Kind of disappointing after seeing the pictures and reviews online. It wasn't at all authentic food, which would be fine, but it wasn't interesting in any other way either. Overall nice place and good presentation, but not much flavor or wow factor. Would not recommend.
Best ever homemade tortillas, guac and pazole!!!!
Love the food but it’s pretty loud, hard to hear person right across the table...
Great food! The place is cool place!
I recommend it to anyone...
I used to be a huge fan of Colibri and have been multiple times over the years. Unfortunately, the past two visits have left me not wanting to return. The service has really gone down hill and it’s unfortunate because the food, while expensive, is really quite tasty. To make matters worse, today when I had lunch there a mouse scurried by in the restaurant. That alone wouldn’t make me stop going to a restaurant, as I know things happen, but the lack of concern or acknowledgement from management when it was brought up, sealed the deal. I don’t believe I will be back.
This is a gem in San Francisco! From start to finish the meal and the service was fantastic. Highly recommended!
Lo mejor de San Francisco. El mejor servicio y el sazón excelente de sus chefs.
We love Colibri. We eat there every time we visit San Francisco. The tortillas are exquisite, I'd love the recipe. The ceviche was wonderful. Looking froward to returning soon.
Food was good, service was OK. Margaritas were very good (we tried several different). I had the petit filet mignon, which was a quality hot steak on top of cold mashed potatoes (how does that happen?). Not your traditional Mexican fare. More like good American dishes with a Mexican flair. The ambiance is better in the back room than in the bar.
The Pozole was great, though I was hoping they would use pork rather than chicken. The freshly made tortillas were a nice surprise.
Waiter seem he didn’t care. One of person dining with had lipstick on glass didn’t even apologized and we also said the dish we order wasn’t very satisfying.
Really really good... very tasty, great menu, genuine sopas, great guacamole. Really enjoyed it!
Manager was very rude!
This restaurant is amazing. The menu is original and the food and service are exceptional. Our server, Joseth was friendly and attentive. The manager, Ruth was very polite and helpful. She was attentive to us as well as everyone sitting around us. I recommend Colibri with 5+ Stars!
And yet another YOU HAVE TO EAT HERE post. Last night the birthday girl chose Mexican for dinner and research led us to Colibri Mexican Bistro on Geary Street in San Francisco. Delicious, unique Mexican fare, fabulous service and the presentation of each course was OUTSTANDING.
First time, and I will definitely go back. The service was very attentive, and the food very good. A bit noisy, but that seems to be the trend these days.
I did call the restaurant to let them know I was running about 15 min. late for our reservation and they were kind and still honored my reservation. It was a Thursday and not really crowded, but I did appreciate this. My friends flight was an hour late, hence our delay.
I have been dining at Colibri for many years now and for me, the "shine has dulled a bit". They no longer make the Guacamole at your table, which for me, was one of the more fun aspects of this restaurant. Plus, it no longer sits in the bowl, it sits in a plastic tub in the container. Friendly service has remained in tact. Of course, prices have gone up considerably and portions are now smaller. My Two Little Panuchos De Cochinita Pibil (appetizer) were very good ($12.00), the Ceviche ($16.00) was "off the hook" fresh and a very generous serving. Always love the warm tortillas presented with all the meals. The Guacamole didn't disappoint, except for the fact, they forgot we ordered it and it came with our meal and wasn't spicy like we ordered, so we had to ask for chiles on the side to spice it up a bit. We shared a Chile Relleno ($16.00), which was delicious stuffed with meat, but it wasn't hot and just sat on a swirl of black bean sauce, no garnish, just kind of big and naked on the plate. For the price, a little dollop of beans and rice would be nice. The Chile was grilled to perfection and also cooked to perfection. The meat inside and seasonings was very noteworthy. One of the best Chile Rilleno's I've ever had. Given the skimpiness of the plate, I would not order it again. So all of this plus one cocktail was $95.00, so you can see, it's a tad pricey. My out of town guest Loved it and that's what really counts.
This was a w
Duck was really good. Give you endless supply of tortillas. Plantains were good too
Great margaritas. Wholesome and authentic. Ceviche is amazing.
All the courses we tried are delicious. The restaurant gave me a new experience of Mexican cuisine.
