Colt & Gray Ratings and Reviews
Honestly the service was slow it took almost an hour to get service. The food, every single dish, was bland. Whether it was duck, steak, beats, potatoes- bland. For that price everything should be delectable. I can forgive certain flops as not everyone knows how to properly season and/or cook certain things, but literally every dish was sub par.
This trip to Colt and Gray was very disappointing. The bar service has gotten very slow, we ordered cocktail food and it came before our drinks, we ordered a bottle of wine to breathe for dinner and some ordered a second drink which took so long we almost cancelled the round and we wish we had as the food came with the second round of drinks. 2 of the 4 appetizers had to be sent back because they were burnt and when they were re-fired they were missing some components I believe because they had burnt all those components and had none to serve with the dishes. Who is in the kitchen anyway and where is the quality control? Usually they have some wonderful chef's dishes but on Saturday evening @ 7:30 they were already out and were out of porterhouse as well leaving the only beef on the menu a Pave' steak which was a bit tough. We ordered cioppino in the past and it came with a starch on Saturday no starch just seafood in a cast iron pot barely filling for the price. We did get the opportunity to enjoy our wine with the main course. We asked for a pepper mill and the waiter threw a plastic pepper mill on to the table and we could not get it to work, no one noticed. One glass of wine took so long they said it would be complementary and the same for the burnt appetizers but when the bill came all were on the bill. How embarrassing it was to have to get up and ask that question of the server who knew nothing about it because he was not communicated to. This used to be a go to destination when visitors came to town-no longer sorry to say.
Two hours at the table and we only got our cheese plate and charcuterie. Had high hopes and they did not deliver. Service needs a huge upgrade. This night was very disappointing. We did not get the chance to order entrees. Other food orders were forgotten even when discussing with our server. Very frustrating.
always delightful experience with a staff that understands what it means to put the guest above all else. The menu is always loaded with surprisingly delicious entre items
and the staff has 6th sense as to know when you're involved in deep conversation and not to interrupt ....which is really great !
parking is sometimes tricky in the heavy construction area......but that's really not part of the equation when it comes to the top notch food and service this place offers
We went with our three sons (7, 4 and 2 months) and the staff did not even blink. Outstanding service by Adam: timely, friendly but not overly so: a good experience!
The food is great: my wife had the Colorado lamb and it was excellent, I had the pork chop and it was delicious though slightly undercooked (pork should be well done...)
Our food was not cooked to expectation. Duck undercooked and filet mingon was like charcoal and way over cooked. One side dish of beets was not brought with the meal. Blood orange was brought instead a strawberry daiquiri. Server was not familiar with menu items. Water took over 10 minutes at times to be refilled as it was my only beverage. For a birthday there was nothing to be remembered for trying a new place.
We came to Colt & Gray for our anniversary dinner. We were well taken care of from the moment we arrived. We were greeted promptly and warmly. This is a cheerful place with great people helping us. Our table was comfortable. The atmosphere was upscale but not pretentious. The service was outstanding. The only flaw was our waiter or the bar tender was not able to comprehend and deliver a simple mixed drink. However, that was corrected promptly with a smile. No imaginary excuse, just a simple apology. Genuine. I especially liked that all service people stopped by to check on us, not just our waiter. We saw the maitre 'd and the other service people throughout our evening and it made the experience more enjoyable. Our food was originally conceived and delicious. The dessert was regrettably sinful. All in all a memorable evening. We left feeling well taken care of and full of wonderful food.
Food was excellent, loved the atmosphere. Unfortunately the service was poor. We had a reservation at 8:30, waited around for 20 min until we were seated. Sat with nothing (including no water or much acknowledgment from anyone) for at least 10 minutes. Server was somewhat friendly however on 3 different occasions mentioned that she was bringing something and then never brought it. Once our entrees arrived, no one came to check on us to see if everything was alright or if we needed anything, and the next time we saw anyone was when we had to flag down our server to get our check. Sad that I am unlikely to recommend or return, as the food was great.
Colt and Gray is a sparkling wine that fancies itself to be champagne. Sure, its good but egotistical attitude from staff leaves a tacky aftertaste. We ended up sitting at the bar at 5:00 pm in a nearly empty restaurant as the staff was unable to figure out a thoughtful way to include a third person who had joined our two person party. What's worse, the staff did not even try to think about a way to accommodate our small party who already had a reservation.
