our used plates were removed by people that were serving other tables, not ours.
While I understand how a buffet works and I certainly appreciate the hard work of waitstaff including those assigned to the main table food distribution, Columbo's shouldn't automatically charge a 22% gratuity unless they ensure that all tables (even those with only 2 people) get a dedicated waitperson.
Despite these negative comments, I will return for a future brunch as the food is always good and special meals like this are all about the food.
I will place this establishment on the top of my list for next Thanksgiving, the best!
Very pricey for limited fare. No beef of any kind was offered when in years past they had a prime rib or standing beef roast at the carving station. Salads were just assorted standard ingredients. No chicken , tuna salad or smoked salmon as previously served. The carved turkey was just a boneless turkey loaf as was the ham. Desserts were ok but limited to just a few pies and cakes. We have eaten at this buffet for special occasions for years and this was the most disappointing. Request for a cup of coffee took forever to get and was served in a to go cup as if they had to go to lobby and get it from the guest coffee bar. For 42.00 per person, even for a twelve year old who only eats seafood, no meat, this was highly overpriced even with todays high cost of food. We will definitely rethink our loyalty to Doubletree next occasion.
We truly enjoyed the Thanksgiving buffet. We loved the setup and the staff were awesome and inviting.
Terrible and this was 1 of our faves. Limited menus. Didn’t have any of the appetizers we like. Only had salads burgers and wings. States didn’t get their supply of food in. Should let people know when reservations are made.
The staff was great. Appeared to work together a lot. Everyone knew what they were supposed to do and did it. Food was quite good.
I had made reservations for the Easter Buffet. I called Colombo's to verify my reservation and I was told everything was good. My family and I arrived at Colombo's Easter Buffett shortly before 2 PM. As soon as we walked in we were asked very rudely if we had a reservation. I said yes and showed the man my email confirmation. He said he checked all the reservations that morning and did not see our name. He looked at my confirmation and loudly announced I did not make my reservations for the Easter Buffet but for Colombo's restaurant. No help, no nothing. So, we left. I googled Colombo's while walking to the car. Colombo's didn't open until 5 PM. Why was I told my reservations were good when I called Colombo's? Why was I not notified that the restaurant I made reservations for would not be open for my 2 PM reservation. This was a terrible experience. It was Easter Sunday and we had nowhere to go! I am very disappointed in how we were talked to at the restaurant and no one tried to accommodate us or apologize.
We went for Easter brunch. They did not hold it in restaurant but in a conference room in the back of the hotel you needed to hike too. There were no decorations. A scary Easter Bunny in Air Jordans walking around. I felt like I was in the cafeteria of a nursing home. It had been advertised as a big spread with lots of options. It was a few options spread out. They were serving the buffet because of Covid and were very stingy. They only would let me have 1 deviled egg at a time. The waffle/omelet guy saved me from walking out but the food was maybe worth the $20 you pay at Golden Coral not $42/pp.
Easter Lunch was not in Columbo’s Restaurant as advertised, it was located in the large conference room where my family was all seated 6 feet apart from one another. There were no high chairs (blows my mind) so my 2 year old ran around and our lunch was absolutely miserable. The only drinks provided are tea, water & juice. We spent $125 and the food was not great. Save your money and eat at home.
The best fried green tomatoes ever. Steak was good. Hamburger was good. Ran out of tiramisu which was disappointing. We’ll be back
Reserved dinner here for Valentine's Day. Complete disaster! We were sat at our table and given an extremely limited menu that we had to choose from. We asked for a regular menu and was told that because so many people had booked reservations that they were only offering select items. This was not mentioned anywhere prior to our booking. So, at that point it still wasn't a big deal, but we didn't like the options on the menu we were given so we decided to just have a few drinks instead. Enter the couple beside us. When they were sat, the guy that sat them (we would later learn that this was the general manager) gave them a different menu! Then, another lady approached the bar and returned an order of wings (not on the menu we were given). Obviously, this didn't sit well with us. We didn't want to make it an issue, so we decided to place an online order for food off of the regular menu and when our food came we would take it and leave. So, we placed an order through GrubHub that was confirmed. We waited for our order and received a confirmation e-mail that it was ready. I went up to the bar to collect my order and was told by the bartender that they do not do online orders. Needless to say we were pretty upset by this news. We then spoke to the General Manager that told us that they do not except orders through GrubHub after we had placed our order, paid for our order, and waited for our order. In an attempt to make it "right" they offered us the....wait for it....original menu. You know, the one we asked for two hours earlier. The menu that we witnessed two other orders from. So, I do not recommend just on principle alone. We will not be back! Oh, the food might be good, I wouldn't know!
We went for lunch because of it being a SC restaurant week special. For $13.95, we got a salad, entree and dessert. The price was incredible and so was the food. I ordered the prime rib sandwich which came with lettuce, fried tomatoes and a spicy garlic sauce. It was incredibly delicious and I had them put the fried green tomato and sauce on the side. Amazingly the fried green tomato was not greasy at all and the sauce had a little kick to it. They both complemented the sandwich well. We also ordered a ravioli pasta dish that consisted of butternut squash. This wouldn't normally be my wife's first choice for a vegetable but she said it was very good as was the sauce they used. We both started the meal with the summer salad which had strawberries, pecans, and a cheese which I believe was blue cheese. It was very fresh and a good starter size portion. My kid ordered the children's burger, smiley fries (which actually was a smiley face), apple sauce, and milk. For once he ate most of his meal so for me that is a seal of approval! The desserts that came with our restaurant week meal was a choice from 3. We chose the cheesecake, which was topped with blueberries, and the lemon layer cake. Both were very good and I am not a fan usually of lemon cakes but this one was very light with what appeared to be a homemade whipped cream on the side with strawberry. We were very pleased with the meal, the price and the service. This restaurant is inside of the Doubletree and its not the easiest hotel to figure out how to access. However if you can find it, this restaurant is well worth it. We have tried their breakfast, lunch and dinner. If they bring back their breakfast buffet we will certainly be joining for that! The food is always delicious!
It was the beginning of restaurant week and they were out of a lot of things. Even something as small as limes. They were also short staffed but the waiter we had was also the bartender and he running around doing the best he could. He did an amazing job.
Good food, nice ambiance.
Great choice! Will be returning soon!
