We had a group of 7 come for dinner. The food was great but service was mediocre. A few of us had to wait about 20 mins for our meal and appetizer. Not sure we’d go back ...

I took my bestie there for her birthday and the hostess did a great job acknowledging her b day when we walked in. She loved the atmosphere when we walked in. Kelly Ann S. Served us, at first she seemed engaged and attentive. But when I asked for a menu she gave it to me and we couldn’t find her for about 14 minutes. So we ended up asking another server to order a chicken biscuit. And then we still could not find her, then another male server refilled our house punches because she never came back and asked us for refill. And we ended up returning our cold brew coffee because she never was available to give us cream or sugar. And when we talked to her about it she said you could’ve just asked, which I thought was a crappy response. I wanted to say, same goes for you lady. But I didn’t hence it was my friends b day. I really like this place but since Adrain left it’s not that same service or upbeat. It’s unfortunate because the last 3 times I’ve come it’s been one thing or another.

I love this place and always recommend. Can’t give out my
Secret but I say come knowing what you want... cause they will deliver.

One small critique, they could use more “taste” (salt or spice) in their day time menu. Kind of bland. But still good.

The food was very good overall, though a couple of dishes could've used a bit more salt or contrasting flavors. (Specifically, the very l beet orange salad was a bit too sweet and could've used some acid or goat cheese to punch through it.) Service was decent, but could've checked in one us a bit more often. Place was loud for brunch, as it was packed.

Food took forever to come out and the wait was never acknowledged by servers. Brunch was delicious - loved the doughnut bites and fried chicken and waffles. Burger was just okay.

Rose was an absolute amazing waitress. I have worked in the food industry my entire life. I now run a catering company. Rose is the example of who I would want on my team. She was prompt, courteous, and carried on nice Convo. She answered all of our questions and described the dishes so well.

Drinks were great. Fried green tomatoes were a little bland. We both had the pork chop and the first few bites were excellent but got a bit one note after that. Very flavorful but everything tasted like the sauce. It needed a carb or something to cut the acid.

As a pescatarian, I checked out the menu beforehand and knew I'd be ordering the redfish. When I went to place my order, I was informed that the restaurant was out of fish. My only other option was the shrimp and grits and I am not a shrimp lover. When the meals arrived, I noticed that another diner at my table was served redfish - and he ordered after I did! I was a tad put off by that and after mentioning it to our server, was not offered to have it rectified, nor was I visited by the manager to discuss the issue. In other news, there was much about the place I liked - the ambiance, the staff (other than the above mentioned issue) and the Moscow Mule. My bad for not insisting on talking to the manager but being with a group of 6, I didn't want to make it a huge thing.

Everything was wonderful with the exception of noise level. Great food and cocktails, and the staff was friendly and attentive. It was so loud that everyone was having to practically shout at each other to be heard. Good for groups, but not for am intimate dinner.

The restaurant is vintage, yet trendy. Eating there feels like you’re in your grandmothers house, but also an upscale, young, city restaurant all at once. We really enjoyed the mule, biscuits, and the chicken pot pie.

Although the food was fine to very good, I felt like I was walking into any other "retro" hipster place: too loud, too crowded, inaccessible to the disabled, same menu items, and overpriced. The menu items were hard to appreciate because they were plated poorly; for example, the fried green tomato and pimento cheese biscuit feel apart before I could even bite it because it was overfilled. then the avo toast was on a thin piece of poorly toasted bread, again I had to eat toast with a fork. Not returning. Don't deal with the hassle; eat your local hipster place, it will be the same.

We enjoyed our dinner. It was a relatively quiet Sunday evening and the restaurant was a little chilly. We ordered blue cheese potato chips and the house biscuits. We hoped the blue cheese would have a little more bite. It was on the creamy side. The biscuits were good and came with a special butter and homemade jam. For entrees I ordered the steak and it was perfectly seasoned. My husband ordered the shrimp and grits and was disappointed. The grits were supposed to be cheddar grits but didn’t have much flavor. The shrimp also seemed flat. The server came by to check on us and we were honest. He quickly sent the plate back and let us order something new. We don’t ever send anything back and the server was extremely nice and understanding. My steak was so amazing so it made the disappointing shrimp even more so. My husband ordered the redfish entree and it was astounding. It came in a smoky corn sauce. I was impressed with the service and the majority of the food. We will go back I’m sure.

