Colonial Cafe - The Majestic Hotel Kuala Lumpur
overall can be better, there's a roofing leaking part on the behind row of table allocated.
My husband and I had the best time at Colonial Cafe. The staffs are well trained and accomodating.
As always the ambience is excellent, with good service. The only drawback is you do not get to choose the type of tea (no options given), which is rather unusual for a high tea. Also if you don't like the flavour/type of tea for the day, be aware that it costs RM30 for an alternative.. with no refill !
The bad and poor afternoon tea that we ever had.
The service and food was excellent last time, but this time really make us felt disappointed.
Please retrain your crew.
Worth the money. Really nice food and ambiance. Due to MCO, the menu was simplified but it's good enough.
nice place to hang out with friends, family or clients. Love the pianist who can sing really well too. Overall experience very good
Perhaps this is the new normalcy. The waitress was great but the kitchen was struggling to have the dishes ready and deliver it within a reasonable time and the patrons expectations. The soups came after the main dish. Pretty disappointing.
The service was excruciatingly slow. We were at the hotel for 3 days and 2 nights. Had two breakfasts and two dinners at this cafe. Every single time the service was outrageously slow, especially dinner. First night we ordered the 5 choice meal and it took about 2 hours for everything to arrive. the next night we ordered the 7 choice meal and it took almost 3 hours. We were there from 7.30pm to 10.30pm. The food is decent and worth the price because its such a nice ambience. But the service is slow. I understand they were slightly understaffed but still, they were in no hurry and poorly trained to serve at such a classy hotel.
Food was so so maybe due to the crowds we waited for more than half an hour. Ambience was great, prefer to dine in next round in Orchid Room
Food quality is poor worse than a local coffeeshop quality not to mention overpriced. All other food outlets are closed during weekdays. One has no choice but to eat here.
I went there for afternoon tea for my mum's birthday. Everything was good and value for money. Staffs were great while served us. Thank you and keep up your good service!
Beautiful cafe with a beautiful music. Nice old style design, food is ok with very reasonable price.
Good ambiance pro waiters but the food sucks disappointing taste
I booked the Colonial Cafe because of the lovely photographs on the website. Unfortunately, we were sat at the back of an extended area, aroun a corner out of sight of the main Colonial Cafe area and my view was of a wall that was scraped and needed decoration. We were also disappointed that we paid for 3 'teas' but got 2.5
This is standard, I believe. It was a disappointing experience!
The band was great. Service staff was good and the food was great.
The ambiance is really good. The afternoon tea set was very ordinary. Consists of sweets and savoury. Everything was just mediocre. The scones however were good. Tea and coffee provided were good.
Good for photos and a quiet afternoon but would not come back as the food was good. Would prefer better quality food and smaller spread.
Unfortunately we were seated next to a family with young kids. Not very pleasant with them having a few mishaps. Also the waiters appeared not very attentive at all. Had to seek their attention just to get milk. Half a container of milk when 4 people were having tea and coffee. The piano music not quite suited. Last time we were there in July it was so much more relaxing!!
I am not sure if service at Colonial cafe has gone down in quality, but being a regular at the hotel and its spa, i personally feel that it has.
1. when we sat down at the sofa area, we were asked to move because we had a 3 year old with us. apparently, that area is reserved for ppl with no kids. this should have been made clear from the outset rather than embarrassing us in that manner.
2. then, we were moved to the inside of the resto. came a waiter, a young guy, who began verbalising and talking in a loud tone, about the hi tea and the COST per person. I felt it was so tactless and tacky and this has got to be the first time that i encountered such experience in a 5 star establishment. I would think, a guest would have researched the cost earlier on, or would ask a waiter discreetly. he certainly didnt need to do that in front of my guests that afternoon, I was there to treat my guests and of course i don't want them to know the cost of that treat. when i asked for earl grey tea, he again reiterated that it is ADDITIONAL, at RM30 per cup. OMG!! can he be more humiliating, as if we cannot afford it.
TMKL should teach their newer staff about discretion.
3. throughout the afternoon, it was hard to get the wait staff attention, either they were not many of them or they were all too busy. I had to stand up, went around and call the person behind the bar to come and top up our tea.
It is such a shame to see the drop of their service. Recently, we stayed at their Colonial suite and experience similar unsatisfactory level of service, where our previous stays prior to that have been exceptional. Such a shame, as TMKL is our go to hotel for dining/spa. I really hope they improve!
