We love going to Cold Storage. But the wait for our reservation was extremely long and this is either the 2nd or 3rd time that has been the case. We waited until 8pm, nearly 30 minutes, for our table to be ready, and then we were somewhat ignored in the corner for the first 10 minutes after we got there. Once we finally got seated and the food arrived it was great, as always. But I don't think Ill be going back anytime soon, and certainly not planning to go unless spur of the moment because I don't trust that they can keep a reservation.
Ok for local everyday dining.
Kudos to Jennifer, Abby and the entire team. Great service, amazing oysters.
everything at cold storage was just fine. nothing more, or less. i think the pricing is way too high for the environment and service.
I went with a group of 8 colleagues. The menu was limited and nothing was amazing. Our guy from California ordered the ceviche and was more than disappointed. If you want snacky bar type food it isn't bad. The people that ordered the steak were happier but that is confusing when the restaurant is "cold storage seafood". If we wanted steak we would have gone to Swift. For me it was a wasted restaurant experience in Chicago.
The wait was 45 minutes past our reservation but, the staff more than compensated for the wait. They were extremely gracious.
Recommend the artichokes. The homemade peanut butter ice cream is an absolute must (subject to allergies).
Sandwich was served with burnt toast, as we were on lunch we didn’t have time to wait for a re-do. There was one other table so thinking the kitchen wasn’t busy and could have done some quality control before delivery to table.
Wonderful food and great service. Malt fries are the business.
We enjoyed our experience at Cold Storage -- it was quiet (we went on a Monday evening for a 7 PM dinner), especially compared to Swift & Sons next door, which was packed. The food was good (we ordered a fresh seafood tower and then individual entrees), but not the best seafood I've had in the city.
Everything was excellent. Shared oysters, cold mussels and a crab salad. Will go back to try mussels next time!
Great service. Reasonably priced menu. Nothing too fancy. Perfect for a Sunday supper.
My friend and I met up for our dinner meet up.
I believe our server was Makenzi. She was attentive and made some good recommendations. We listened to her. When she came out with one of her recommendations we were surprised of what we saw. We tried the dish and shared our concerns. She promptly brought us another dish on the house. We appreciated that kind of response and customer service. There was not lul in our night because of that encounter. I do think we overstayed our welcome because the hostess came to our table and asked us if she could move us to the bar because there was another party waiting. We probably would have continued with our conversation and might but we were mortified that we had been informed that our stay was over so we left.
All in all it was a fantastic night, good food, and a fun time.
Love the staff! Always very accommodating.
Service was first class. One person was vegan and they went out of their way to make special food. They continued to fill our water glasses after we were done eating but sat chatting. Excellent food and cool space
For folks my age, the high-top tables can be difficult. Some more traditional table seating would be a good idea.
Service was really good. Food comes out quick. Great spot for an early dinner if you have other plans that evening. There are only 3 booths, so RSVP and request a booth ahead of time if you have a special occasion going on; else you'll be on a bar stool. We had a 7pm show at United Center with dinner rsvp at 5:00. We were 20 mins late for dinner, but our booth was ready and we made it in time for the show. Great cocktails at reasonable price.
So perfect from start to finish. Excellent service. Unbelievably delicious halibut. Our gracious server heard us say “”Happy birthday” upon greeting our client/friend and brought an adorable narwhal cookie with a candle in it at the end of our meal. Seems like it’s best to order from the fresh fish whiteboard rather than the menu. Nothing wrong with the orders from the menu, but my dining companions were eyeing up my halibut and wishing they’d ordered it too. It had yummy veggies with it. The table also shared a delicious side of Brussels sprouts. And, what is in those chips that makes them such a perfect start to lunch? Our server was expert at being there when we needed her without our feeling pressured to decide our order while catching up. She made it one of the most relaxing dining experiences I’ve had lately. And the restaurant was quiet enough to easily have a conversation.
Everything was fine, but it wasn’t a particularly unique or special experience. There are better places in Chicago. The noise was too much so we ate quickly and left.
