Colette blends the best of French culture to bring a dynamic dining experience to Porter Square. We strive to leave a lasting impression with our dramatic surroundings, smart wine list, warm and hospitable service, hand-crafted cocktails, and of course, a French inspired menu. Brunch, dinner, or cocktails - welcome to your new home!
We offer a range of small plates, hot and cold, which remix French classics - Mussels, Steak Frites, Salads, along with Cheese and Charcuterie boards and French desserts: Mousse au Chocolat, Crème Brûlée... Everything is made in house with love, we start from scratch everyday.
The star of our drink menu is definitely the wine, But we also serve beers, ciders and cocktails crafted by our mixologists.

The maitre d' was very accomodating for our seating and the wait staff were all attentive. The food was hot, plentiful and arrived promptly even though we were in the patio. The waiter was very assiduous in keeping the heat tower lit even though it did not cooperate.
Colette was a great find, and especially convenient because we were staying at the Porter Square Hotel. The food was delicious and the service was exceptional.
Great place! Our server, gia, was amazing. Had a great birthday dinner!
Absolutely wonderful patio and great wine selection
Frankly, we were disappointed with our experience at Colette. There were a number of issues, which I will enumerate below:
1. Ambience: the restaurant was crowded, very loud, and uncomfortably warm. We had difficulty hearing ourselves speak, even though the table we sat at was very small, and the room was quite warm, so much so that I, in a short-sleeve shirt, was profusely sweating throughout the meal. The windows in the restaurant were all closed, and the A/C system seemed not able to adequately cool the room. I requested at one point, to our server if something could be done to cool the room, but although they said that they had turned up the system, there was not a very noticeable difference.
2. Food: it was disappointing. We first ordered wine, and were surprised when two already poured glasses were brought to our table, with no opportunity to sample the wine before they poured it. We ordered French Onion Soup and Mussels as appetizers, but the soup was thin and lacked flavor. The Mussels lacked seasoning (such as garlic) and were not appealing. We ate just a few before giving up on them and most of the soup. The Entrees (Tagliatelle and Monkfish) had problems as well. The Tagliatelle was too sweet. The Monkfish was better, but was a bit over-cooked. We chose not have dessert.
What made the dinner at Colette especially disappointing was that we had read many favorable reviews about it, some of them even describing the dining there as ‘exceptional.’ We would characterize it as ‘exceptionally bad.’ That was our experience, at least.
A friend, who lives nearby, and has dined all over the world, recommended Colette highly. Had a corner table on Mass Ave, but it was very gusty and getting colder. The hostess was happy to seat us inside, next to the bar. Split six oysters with my partner, who also had French onion soup, while I got a shrimp cocktail with 3 large ones. My glass of Sancerre off the list was just right. She had monkfish entree, I got steak fries, a large helping and perfectly cooked meat, and a glass of Medoc. Creme brulee for her, a glass of Armagnac for me and a cappuccino. Everything was delicious, perfectly cooked, with professional service. A busy, happy place, good vibe, people watching.
The confit de canard vol au vent appetizer was excellent. So was our waiter, Lounis.
We had a great time food and ambiance were great.woukd def recommend
We all had the chicken entree, which was excellent. Two of us had the Sancerre, delicious, and one of us had an Aperol Spritz, which was made correctly. The only real downside was slow service, but this is perfectly understandable given covid. Overall, this was a very good dining experience.
Nice small french restaurant. Food was fine, but soup and wine a little over-priced. Kitchen turned the steak tatare app into a main dish which we appreciated. Waitstaff was apparently a little overworked with the outdoor tables. Took a while to place our order and an attempt was made to serve us someone else's food. Overall I would return.
The staff was very attentive and the food was excellent. The back patio was a lovely surprise as well
The food here was terrific, very rich and flavorful. We started with the mushroom and duck confit vol au vent - a perfect mix of tender and crunchy - and then had the pork shank and duck a l'orange. The pork shank was a hefty amount of meat and both dishes were done right. Our waitperson was fantastic and recommended great cocktails and a wine pairing. We finished with the creme brulee, chocolate mousse, and macarons, all fine exemplars of their type. The pink velvet banquettes, crystal chandeliers, and oversize floral wallpaper made for fancy selfies. This was a but pricier than our usual weeknight dinner out, but it was definitely worth it.
Amazing dining experience! Food was excellent and ambiance was exceptional.
The food was 50/50. Our appetizer was great; the main was overpriced, uninspired, and bland.
We really enjoy Colette this is like Frenchie in Boston buy with a full bar and bigger more sit down restaurant. Like Frenchie the food is great we love the tartar, duck and everyone has to try the croissant pudding! The people and service are the best super friendly and they always remember you!