Savoury pastries were okay, not fantastic. Vending machine coffee and tea was common tea. Sweet desserts were too sweet though. The portion was very generous and we couldn't finish. Ambiance was great, low noise level, spacious and comfortable. Service was slow as we went once the high tea session started. The staffs were fumbling to serve all tables at the same time. We had to constantly ask for refill as only one teapot was provided for 4pax. Server also forgot our request to help take photo. Overall still a good experience though.
Awesome place to some relax event. Helpful staff in any aspects.
Outstanding value for an excellent high tea in an elegant colonial setting; so worth the trek to find it. the reviews really are true.
Beautiful setting, good service and variety of food. Excellent value for money.
The staff need to more attentive rather than let the customer waiting when serving.
We went for afternoon tea, ambiance as usual was awesome, but the food standard has dropped. We came first but got our food last, tables around us got their food first although came later. There were only 2 types of beverage to choose, English breakfast or coffee. We ordered tea but was give 1 teapot to share among three. Tea always run out. About 5pm, we asked for refill but it wasn't English breakfast anymore, the tea tasted very weird, more like a mixed tea blend or something. We just couldn't tell what tea was it. Nevertheless it was a good & quiet place for meet up and long chat.
The staff who did not come even if called was very unpleasant. I still remember the smiling employee's face when I asked for chopsticks. I used many hotels, but it is the most unpleasant hotel. I'll never make a reservation again.
We Went to the afternoon tea in the colonial cafe the 22th of juli 2019, it Was a very good experience and we Will definetely recommend it. The only downsize was that the Walter could have payed more attention to our table, But overall a very good experience,
nice place and ambiance to gather with friends and family.
Lovely and pleasant experience having a hi tea party
Needed to speak to manager before I went to the restaurant about a requesti needed to make but did not get connected even after 5 calls made and contact left for manager Jay to return call....disappointing!
I am a high tea lover and I was putting a high expectation for the high tea at Majestic Hotel as always i saw good reviews from online blogger. However i was disappointed when I first visited the place. I was surprise when I ask the waitress how many selection of teas they are serving. The replied was "Only BOH tea". I was shocked when I got this answer. I have been to few other hotels for my high tea, they have plenty of selections of tea and Majectic Hotel which having high review only serve "BOH" Tea? Another disappointment was there were total 6 of us, and only 2 tea pots to be shared among us. As we were sitting inner part of the colonial café, so it was quite difficult for us to call for waitresses. So when we want to get our tea pot to be refilled with hot water, we have to really wait for the waitress. Also, the tea pot sets served were not as shown in the blogger pictures. I expected something very British style of tea pot sets but ended up like normal café white tea pot. Initially i was planned to book for drawing rooms, but due to we have 6 persons so we only can have our high tea at Colonial Cafe due to sitting limitation. First i thought is ok next time i can go back anytime to drawing rooms after my first try at Colonial Cafe. But after this first experience, it was a true disappointment and I don't think I will go back for second time.
My husband and I celebrated our 30th Wedding Anniversary in the Colonial Cafe and it was a delightful evening. We had the set menu and enjoyed it. The staff were attentive, friendly and efficient. Our table had red rose petals on it and we were presented with a complimentary anniversary dessert. The evening jazz band was a lovely touch. Thank you to all. Warm regards, Brigitte and Trevor James
I love the cakes as they are not too sweet. The portion was good for two person.
Service a bit slow, maybe one waiter need cover many tables. But they all nice and polite.
Everything was fine except for the a la carte dish, it's not worth the price as the food was not good!
They only concentrate on the set menu.
Great place ! The hotel is at the level of expectations for a high class Hotel. However the entry by the East lobby is a bit disappointing until you reach the main room of Colonial cafe with the band playing a very Jazz music. All servers are quite classy and friendly, but I noticed some "not so white" areas on the "so white" jacket of the waiters. It's also a bit disappointing.
Food was good and the wine was good quality..
Too much air from the fans on the ceiling is not necessary with already a good condtionned temperature. Just let them slow and it will be perfect.
Good ambience for afternoon tea . The food is average but portion is a lot for one pax .
It was an incredible dining experience. Worth a penny. Highly recommended.
Good environment, friendly staff and thank you for the birthday cake. Enjoy the moment.
i always like their scones, clotted cream and jam ... simply superb!
