The tables in the dining room were completely bared without a table cloth or center piece. We understand the place wanted to display the solid wooden table, yet, it was a Valentine’s Day weekend and it didn’t even have any décor or at least a candle on the table. The room had the cold and empty feeling, not an ambience that we were looking for at a 2-Michelin Star restaurant, especially on such a high-profile weekend.
Before we even get the chance to order the wine, they brought out the first course right away, the Grilled Seaweed Bread. It was two small pieces of toast, the side of a biscotti, served on a single small plate, not two separate plates. We were REALLY confused because normally the restaurant would bring out a palate cleanser for guest before starting our meals. We had to wait for the wine and by the time we touched the bread, it was already cold and dried.When we just finished the first course, they took the plate away and less than a few minutes, they right away brought out the second course. We felt really rush. It felt like the kitchen already made the dishes and the staff automatically brought one out after another right robots without giving guests a chance to digest, relax and enjoy the evening.
Worse yet, our main course, Roasted Duck Crusted in Spices and Seeds, were cooked close to medium rare. We asked the server to bring it back to the kitchen and when it came out the second time, there was still blood dripping when we cut into it. My friend couldn’t eat and skipped that main course. When we talked to the manager, John, at the end of the evening, he informed us that the dish is normally served rare. Yet, we were neither informed nor asked how we would like our duck to be cooked prior to our meal.
When it’s time for the desert course, our server did not even ask if we would like any coffee or port before bring out our desert.
The food was mediocre to basic, the ambience was cold and the service was not up to par.
My wife and I were there for Valentine’s dinner. We showed up 15 mins early and was seated right away. But we didn’t get water or our drinks until 730 which was our reservation. We thought that was fine. But throughout the evening I had to ask for water 2 times. For a restaurant that has a star, I’ve never had to ask for water but had to twice. If they had left me a water bottle I could’ve done it myself instead of asking for it. The wait staff walked around but never refilled my water. The tables next to ours had empty glasses too. The food was okay but not anything to write home about. My biggest issue was the service. We weren’t sure if it was as because it was Valentine’s Day and the menu threw them off but they were slow. Every dish took about 15-20 mins to get to us. We went a 1 star a couple of days after and the service was great. It was fast and I had water throughout the night. This restaurant had only 1 star and it was better than Coi which had 2. Not sure if Coi deserved it’s 2 stars. It was also my birthday weekend. The call to confirm my reservation didn’t even ask if we were celebrating anything. I guess they assumed it was only for Valentine’s. Overall I wouldn’t recommend this to anyone. It’s no surprised it dropped from a 3 star to a 2.
Ugh, this breaks my heart to write this review. I wish I would have came with the old executive chef. Because this has been on my top list of places to eat. When we came in nobody was there to meet or greet us, I had to flag someone down and they were confused about our reservation. The food was meh for $1200 with wine pairing. One dish stood out, the rest was forgettable. At the end both tables got this super adorable thank you dish of gummy bears made out of beets, and we did not. I was looking forward to that. I would rate it 2.5 stars out of 5. I was really really looking forward, and left sad and disappointed. The staff was funny and amazing, that was my main positive take away. I hope to return in the future, and have a better experience. Looking back at the reviews I've read on here, everyone seems to have the same experience. I'm sorry Coi, I was really hoping to have you prove me wrong.
It was a valentine dinner. However i found 3 pieces of crab shell in the third dish, and my boy fiend’s dish was fine. They did not even apologize to this incident and nothing was make up to me for this. No replacement no chief apologies.
Beside this incident, they serve caviar with metal spoons? What? Really? A 2 star restaurant? Every human being knows caviar can not touch metal!
The mushroom potato was very flavorful, I don’t know why they put black truffle on top. Just to look fancy??? The dish is too flavorful that I can not even taste out a bit of the truffle.
The main duck dish paired with fried rice, but the rice was a bit raw ... so unexpected
The server was very nice at first, after other client set, we were left without even pouring the wine and water for about 20 mins...

My wife and I had dinner at Coi on Saturday night. This was our third time there over the last few years. As always the food was great, the service was impeccable yet unpretentious and the ambiance is very nice. We did the wine pairing with one regular and one reserve. The pours are generous. We are already looking forward to our next visit.
Easy to find restaurant on the corner. Warm ambiance. Small dining area without seeming too stuffy. Perfect amount of food and thoughtful pairings.
I would suggest to have the wine pairings with your tasting menu. If lucky, chef will present his dishes to you personally.
Went to Coi for New Years Eve and had really nice experience. 10 course tasting menu, great wine selection and great service/ambiance. Definitely pricey but on par with Quince, Benu etc. i would recommend!
Expensive but worth it. An evening to remember. 10 courses and split a wine pairing we had informed the restaurant that one of us had dietary restrictions and they accommodated us with great alternatives
Worked out great. The the food was terrific; each course was presented well, tasted fantastic and the wine enhanced the food. Just what you would want. It would be difficult to pick which one of the courses was best. It was one rave after another. Each course was described as it was placed before you and the wine was also explained truly enhancing the whole experience

A perfect dinner for my mom’s 70th birthday. Both of my parents loved the food and service and my mom was very happy. They were able to accommodate my pescatarian diet. When my dad saw that I was getting trout instead of lamb, he wanted the same thing. The restaurant accommodated us even without the advance request. Outstanding experience for the entire 3 hours.

