Colt & Gray Ratings and Reviews
We had a fantastic Valentine’s date at Colt & Gray! The food was prepared and presented nicely. We ordered the steak to share and had two sides; ratatouille and potatoes. Everything was seriously fantastic. The drinks were also good; well made. The dessert, potted cheesecake, was more like pudding but was still tasty. Overall it was a great way to spend Valentine’s. We will definitely be returning.
First, the waitress was not friendly at all, especially after we told her we didn’t wanna have any alcohol but food and water, her attitude got worse. We ordered some fresh oysters and lamb tartare for appetizers and they were great. But then our entrees were pretty bad, we did not enjoy at all, we tried to finish just to respect and because we had to pay for it anyway . And not to mention the people in the kitchen were yelling the whole time when it’s a quiet & romantic place. Anyway, it might be an enjoyable place for some other people but definitely not for us, we would never come back.
Food was very good, service was poor. The server didn’t pay attention to our table. She forgot to put in an order and pretended to be knowledgeable about wine. The wine choice was extremely poor but they did take 50% off the bottle. The dessert was the best part. Will probably not go back.
Music was Wayyyy to loud ! And music was groups like Queen and Aerosmith! NOT appropriate at all. Fish I had was so dry I almost couldn’t eat it. The bar made my cocktail Incorrectly so that had to be sent back and remade. I go to several high-end restaurants all over Denver New York LA Chicago and this is a big disappointment I will not be back to Colt and Gray
Very disappointed in the service. Table was not ready at time of the reservation. 45 minutes after being seated and ordering our drinks did our bottle of wine arrive. Waiter was completely clueless about menu offerings. Charcuterie plate was one of the worst I've ever had (and I've had a lot). Main entrees were just okay. Don't waste your time or money.
We had an early dinner on Saturday, 1/27. Everything was excellent. Only small issue was our server forgot our oysters (which he was very cool about and apologized and got them out quickly) and our entrees came out right on top of them which was slightly disappointing. Loved the food, beverages, service and ambiance. We will return next time we are in Denver.
Came for a birthday dinner and did not disappoint! We were seated in a cormer table which helped feel cozy. The duck was a great main course and the grilled artichoke was an excellent appetizer. Clams and octopus were tasty but a little heavy on the white beans, so felt a little overpriced. That would be Our only downside, very minor. Our server was helpful with recommendations and the cheesecake dessert was great also.
We went to Colt & Gray for NYE. It was delightful. The food was well presented and delicious. The lobster was a little soft, but the lamb and steak were the best I've ever tasted. We had some confusion with the reservation, but I suppose that was because it was NYE. It was nice to have the $70 tasting menu, as well as the opportunity to order from several choices on the menu. The tables are far enough apart in the room we were in that it made it easy to talk -- and even sing at the end of the night. We left at 12:30am -- fun night.
Even though it was a busy evening and it looked like all of the seats were filled, service was excellent and the meal unhurried. The named cocktails at Colt & Gray continue to be excellent: just different enough to be catchy, nothing to frighten off anyone.
Tried this place for the first time for our annual family Christmas dinner out.
Service was atrocious. Incredibly slow.
Waiter could not remember half of the items ordered, had to ask for items 2-3 times.
Totally missed some items, then charged us for it - later corrected the charge error as we no longer wanted the items.
Table next to us experienced the same level of service, from the same server.
Tip reflected service.
Sat at bar for 15 minutes before our table as we arrived early.
Service not any better there.
Sat by fireplace for 10 minutes before an acknowledgement of our existence, then no one ever came for an order before we took our dinner table.
And the place wasn't that busy !!
Food was good, ambiance was nice.
Not likely to go back.
Too many other restaurants in town that actually cater to customer service.
Honestly the service was slow it took almost an hour to get service. The food, every single dish, was bland. Whether it was duck, steak, beats, potatoes- bland. For that price everything should be delectable. I can forgive certain flops as not everyone knows how to properly season and/or cook certain things, but literally every dish was sub par.
The overall service warrants a downgrade of our usual praise, on this visit. Our waitress did an admirable job with the circumstances, but extremely slow bar service interfered with the overall pace of the meal, as did an out-of-stock wine substitution and an after-dinner drink mistake. We also waited 20 minutes after payment for return of cards, tip & signing.
