Colibri - Mexican Bistro
My Husband and I dined at Colibri after an afternoon theatre show. I found the food to be average.
There were no enchilades or tomales which we expected to find at a Mexican restaurant. My tostada was ok. I have had better in other Mexican restaurants. I suppose the attraction is that the restaurant is near
the Geary and Curran theatres.
We were on vacation in San Francisco. Found them in Open Table as well as Find Me Gluten Free. Very helpful regarding food choices and gluten free offerings. Great food and a fun ambience.
Came into town from the airport hoping to find some tasty Mexican but felt like we were served yesterday’s rice and some over priced basics.
Zero to avoid
Fantastic staff and great atmosphere. The menu is superb, and different to your standard Mexican menu. This felt more authentic. Definitely try the guacamole to start - the staff make it in a station close to the bar to your taste. It was all fantastic!
The atmosphere was congenial although we requested a quiet table and got seated in the middle of the bar room. There were plenty of other tables in the adjacent dining room that would have obviously been a lot more intimate. The service was very good.
As far as value is concerned? Not so good.
The duck breast was a little skimpy and dry. There's a reason why they don't put the prices on the online menu. Seventeen dollars for guacamole is a bit much. I understand it's in the heart of the tourist district, but some of the prices were ridiculous for what came to the table.
I’ve enjoyed this place for both dinner and most recently brunch. The food and service never disappoints! I had the chilaquiles verdes and they were to die for. The fresh-squeezed orange juice mimosas are tasty and not to mention bottomless. Highly recommended!
Great experience! Food was delicious! Service was great!
Drinks were amazing and service impeccable. The food was average.
Arrived a bit earlier for my reservation and was seated right away. Everything went downhill from there as it took the waiter 15 just to come to the table, tried to order some guacamole but they were out of avocados, and it took over an hour to get my entree. The portions are small, food poorly seasoned, and the service sucks!
The food was exquisite, particularly the duck in mole verde. Their churros were delicious. Service was a little slow even though it was not that busy when we first got there and at times we had to get the servers attention but overall great experience.
Very good carnitas, highly recommend!!! Great margo's as well.
Attentive service, yummy food and close to Union Square.
Delicious food, sweet staff! Love the fresh, warm tortillas on arrival!
At the first table we were seated noisy and cramped people were bumping into us as we sat. Decided to sit at the bar great bartender awesome food. It was our anniversary but not acknowledged no big deal. Would definitely go back margaritas were excellent
Colibri is a great place to eat in the downtown area, especially if you are going to the Curran. We have been several times and always believed we had a very good meal. It can be noisy, especially if you are seated next to a large group. The layered tortilla/mole chicken dish is excellent.
Unfortunately we had slow service, a server that ignored us, and once we got our food it did not all came at the same time, there were 6 of us and I had to wait an additional 10 min to get my food, and then when I’d did come it was the wrong order! Not good all around
We went for a Bachelorette party and they acknowledged us about it and were very friendly. Margaritas were good and food was tasty. Id recommend it especially if you stay at Hotel Diva you get 10% off.
Food is not worth the price, I would say there are better Mexican restaurants you can go to in the area.
Get the churro! They're amazing! The meal was great, including the guacamole. Lovely spot. Perfect for meeting up with friends.
This used to be my go to restaurant when I visited San Francisco. The time before this visit it seemed a little off. It was really off this time. I didn’t really find anything that distasteful but rather lack luster. Perhaps the place is the same and I’ve just grown tired of it. I don’t plan on returning when visiting the city in the future.
Average food ...not a great place ...portions were small
The food here is excellent, the service a tad slow. I made a reservation before I arrived and the staff seemed a bit confused. The restaurant is fairly large with a front and back of house and they tend to put people in the front of the house so it's a bit cramped and a bit loud. It took a little while for someone to take our order, and no one ever asked if I needed another drink so I only bought one.
The staff was friendly and helpful.
Good food and drinks. I would definitely eat there again.
Delicious food - chili rellenos were perfect. And, as they were baked and not breaded, the focus was on the roast-y taste of the pepper as well as the perfectly cooked vegetables within. My friend had the chili relleno with carnitas - she felt the same way. And what was equally great: two people in our party have Celiac disease and must have food be gluten-free. There were many options for them; including the chili rellenos, which is often off-limits with the typical breading. My friend was thrilled to get to choose that! Margaritas and guac were good too, and I don't often indulge in dessert, but so glad I did not miss the churros! My celiac friends enjoyed the flan for their dessert. Muy deliciosa!
Went with three friends for dinner and drinks before catching a show. The cocktails were good, as was the food. Our one complaint was that it took a long time for our drinks to show up from the bar, and for food to be delivered. Other tables seemed to have the same problem. Hopefully it was just an off night for them. I'll go back and try again, as the people were friendly and the food was great!!
Food was very authentic Mexican food. The mole is delicious
Fine Mexican food, if all you know of Mexican food is burritos and chimichangas don't go there, if you enjoy fine Mexican food the restaurant is outstanding, margaritas are delicious.
We had been there before but our recent visit was better than I remembered. We had asked for a quiet table and the waitress seated us at the back in a corner that was indeed much quieter than the rest of the restaurant. Service was friendly and efficient. The food was excellent. Our friends had the french toast. They said they often order french toast and this was the best they've had. My omelette was tasty and not too rich. I don't usually like refried beans but these were very good. The only negative was my husband's "drowning eggs". One was runny but the other done perfectly. The soup they were in was excellent. We'd definitely go again.
Amazing food ! We ordered way to much! Margarita were awesome !
I was entertaining my cousin and her family during their visit to San Francisco. They were impressed with both the food and the service.
Good food. Reasonable portions. Delicious drinks.
We always come to Coribri from Seattle, Delicious drinks and food! (Except for the family next to us, so disrespectful for not keeping their kids in order!)
My daughter and I shared brunch there. The french toast is other worldly good. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because our eggs were over cooked. Beyond that it was a great experience.
I would recommend for the food but would not recommend as a great spot for a big group, particularly with kids. Guacamole was very average and overpriced. Everything else was quite good.
Great food, worth a visit.
Food: good but too expensive, Service: good. Location: good, but our table was in the back of the restaurant, near to the bathroom and the kitchen. What has left us disappointed: the mandatory 18% tip at the bill, not fair at all.
Touristy (pricey) average Mexican with good margaritas.
There are better nearby.
Food was great service could have been a better for the amount of $ you spend. All in all it was a good experience.
