Colibri - Mexican Bistro
No one to meet or show us where to sit. Our booth had seats with torn leather. Sweet waiters but slow and unexperienced. Made mistake on our drinks. Had to ask them to take our order. Guacamole no longer made fresh at our table and presentation in plastic dish not attractive with too much lemon in it and not much for 17.00. Strange tortilla soup like a pureed ragu. Not hot and waiter forgot to bring spoons until we asked for them. No longer had fresh tortillas being made on the spot. We haven eaten here for many years and it must have changed hands because the quality has gone done.
I had been there a few years ago and decided to go back, it did not disappoint.
I do think it was loud in there, that being said it was Saturday & charging $17.00 for Guacamole is a bit high, great experience overall.
I will definitely be going back with a bigger group next time.
The filete mignon was outstanding, and our server was very friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
I enjoyed the innovative approach to the 'normal' Mexican food I adore! I thoroughly loved the Chili Relleno dinner!!
Was not expecting to have some of the best Mexican food in my life tonight!!! This food was amazing... Must haves: Panuchos de Cochinita Pibil, Tostadas de Tinga, guacamole, plaintaines, and the carnitas. The empanadas weren't my favorite, but they were still good. They also serve homemade tortillas with the guacamole. We were so full we had to cancel our bar plans after dinner and Bart back home to lay in bed full of delicious Mexican food. We will be coming back! Highly recommend!!
Great food. Very slow service
A great location across the street from the Geary Theater - excellent service, great food, and great drinks. A bit noisy, but overall a good experience. Definitely recommend!
I organized a dinner at Colibri with business colleagues while traveling for work. Good food and ambiance. Slow service. We were asked to leave as we were ordering dessert because they had over-booked. Our total time in the restaurant was about 2 hours. Will not return not recommend in the future.
Wonderful experience. Attentive friendly staff. Maragaritas were delicious
Good quality mexican food with a nice cocktail menu. Appetizers are big. Wait staff very attentive.
Our go to restaurant when we're in the city. Unique dishes, order the pato.
Best Mexican breakfast! And they make good margaritas! Wonderful pre-2 PM ACT show to have lunch.
Our favorite pre-theatre dinner spot. Food, service, everything, uniformly excellent! Some new menu items too! We LOVE Colibri.
Wonderful food, excellent service. Noisy in the bar area but there is a quieter room in the back.
Great Mexican restaurant with original food. Properly the best Margaritas in town!
I ordered fish and although it was well prepared and presented, the portion size was more the size of an appetizer than a main course.
Same for other main courses.
Good food but high prices
The food was good but not for that price, I’ve had much better Mexican food at high end restaurants for that price.
Such an amazing time in San Francisco, we come here every time we visit from Seattle.
This was a return trip to Colibri to see if our initial dinner was a once in a life time incident. On this most recent dinner out, we found the service to be just as great and the food was once again excellent. Colibri was everything we had hoped for.
Wonderful margaritas, tortillas, and guacamole. Service was excellent. Traffic was unbelievably light, so we arrived nearly an hour early for our reservation. Since A.C.T. did not start until 8:00, we managed to linger for nearly 3 hours. Our waiter came round periodically but never expressed any impatience. A really delightful evening.
Nice restaurant. Great food. Good service. But the last Mexican touch was missing and a little too expensive but great food and experience - try the Churros!
Tasty food and good service at Sunday brunch! We had an assortment of dishes and all were good.
The food was awesome!!! Enjoyed the filet mignon; the flavors of the sauce and the stuffed goat cheese pepper complemented the beef. The mashed potatoes with spinach was also very good. Enjoyed a glass of Malbec which was so smooth and delicious with the meal.
We had an ok dinner. We got seated at a table where the waiter could barely reach us. Drinks food etc were handed over our shoulder. This made service quite slow as they couldn’t see us. Food was good quality, very tender filet mignon.
Lively, loud, delicious food (we had fish tacos, chicken mole and three salsas), seamless service.
The hostess gave away our table after just ten minutes, there was traffic. Then we got sat at a table right next to the kitchen. The food was way more expensive then what was listed on yelp and it was not very good. There was little flavor, the carnitas were dry and the portions were small. I would not recommend or go back.
Overall a good experience. Good and friendly service. A bit long to wait for the main course. I would return if I was again attend the theater st the Geary or Curran.
Margaritas were delicious. Carnitas and beet salad were very tasty. Great place to eat when first getting into town and on foot near Union Square and wanting reliable and good Mexican food
Great convenient place in Union Square area. Yummy guacamole, good margaritas! Nice service-cozy booths in the back.
Over priced, not that great, tourist trap. I wouldn't go back here. Way better mexican restaurants.
Having liked this restaurant a lot, years earlier, I invited a friend who is visiting from out of town. We were seated in the back, in a corner (which was considerate of the host, as there was a celebrating party of about 7 people, who might have made quite a lot of noise), so that we could hear each other.
We both ordered the house margarita, and it was just right: not too strong or weak, not too salty or sweet.
However, although their interior and ambiance are quite warm and inviting, and the service was gracious (if a bit harried), their food quality was not as good as I remembered, while the prices are now even higher, so I was rather disappointed, overall.
We have been going to Colibri for a number of years, whenever we get into the city and we have never been disappointed! Note, it can get noisy..try to get a booth in the back section.
Love this place
Every time I visit San Fran I go to eat there
Very good very authentic with a Southwest flavor
Biggest lack was that the restaurant doesn't serve coffee or tea anymore. Food and surroundings great, service could be smoothed out a bit.
The food and service is very good. Great tortillas. It is priced like a higher end restaurant even though it is very casual. I enjoyed it and would go back again for lunch.
Very good service — extremely flexible during convention period.
I was looking forward to trying this restaurant again after many years, unfortunately the food was really unimpressive.
This place NEVER fails. Authentic food, amazing margs, great service. Love it every time.
This wasn’t the first time I went there, which speaks for itself. I love the creative Mexican cuisine they offer. The service made a nice variety of recommendations. Highly recommended if you like a) Mexican and b) something different.