Birthday dinner with friends. Great time!
The food was incredibly bland and overpriced. We ordered the monkfish and tagliatelle. Each meal was almost $30 and not at all worth it considering the portion size and general lack of flavor.
Colette is a great addition to the neighborhood. Abundance of outdoor seating, crafty cocktails and always a very friendly staff.
My hope, as we struggle to rid ourselves of this pandemic, is that the restaurant expands its menu beyond the tired fair we are all witnessing in every restaurant...standard oven roast chicken, the one pasta dish (typically a bolognese), a couple fish dishes and the venerable steak frites! My worries are that foodies will bypass Colette if menu remains boring?
A lovely evening at Colette to celebrate a special occassion! Mild oct evening and the patio was lovely, attentive service, delicious food, and enjoyed seeing a family with children enjoying their meal too! thank you!
Fabulous every time
Colette- both its people and food are amazing. It's simply the best dining experience that I have had since the pandemic. They were always amazing but their resilience and steadfast quality and standards are truly spectacular.
Since the chef Cyril is not there, the quality of the French food has lost its French touch. The name of the French dishes might lure you, but the taste of the food is no longer what Colette used to be.
I’ll have to find a new French table.
Food was served promptly by a staff that radiated joy. We ate on the back patio after a nice cocktail at the bar. The service was the real stand out. Food was great too. Highly recommended.
The food was very good. But we were seated on the street with no barrier to the sidewalk. It was not optimal.
I loved the decore and roomy spacing between tables. We have a true Service Dog (not Emotional Support Animal, so it's protected by ADA Law) and the manager and staff were very accommodating! Lovely conversation teaching the difference between a Service Dog and Emotional Support dog to the staff. Wonderful authentic French cuisine. Definitely would come back!
Smallish wine selection for a wine bar.
We had overall a fabulous meal and wonderful evening.
This place could be five stars - maybe on another night? I loved it there - the setting was lovely, the food was very good, and the coffee was excellent! But the noise level was off the charts - and that was just a huge negative. It was disturbingly loud in there and took away from the enjoyment of the meal. Also, I think they were short-staffed. There were very long waits between visits to the table from our waitperson. We were never offered a dessert menu - had to request that....and had to request orders of second coffees from our bus person, as the waiter was nowhere around. I think he had many, many tables to service. Finally, the lead (hostess? manager?) actually came to the table to assist. Also, I'm sure it was for ambience, but it was so dark, we needed the phone light to read the menu.
All of that aside, the mussels, tuna, striped bass, oysters and macarons were excellent -- as well as the aforementioned coffee experience. If they can fix the noise and lighting level, I'd go back. The parking, at $10 valet for dinner, was quite reasonable (for someone who usually dines at the seaport or in downtown Boston or Back Bay anyway).
The food and atmosphere were amazing! The wine selection was outstanding! We had a great time and will be back.
It’s a covid oasis. Amazing outdoor dining space, great food and great service. I never get chicken at restaurants, but do yourself a favor and get the chicken.
Our second visit and it will definitely not be our last!
The waitstaff were great especially our primary server, Gia.
Beautiful patio, wonderful atmosphere, excellent service, and delightful menu-- such a lovely spot!
Excellent place for great food and service! Delightful servers and staff with wonderful food. Highly recommend it!
Fantastic patio. Great cocktails!
The steak frites was disappointing compared to two years ago, which was the reason my wife and I returned. The steak was an inferior cut of meat and overly salted, as were the fries. The wait staff was uninspired. The price/value coefficient poor and will not merit another visit.
I always enjoy coming to Colettes. It’s a great atmosphere everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. Got a chance to hang out with
friends I hadn’t seen in a long time and just enjoy some good food and company. They have a decent wine list and creative cocktails. We said inside because it was a rainy evening but no matter where you are at Colettes inside, on the patio or sitting at the bar it’s always pleasurable.
Cassie was such a great waitress, very attentive. The atmosphere was aesthetically pleasing and the drinks were strong!
Everything was great but the prices were a little high. The steak tartare was flavorless.
The patio behind the restaurant (and away from traffic) is a wonderful outdoor setting. The appetizer "canard en croûte" is awesome and very generous, and the moules appetizer equally delicious. Other dishes such as the boneless chicken and the mushroom tagliatelle earned high praise. One person complained that the spiced tuna was too strong, the flavor too much like a salad dressing. All in all, a great place to unwind; ideal for friends and conversation.
Beautiful place to dine. The back patio is one of the nicest places in Cambridge and the drinks are excellent.
