Old food for old people in an old Inn.
Love visiting a few times a year-nice drinks menu and good for families with children. I never deviate from my favorite-the Waldorf salad with shrimp. It gets very crowded in the fall and the hostess recommends booking a month out during that time to avoid disappointment. In winter the restaurant is quiet, especially at off-peak hours.
Celebrated our Mom's 80th Birthday, only a few other guests in the restaurant at 4pm on a Sunday afternoon (with Covid, we were concerned about crowds) - this was perfect, the food was delicious, the waitress was delightful, and the whole evening was perfect for our tiny gathering of grandchildren & her daughters (6 people total) Thank you for taking care of all of us in a safe manner ~
A great value and so close to home. Delicious food, reasonably priced.
Unfortunately the other rooms just does not have the same feel as the Merchant row dining room, Service was basic (no energy in server), meal was served on the cool side, potatoes were undercooked in the clam chowder, Christmas decorations taken down, no Christmas tree or poinsettia‘s, did not seem festive. Our evening did not meet our expectations based on previous occasions. I know Colonial Inn can do better. Sorry.
The food was very good. The staff was considerate - when my companion needed a pillow, the hostess was right on it. The waitress was very attentive. We enjoyed our dinner at the Colonial very much. I have never had a bad meal at this restaurant.
Neighborhood gem. Excellent breakfast food at a reasonable price.
Wonderful service and great food
Nice charming historical ambience in a charming town. And excellent food and service. A great way to share an evening.
Everything was exceptionally salty. I could barely swallow 1/4 of my sandwich. When our waitress FINALLY came by to ask how everything was and I told her, she didn’t offer anything except “I’m sorry to hear that”.
Staff was not wearing masks which left us feeling very uncomfortable.
Food and service are consistently great. Melissa, our server, was terrific and made the experience even better. Love the Inn Burger and sweet potato fries. Wonderful ambiance that harkens back 300 years ago.
Christmas lunch with friends. Nice atmosphere, good food. Waitress was a bit reluctant to give us individual checks, but did. The room was full, mostly women, quite noisy! 😄. A few years ago there was a gingerbread contest in the room with the poinsettia tree, was hoping for something festive like that this time. Enjoyable afternoon with shopping in town after.
They tried seating us in an extremely small room with no ventilation. I asked to be seated in the main dining room where I had made a reservation. They said there were no tables. After being seated and uncomfortable with COVID still raging, I went to the hostess station and again asked to be seated in the main dining room. They did finally accommodate us and there was plenty of empty tables when we were seated.
The food was very mediocre. The soup was cold & bland & the crab cake appetizer was odd. One crab cake was very large, the second was exceptionally small. Hard to share a dish when it’s not sized well. Our waitress was stressed & slow to return to our table.
Beautiful country inn with great food. Front desk staff helpful and personable.
A wonderful holiday experience.
We loved the crispy potatoes and the bacon was perfectly cooked! Everything was hot even though we were served outdoors on a chilly morning. Thank you!!
Food and service was great
The place is nice and the atmosphere is good and the staff is very friendly. Beside the chicken which was awful, the steak and the chocholate cake were delicious.
What a lovely restaurant! It was so festive with holiday decorations and the food was delicious!
Birthday - we come every year.
Lovely experience. Isabelle was a wonderful server. Heartily recommend it if you want good food in a historic environment and the ability to easily converse :-).
Delicious food at a reasonable price in an old fashioned setting.
We love the ambiance of this 300 year old building that is part of our country’s history independence. The service is always great and we love their charbroiled Inn burger and sweet potato fries. The town is also lovely to stroll through.
we pass Colonial Inn everyday and always see a lot of people waiting outside for a table. Finally, we had the chance to try it out - it is not disapppointing at all! The food is absolutely delicious. We had crab cake and chick mango quesadilla as the starter. My husband had quinoa kale salad, I went with jambalaya, both my son and my friend had lobster rolls. everything is fresh and flavorful. The portion is pretty generous. the cornbread and dinner rolls filled us up already. Our server, Laura (??) was very attentive and friendly. Overall, a great experience and my son gave 5 stars!
Nick, our server was super attentive and lovely to us! The entrees were delish! My stuffed pumpkin ravioli were incredible! I love the Colonial Inn and recommend it highly!
We have been going to the Colonial Inn for years and always enjoy it. The more formal dining room was closed on our most recent visit on a weeknight, possibly in response to the pandemic, but the food was good as always.
Wonderful service from our waitress. She deserves an A+
Food was delicious, service polite, prompt and friendly. And Hurray!!! A restaurant quiet enough for us to have a conversation!!!!
Lovely waitress and great food. Some waiting but we were there to visit as a family so it did not matter.
good wait staff, excellent caesar salad, flatbread with sundried tomatoes and balsamic vinegar and mussels in a tomato/onion/celery broth. The tables could have been a little farther apart, otherwise it was excellent. Will go again.
The person who greeted us on arrival was surly and unhelpful. We found our own way into the restaurant while he kept talking on the phone (taking someone's order I think). The atmosphere is dark and dreary and smells old.
Our waitress was very sweet and helpful and the food was quite good, which made up for the negatives.
I wouldn't go back to the restaurant.
Made a reservation, showed up a little early but they sat us right away and our waitress was very attentive for being so busy. loved that it’s in the old building but we didn’t see any ghosts during dinner. Lol
Food was excellent. The Flatbread app was especially good. I got the burger and my husband got the fish & chips. Would definitely go back.
A fine old favorite. Food as good as ever. Service excellent. Good wine and beer choices. Retains it's colonial character while being up to the very latest in comfort.
We haven't eaten at the Colonial Inn since before Covid. The salad, main courses and dessert were tasty. The server was friendly, but the restaurant was understaffed for the crowd. No refills of water and no spoons for the ice cream. We'll try again on a less crowded day.
I visited Colonial Inn many times. Wonderful, location history, I bring her guests also from abroad or other states. We used to have small medical events there too Slight decline in service, food . Not too bad Probably Covid. Server did not smile . not even once. Was unfriendly. Forgot and did not bring the appetizers we ordered. Did not apologise when we reminded her after they bought out the main dishes, she said "oh really" . One of their signature dish, we used to order, chicken pot pie, was all liquid like a thin soup.
Our dinners were wonderful seafood selections starting with a shared serving of mussels followed by salmon and scrod dinners. Everything was well-prepared, seasoned very well and was exceptional. It was a very busy Friday night but we were given attentive service. I recommend this fine place to anyone traveling in the area.
Hostess put the four of us at a table in a very small room and proceeded to seat four six-year-old children at an adjacent table who created such noise that we ultimately had to move our party to the lobby to be able to hear each other. The parents of the four children were seated separately and made little effort to quiet the children. As we left the room, I noticed that all other diners in the room had already retreated.
Due to the small dining rooms, I would only recommend outdoor seating.