The food itself was outstanding: concept, prep & presentation were up to standard, although the great variation in portion sizes can be a bit disconcerting, making some selections seem quite overpriced.
The featured "trotter" special was AMAZING!
Our dinner was delicious but our service was less than favorable. After being seated, it took some time before our waitress came to our table. She was knowledgeable but not very attentive and everything ordered, including a $100 bottle of wine, took forever to receive. She misplaced my credit card at the end of the meal and we had to wait until it was found.
This trip to Colt and Gray was very disappointing. The bar service has gotten very slow, we ordered cocktail food and it came before our drinks, we ordered a bottle of wine to breathe for dinner and some ordered a second drink which took so long we almost cancelled the round and we wish we had as the food came with the second round of drinks. 2 of the 4 appetizers had to be sent back because they were burnt and when they were re-fired they were missing some components I believe because they had burnt all those components and had none to serve with the dishes. Who is in the kitchen anyway and where is the quality control? Usually they have some wonderful chef's dishes but on Saturday evening @ 7:30 they were already out and were out of porterhouse as well leaving the only beef on the menu a Pave' steak which was a bit tough. We ordered cioppino in the past and it came with a starch on Saturday no starch just seafood in a cast iron pot barely filling for the price. We did get the opportunity to enjoy our wine with the main course. We asked for a pepper mill and the waiter threw a plastic pepper mill on to the table and we could not get it to work, no one noticed. One glass of wine took so long they said it would be complementary and the same for the burnt appetizers but when the bill came all were on the bill. How embarrassing it was to have to get up and ask that question of the server who knew nothing about it because he was not communicated to. This used to be a go to destination when visitors came to town-no longer sorry to say.
Two hours at the table and we only got our cheese plate and charcuterie. Had high hopes and they did not deliver. Service needs a huge upgrade. This night was very disappointing. We did not get the chance to order entrees. Other food orders were forgotten even when discussing with our server. Very frustrating.
always delightful experience with a staff that understands what it means to put the guest above all else. The menu is always loaded with surprisingly delicious entre items
and the staff has 6th sense as to know when you're involved in deep conversation and not to interrupt ....which is really great !
parking is sometimes tricky in the heavy construction area......but that's really not part of the equation when it comes to the top notch food and service this place offers
We went with our three sons (7, 4 and 2 months) and the staff did not even blink. Outstanding service by Adam: timely, friendly but not overly so: a good experience!
The food is great: my wife had the Colorado lamb and it was excellent, I had the pork chop and it was delicious though slightly undercooked (pork should be well done...)
Our food was not cooked to expectation. Duck undercooked and filet mingon was like charcoal and way over cooked. One side dish of beets was not brought with the meal. Blood orange was brought instead a strawberry daiquiri. Server was not familiar with menu items. Water took over 10 minutes at times to be refilled as it was my only beverage. For a birthday there was nothing to be remembered for trying a new place.
We came to Colt & Gray for our anniversary dinner. We were well taken care of from the moment we arrived. We were greeted promptly and warmly. This is a cheerful place with great people helping us. Our table was comfortable. The atmosphere was upscale but not pretentious. The service was outstanding. The only flaw was our waiter or the bar tender was not able to comprehend and deliver a simple mixed drink. However, that was corrected promptly with a smile. No imaginary excuse, just a simple apology. Genuine. I especially liked that all service people stopped by to check on us, not just our waiter. We saw the maitre 'd and the other service people throughout our evening and it made the experience more enjoyable. Our food was originally conceived and delicious. The dessert was regrettably sinful. All in all a memorable evening. We left feeling well taken care of and full of wonderful food.
Food was excellent, loved the atmosphere. Unfortunately the service was poor. We had a reservation at 8:30, waited around for 20 min until we were seated. Sat with nothing (including no water or much acknowledgment from anyone) for at least 10 minutes. Server was somewhat friendly however on 3 different occasions mentioned that she was bringing something and then never brought it. Once our entrees arrived, no one came to check on us to see if everything was alright or if we needed anything, and the next time we saw anyone was when we had to flag down our server to get our check. Sad that I am unlikely to recommend or return, as the food was great.
