Colors Restaurant Detroit
The staff worked hard to make us happy. The food was delicious and there are vegan /vegetarian options, which is why I brought in the group of 8. People noticed the neighborhood is nicely landscaped and cleaned up. The area has a safe feel to it.
More for casual dinning than for dinning before a show or anything a bit more formal.
Casual atmosphere and simple menu with comfort food . Clean and uncluttered. Burger was good !
Walking in felt very weird. It looked like a very casual dining hall, but the food was great. The service took a long time and the food took 30 minutes after we ordered. The table next to us ordered around the same time and had finished their food by the time we got ours. They also had a limited menu and were out of 3 different items we wanted to order. Great tasting food but poor service and ambiance.
The restaurant was very clean, service was great, we enjoyed our dinner before going to the music hall to see Jersey Boys. We were also treated to some history of the building and the area by the very professional staff. Thank you for a great evening
The food was really good. The music was a bit loud.
Service was great. It was a Mother’s Day, we thought it would be a bit bustier. We had a great celebration.
This was my second visit to Colors. I really love the concept of using this as a training facility for the restaurant business. The location is great, walking distance to Detroit's sports venues. I will definitely come back.
We really enjoyed the restaurant. A little disappointed that the menu we saw online was not the menu that we were presented with at the restaurant. I guess they change it daily. But the food was delicious and the staff was polite and attentive. We will visit again when we're in the area. The vodka lemonades were delicious too.
Excellent Place! The girl singing was excellent and I am not fond of slow jazz/blues type music, but I would go to listen to her again! I would love to see more people support this restaurant!
Not a great experience at all! We had a reservation at 530pm. They only had 4 available entries to order from by 545pm. TWO containing shrimp, of which I'm allergic to. Needless to say we left! Was so looking forward to a great dining experience. I got none of it! VERY Disappointing!
What a great meal and service right before our night at the Detroit Opera House!
They closed before we got there
Great food - cool space - friendly service - live entertainment - a perfect dinner.
Great low key atmosphere, friendly service, unusual (for me) food: shrimp and grits?! It was amazing, I thought I hated grits. Bartender ran out of cherry liquor, so she infused it herself to help make a house specialty drink. Delicious! Location is perfect for dinner before a show at the Opera House.
I really enjoy my dinner so much I cant stop talking about it
We were warmly greeted at the door by the hostess and promptly seated for our 6pm reservations. No one came to the table to greet us nor give us water. It appeared the front end was grossly understaffed with only two servers, the hostess was even helping to serve customers. We tried waving a couple of times to attract a server's attention but it was obvious they were very busy and focused on their tasks. We left after 30 minutes to find another restaurant as we have an 8pm concert to attend.
I was looking forward to dining at this restaurant given the many favorable reviews. Looks like we may have visited on a bad night. There were 6 in our party and only one person enjoyed their meal, the gumbo. Otherwise, the steaks were over cooked, the shrimp and grits were cold and tasteless (no creativity in the recipe) and the Michigan salad, the low hanging fruit, was a miss.
Not sure if our server was BRAND new but when we asked her what was in one of the feature cocktails, her reply was “liquor”. Really?? When asked about two other feature cocktails she had to go to the bartender to ask. Servers should know these things especially for featured cocktails. The second time she left to ask the bartender, she didn’t return to the table for another 20 minutes which left half our party waiting to place their drinks while watching the other half drinking.
And don’t go to this establishment for any ambience. It is very basic. Think “church basement”.
I was also interested in visiting because of the non profit community efforts. So maybe my expectations were misplaced but still very disappointing.
My friends and I were looking forward to an evening out and were truly looking forward to Colors. I have never been so disappointed. The service was horrible, our food came out at all different times, we could never get our drinks, our server would disappear, the food was not very good and we will certainly never go back. We were frustrated and disheartened about the entire experience and I am one who NEVER writes anything like this.
Lots of space, very friendly personnel, good food-not exceptional but good, very quiet.
I've been wanting to try Colors for a while, and it was worth the visit, I'll definitely return, the food was very good and the service was terrific!