Food overpriced, Margaritas marginal
Had a much better Mexican meal the next evening , Margaritas, etc at a place around the corner called MATADORS
The service was terrible. We only ordered appetizers but had to wait 45 minutes for soup and fish tacos. The kitchen staff was standing around talking while we were waiting and the table next to us had many items brought out promptly so I don't understand the hold up. We've been here several times, this was a disappointment. If it wasn't for the homemade tortillas and proximity to other things we wouldn't have come back.
Pretty meh. Maybe better for drinks. Odd food: Started with appetizer of melted cheese overwhelming small bits of mushrooms and sausage; very tiny chili relleno from the main course part of the menu; a romaine salad with grilled shrimp that was more difficult to cut than most steaks; nothing had any real heat, including none of the salsa offerings on the table, one of which was supposed to be"the spiciest" of the three. Disappointing. SF has trouble with Mexican food if you're not in the Mission.
Colibri is always one of my favorite places to go for happy hour in San Francisco. I came to celebrate my birthday and the food and margaritas were delicious as always.
The guacamole is fabulous, as are the margaritas and shots of tequila. Our preference is to sit at the bar, but wait staff do a great job at the tables as well. We try to go every time we’re in SF for plays, good brunch on weekends, never have had a bad meal.
Delicioso ! El Servicio excelentísimo ! La Comida buenísima! Necesitan mudarse a un espacio más grande las mesas están muy pegadas ofreciendo cero privacidad. Somos regulares. Nos encanta la comida.
Friendly ,comfortable spot with tasty fresh authentic Mexican dishes
Came here 2 years ago and loved it, food and service were both great, pricey but delicious. This time, we waited a long time to get service and then to get out food. When the food came out part of it was cold and had to be sent back, not as tasty as before, and not at the same level it was the last time.
El pollo estaba delicioso
Y EL guacamole buenísimo
El servicio excelente
Food was good as always - lamb shank is great to share as are the salads. Ask to be seated in Armando's section at the front of the restaurant where it's a bit quieter - any you'll get Armando who's great.
Upscale, creative Mexican food. A very good and varied menu. 5 of us, and no one was disappointed. Curran Theater is right across the street. Easy access from BART.
Very very noisy. Slow food delivery, to the point that they comped the glass of wine. Cannot recommend.
Delish food, Fab margaritas, and great atmosphere. Overall would recommend and I plan to go back!
Overall good food, but I was really disappointed at how bland the guacamole was. We asked for medium spicy and it wasn't spicy or salty. Just bland. Unfortunately, I usually use guacamole as the litmus test of how good a Mexican restaurant is, so I think that tainted my view of the other dishes. I'll go back again to see if that one time was out of the ordinary or the norm.
Great delicious food. Bad service. Very slow poor communication between staff. Felt like nobody was in charge literally.
The forgot our drink orders and those of all the people at other tables.
5 stars to the cooks.
2 for wait staff.
There is a kind of phoney trying to impress diners by waiters instead of working hard and being engaged by them.
Food however delicious
The food was wonderful: I enjoyed the carnitas and mushroom side dish. The service was prompt and great.
Colibri is always a treat. I might carp softly that they were out of Delirio mescal on this one occasion but with so many other options available that would be petty... try something new! It's a great place for mole (if you like it) and for Sunday brunch in general. Staff is always very helpful with advice and accommodating if you have needs or questions (like what other mescal you might like!) .
We had a great time at Colibri! A group of us got together for Saturday brunch (~20 people). They had the table prepared, and kept us in an area off by ourselves and made sure that we were constantly attended too (and had our glasses filled). Hosts were nice - great experience overall!
LOVE Colibri. Best Mole Poblana in town. Interesting menu, great drinks, and oh yes, yes -- that Mango Creme Brulee.
Looking for a restaurant close to the Geary theater and this is literally across the street! However this now is on our list for out of town guest who want to eat in the city. Complimentary house flour tortillas served warm with three salsas was an unexpected treat. Margaritas and Sangria...yummy. Guacamole was fabulous, empanadas (3 per order) were a good lite dinner. Husband enjoyed mole dish and the ceviche. Be sure and make reservations, especially on theater night!