Colt & Gray has become our traditional spot for anniversary dining (five or six in a row, I believe this was and, maybe, ten visits total), and we haven't been really disappointed yet. Creative cocktail offerings and menu choices, plus local ingredient sourcing and attentive...not hovering...service, have been our reason for returning. That is still valid, even though attentiveness of service slipped a bit this time & no acknowledgement of the occasion, even though it was included in reservation comments: a first. Presentations are beautifully done. Colorado lamb was perfectly prepared, although the portion was small and the blueberry mostarda was over-salted: briny to the point of totally masking any blueberry flavor. Sea bass was excellent and the featured French onion soup was nicely done.
Still a favorite, but maybe time to start a new tradition.
We've dined here twice in the past month, both special occasions. The first time the food and the service was very good, thus our return 3 weeks later. This second dining experience was difficult from the start: they had no reservation in their system even though it was confirmed the previous day and the open table app on my phone showed us as "now dining."
The waiter took our order and said the bread and butter would be right over. After some time we asked for the bread and butter and ...it was never served. Ordered soda for two and they had to go next door to get two cans. One diner had dietary restrictions and the very allergen that was specifically and clearly communicated, and that the waiter acknowledged, was a main ingredient in the "special" sauce that was placed on protein.
The waiter and manager comped that dish and two deserts. This was fair but the dining experience was extremely disappointing. The variability in service as noted in our experience and in some other reviews makes this a somewhat risky adventure.
My boyfriend and I made a reservation for a Friday night date. We were seated in the side room area, which lacked the ambiance we expected from Colt and Gray. It was a plain and not romantic. The food was good and nicely presented, but nothing we'd return for. The service was good. Overall under impressed. Might be a good venue for a larger group.
Food was delicious, but the service was not great. The waiter was not attentive, they sent our bread and butter after our main course arrived, and they did not prepare or ask for gluten free options for what we ordered, after I specified I was gluten free. To top it off, the bill was not correct and had to notify the waiter of the mistake. This is service I’d expect from a Chili’s, not a higher end restaurant like colt and gray.
I took my daughter and a friend for a celebratory dinner. They both enjoy trying different foods, so we asked our waiter Justin to plan a chef's (or server's) choice meal for us. We were so very thrilled with his choices!!! After our delicious craft cocktail (my first Sazerac), we started with charcuterie, next the lamb tartare and burrata. The lamb was delicious and the heirloom tomatoes were like none I'd ever tasted! Next was the homemade pasta (can't remember the name but butterly delicious. Our entree was the New York strip with string beans and side of decadent French fries. The beef melted in our mouths. We could've stopped there, but we came to Colt & Gray originally because I had seen they served sticky toffee pudding. It was well worth the trip, let alone our phenomenal gastronomic experience. Kudos to Justin and the staff! Sorry to say it was Justin's last night there. He was heading to Vail for the winter, hopefully we can find him there!
Our first time at this restaurant, as we live out of town. That's really too bad because this place would become part of a regular dining routine. Everything was done very well, service, food, drinks. Will be returning the next time we are in Denver. The noise level it pretty energetic but we would seated at a table in a corner and that made it a little more quiet for us. My husband and I shared house-cut bone-in porterhouse that was so flavorful and more than enough for the two of us. Apparently we got the only one that night. Our waiter told us you can call ahead to request that cut if you really want it. The green salad was simple but tasty and we had haricot verts and crispy rosemary potatoes, both delicious.
I have not been to Colt & Gray in about 8 years, but I am so glad I came back. We were very fortunate to have Benjamin as our server. This guy is outstanding in so many ways. The food was outstanding, but Benjamin made the evening. Thank you so much! We certainly will be back.
Colt & Gray was recommended to me by my boss as a place for adults where you can actually have an intimate conversation. She was right, but she left out that the wait staff is warm, welcoming and conversant, the food is creative and beautifully arranged, and the ambiance is upscale and modern without being cold and ostentatious. My date and I were there for three hours and never once did we feel rushed. Finally, I don't drink, and our server told me that they challenge their bartenders to come up with creative "mocktails" so people like me aren't left with only club-soda-and-lime kinda options. I had the Ginger and Mint drink and it was quite tasty and artistically presented. The menu prices are a bit steep for my everyday budget, but I will definitely make Colt & Gray my special occasion venue.
There were four of us in our group. We shared the two tomato appetizers and the went well together. One fresh and light, the other more savory. We had three meals between us. The chicken was wonderful, the filet was very nice and the NY strip was one of the best I've ever had and I've been to MANY places. Rarely take the time to write a review. This meal deserved the time. Awesome!!