We went to Cold Storage before the Hawks game and only had about 75 minutes. We had a lovely couple glasses of wine and some good food. The Hamachi was fantastic. The oysters were fresh. Basically this is a fun bar with seafood.
Cold Storage has a great happy hour special with $1 oysters, and $6 for select beers, cocktails and wine. The happy hour is held from 3-6 pm. I recommend making a reservation, it can get packed.
Excellent food experience! You can't beat a happy hour with $1 oysters. The best oysters I've ever tasted! First time having hamachi collar and it was simply wonderful! Can't wait to go back!
Oysters were great. Have to try those. The main entrees were mediocre and the place has a limited menu. They also put the specials on the mirrored walls but it was really hard to read them because of the glare from the TVs. Waiter was really nice but I was kind of let down by the menu and choice of food. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but there weren’t many options.
Abby did a great job as our server and Danny was a very attentive busser/runner. Overall an excellent experience.
Great food and excellent service!
Mussels were under cooked. Stools were very uncomfortable.
Ordered the half pound of crab and it was great. The ceviche from the ap menu was also very good. Smaller menu, good sea food and nice ambience. I’ll be returning !
Great food and atmosphere. Staff very friendly and attentive.
Great food and service. Struggled to find the entrance though. I would go back again.
My bf and I went on a Friday night with another couple. I had a reservation at 7:30. When we walked in, the hostess said that the only spot currently available was at a crowded communal table, but that if we were ok with waiting, she suspected some other tables would be clearing up soon. We said we were fine with that and she told us she would come find us at the bar. 30 minutes come and go. Finally at 8:15 we go check on what’s going on (I mean, what’s the point of having a reservation?). For some reason they’re suddenly able to seat us, at an awkward high top near the door. We asked if instead we could take a booth that we noticed was empty, and they said it had been reserved for another party, but that they were over 20 minutes late for their reservation time, so we could have it. Yay! We ordered several appetizers/oysters/entrees and all shared everything. My overall opinion of the food was that it was very tasty, well-executed, but small portions for the price. The braised calamari is a must. We also had mussels, scallop ceviche, steak frites, and a couple other things. We got a couple of customized sundaes for dessert, which got a little messed up by the kitchen, but it’s all good.
Loved the restaurant as it was reasonably priced very good food. Went for lunch on a Friday and parking in the area was extremely challenging. So the $16 valet fee makes the restaurant less reasonably priced.
Superb! Amazing options and each was incredible - fresh, creative and delicious. Jennifer was very helpful in answering questions about the menu and offered great suggestions. Love this place!
Food was just okay. Also valet parking cost 16.00 after being validated. Enjoyed the server and ambiance.
Arguably the best raw bar in Chicago!
I thought the food was mediocre given the price. Great service but food could have tasted better.
I read a recent interview with a Celebrity Chef who said she goes to Cold Storage for the oysters. I grew up on East Coast, 30 minutes from the ocean. I love seafood! This place is great - fresh, diverse seafood menu options across the menu. I highly recommend Cold Storage - I'll be back...often. The service was outstanding as well. A great experience, from start to finish.
Cold Storage happy hour has a wonderful offering of both $1 oysters and discounted drinks. The staff is very accommodating to your needs.
Went early Saturday evening to celebrate a birthday. Arrived promptly at our reserved time, however our table wasn't ready yet so we headed to the bar for a cocktail. Once our table was ready (after about 20 mins.), we were informed our 4 cocktails had been comped due to the delay! That was a nice, unexpected gesture by Cold Storage. Dinner was excellent, most everything we tried was really good and service could not have been better.
Good for lunch to meet up with an old friend. We split two of the specials: the whole fish and a shrimp avocado toast. Fish was great. The toast was a little thicker and crunchier than I would have thought.
Looking forward to coming back for their happy hour for oysters!
We stopped in after an event. Our server was very attentive without being pushy. The support staff did an amazing job as well!! The food was being outstanding. I believe we all will be back for sure!