Very family oriented restaurant in the very family fashionable Mueller neighborhood. Fried green tomatoes were salty, deviled eggs were so tangy they almost puckered my face. Biscuits were terrific, so was the fried chicken. Very good Mac and cheese. We ordered the braised cabbage and ham and this was inedible. The cabbage was so hard and tough it was like they hadn’t even cooked it. When our server asked us if we wanted it boxed up to take home we explained what the problem was. He said he would let the kitchen know. However I guess because we actually ate one of the cabbage leaves, he still charged us for it. Overall the service was good.

Everything about Colleen’s was great except for the noise level. Apparently it was kids-eat-free day so screaming children throughout. We made the mistake of going there to meet our sister’s new boyfriend because we couldn’t hear anything, and it was hard to talk and get to know him.

It took over 40 minutes to get our brunch out on a Sunday morning. They took it off of our bill but even when I did get my “breakfast platter” I was unimpressed. For $12 I received a mostly empty plate. My boyfriends $15 chicken and waffles were astounding and the portion matched the price.
When I order a breakfast platter, I assume I’ll be getting a platter of food. I paid $3 to add toast to this meal so I could dip some bread in my fried eggs but the bread was sweetened and filled with poppy seeds.
I’ll go back but I’ll be getting the chicken and waffles. Serious plate envy.
The management was kind and accommodating to our obviously delayed breakfast and did not charge us. This is why I will go back. The manager was so lovely.

I live in Chicago and have had better soul/ comfort food back home. I had the shrimp and grits... the shrimp were pulverized and the grits weren’t seasoned at all... it felt as if I was eating cream of wheat.. the only thing this restaurant can hang their hat on was the chicken pot pie and that wasn’t exceptional. Overall I give it a 2 out of 5. Overpriced and not what I expected from Austin comfort food.

Nice restaurant with super friendly and attentive staff. Fried chicken served family style was enough for 4 so the three of us had leftovers, and was very good. French 75 cocktails were very tasty. Mashed were good too. Only negatives were way too much salt on the fried zucchini and way too much pepper on the haricot verts.

This place was amazing! I had seen some negative reviews but heard great things so when I walked by it a few days earlier I knew I wanted to try it. At first I was a little shocked my the size of the menu, it wasn’t as robust as you expect from some restaurants but after ordering the food and tasting it I can see why! They don’t need a lot of options, EVERYTHING from the appetizers to the main course and the drinks were amazing! I can’t wait to go back! Great place for families, individuals or in my case a date! I highly recommend it!

Oh and there was so much left over we brought them home and they were just as good the next day! That never happens!

The food at Colleen's is very good and unique, with a good wine list and excellent brewed iced tea. Their specialty is a delicious, moist friend chicken. The fried chicken with mashed potatoes, green beans and a biscuit, or the caesar salad with friend chicken are both great options. The service is also great. It can be a little loud, but not too bad. We also enjoy the cool old movies they show above the bar.

The Chicken Biscuit was pretty impressive, soup was ok, the dessert (a mousse pie and banana pudding) was disappointing and the High Cotton Cocktail was too strong to be enjoyable.

Overall an ok experience, so I would not go out of my way to recommend to a friend.

We had an overall terrific experience visiting Colleen's Kitchen for the first time, for Sunday brunch. Menu favorites: the Little Biscuits (esp. the fried green tomato), fried okra, chicken & waffles, Colleen's punch. Love the decor and atmosphere, noise level in a packed restaurant was bustling but we could still hold a conversation and hear each other fine. Service was mostly very attentive, wait time for food was a little longer than expected but not a big deal. Nice # of choices on brunch kids' menu, as well. Will definitely be back!

Place was perfect for brunch, but i think they may have been a bit understaffed - a chronic problem in a overemployed city like Austin.