It was oddly empty for a Saturday night when we walked in, but we were immediately struck by beautiful vocal and music tones. Apparently the same duo will be playing there every Saturday night from 7-830 for the next few months. As far as the restaurant, our food was really good, especially the beef ribs. Their homemade BBQ sauce was outstanding. I was lucky enough to get in when they still had some catfish on the menu, which I ordered blackened. Very good, but the cornbread was even better. My only complaint about any of the dishes was the green beans which were disappointing. Other than that, we enjoyed our experience, and would gladly go back. I hope to see more of you the next time I am there.
The service was good, but I was very disappointed with the food. After an extremely long wait, our food came. My steak was way undercooked but I didn't have time to send it back because we had to make it to the theater. The manager did discount our bill for the inconvenience of the long wait, but it was still a very expensive dinner with mediocre food. The sweet potato fries were good and the green beans were tasty, but the rest was disappointing.
Food was very nice but we were disappointed that the menu was much different than shown on their website. We checked the menu before making our reservation because two of our party are vegetarians. When we arrived for dinner, neither of the vegetarian entrees were on the menu and no replacements were available. The food we ordered (only sides for the vegetarians) was nice so we were glad we stayed. Hopefully in the future, Colors will be more conscious of their vegetarian and vegan customers.
Our lunch was delicious, and service wonderful. Especially liked the fried grits!
Pleasantly surprised by this new restaurant. 4 of us were going to the Tiger's game, and were looking for a different restaurant around Comerica Park for lunch. I found Colors online. It had good reviews and lived up to our expectations. All the food was good, the wings, grits, Rueben sandwiches, chicken sandwiches. We would highly recommend this "find". It was a great lunch spot before the game, about 3 blocks away.
We LOVE Colors and will be back again and again! The food is delicious, especially the fried grits!! The drinks are nice and strong. Staff is friendly, outgoing, and very attentive! We look forward to many date nights at Colors in the future!
I had a great time and an excellent meal as always. The staff is always courteous and professional.
The food and service was amazing! I will definitely be back!
Went on a Thursday night around 8 pm. We were the only two customers in the restaurant. A half hour later 3 people came in and set at the bar. Not a good sign. We were looking for healthy food options, and there weren't many. The food we ordered was very salty, to the point that we didn't enjoy it. The service was fine, very polite and attentive. We won't return, as there are so many other restaurants in downtown Detroit that are much better.
Fabulous food and great staff! This place also was great at getting our food to us in a timely manner so we could make it on time to our show at the Detroit Opera House.
We stopped in before a show at the Opera House. The service was great and the food was as well! I would recommend this hide away to anyone visiting Detroit or anyone who has never been. We will return for sure!
We really enjoyed ourselves. It was very romantic for us, plus the food was good. The live music was out of sight. We bought the CD and it is continuously playing in the car. We will be back. and we have told other about the place. Thanks
excellent food; service was good but clearly part of the training...so it was for a good cause. music was excellent with Alan Day
Decent, not great. Limited menu, tiny wine selection. Flatware would be considered cheap in a college dorm, and service was slow but friendly. But clean, and soup was good.
Excellent food! Some of the best food I have ever had! Friendly atmosphere!
Went to colors before going to see the Phantom. It was one of the nicest dining experience I've ever encountered
Colors was not crowded while we were visiting so it's difficult to determine things like the noise level. The atmosphere was very bland and sterile in my opinion. Also, the restaurant is located downstairs in a building. The food was good, but I'd try other places before going back again.
Very friendly - we were greeted warmly upon arrival.
Great food - the salmon was cooked perfectly.
Casual - working on enhancing the ambiance of a very old building
There was almost no one else there the night we ate at Colors, which is a shame. The meal was excellent, and it was a great place for a dinner as part of an interview process. We appreciated the story of how Colors operates, and the food was abundant and excellent. The famous Sheena was our server, and was delightful.
Nice place! The food was wonderful and so was our waitress-Sheena!
Try the fried grits-YUM!!