Two Michelin stars? I thought “What a disgrace” before realizing it is just a con scheme aimed at crazy rich Chinese who represented 60% of clientele. Before describingvthecexperience let me tell you the absolute minimum it would cost you without drinking a drop of whine: 350 usd per person. The menu is fixed, the service is fixed and then tax. The food: out of ten courses two were 2 star level, 2 - 1 star, three were good, 1 was Ok, 1 was bad and one was despicable. Out of 5 waitresses who came to our table one was competent, one was stoned, two were clueless snd one was despicable. I wonder if Michelin would be brave enough to take both stars in one go, but no corruption, extortion of power play would prevent it from dropping at least one next year. Unless you want to watch the spectacle of a downward spiral ignore this restaurant.
Food: There were several courses that just did not meet expectations for a 2 star Michelin restaurant. And when asked if substitution could be made for food intolerances, staff made me feel like I was being very irritating and like they were doing me a HUGE favor by providing food that wouldn’t make me sick later. I asked if I can switch our lamb for another protein, and was told they wouldn’t be able to - then the staff begrudgingly agree to ask the chefs. Ultimately the substitution was made, but didn’t enjoy being made to feel like I was “demanding”. When that was the only request and I cannot eat lamb, it makes me very sick afterward. Other courses, particularly the seafood courses were cooked and plated perfectly. Overall many dishes were overwhelming in richness and clashing flavors.
Service: It was disappointing that the level of attention to detail in service was lacking. Staff did not serve food for both diners simultaneously and didn’t seem to be paying attention to clear dishes, even after knife and fork and been down for 5/10 minutes and placed properly to indicate meal was complete. Additionally, though other diners received additional bread when they had finished theirs, we did not.
Decor: very minimalistic and refined interior decor makes this feel like a temple to food. Quite pleasant and quiet environs for a meal. However it was confusing to have the outer dining room and an inner dining room. Patrons in the outer dining room seem very removed and separated, and it made me wonder if there was a difference in service between outer and inner dining room.
Overall an acceptable dining experience, but poor value in my estimation for the price point. Having been to many 1-3 star Michelin’s, I don’t quite understand how Coi could have received 2*. I hope it was just an off night when we went? However I would not recommend it to anyone unless they want to try it on a corporate card.

Disappointed. Some of the dishes were not at par with what one would expect out of a Michelin 2 star restaurant. General excitement and explosion of flavors was missing. Good ambiance and service but somehow missed the core.
Petite portions, tasty and well presented, aggressively priced.
Everything was basically far below a 2-Star standard, compared with Saison in the same city, it was off by miles.
Coi is a good restaurant. But that is it. The food is beautiful presented, but not tasty. The price is incredible high for the food they serve. The environment is ok, instead of outstanding. The tables have space. However, they are too close to each other. The attendants were great. I think is the best point of the restaurant. All the employees are very nice and respectful.
The restaurant was very cold. The food is good and the service is attentive but the pacing was a bit off for me. I had to keep my jacket on for the duration of the meal as it was uncomfortably cold in the room. Other diners had their jackets on too, I wouldn’t recommend as it is an expensive meal but not very memorable.

Quiet the price tag for this meal
My review is based on Service, Ambiance and Food which is what Michelin reviewers apparently missed when giving Coi 2 stars.
Service wise: there was nobody greeting at the door, no valet parking available, and although our waitress was attentive it was nothing out of the ordinary. Ambiance wise: the place was loud and my wife observed that the carpet was old and didn't look very clean, on top of that there were no towels in the restroom and when my wife pointed that out rather than handing a towel the waiter just walked away.
The food was good with an interesting assortment of kaluga caviar, fish, lamb and popcorn courses. Yes, that's not a typo popcorn and grits was one of the courses and it was actually really tasty (what can go wrong with popcorn, right?). The mix of flavors was really good but nothing really jumped at us to highlight. The wine pairings were sub-par and the problem here was that, in most tasting menu/gastronomique style restaurants we've experienced, the pairings are matched one to one with each course. We run out of wine for one of our courses and our waitress informed us after the fact that we were supposed to make the wine last for 2 dishes. This made it quite confusing and took away from what otherwise could have been a good food experience.
Overall for a bill that was over $1K this was a poor experience and I cannot in good faith recommend this to anybody.

Dirty spoons and poor service which is unacceptable for a 2 star Michelin restaraunt.
Solid and some fairly creative fine dining. Dishes were very artistic but for the price maybe would have liked more expensive ingredients. Generally liked most of the dishes but wasn't blown away by most. But seasonal menu means dishes come and go so it's hard to say whether we just had a not as great menu or if diners will get a worse menu next season. It seemed the summer menu was more of a hit than the fall one
The entire experience at Coi was quite memorable. Starting from Chef Patterson's delectable artistic works to the amazing support staff. I wanted to throw a surprise to my fiancée and they made sure it was a super success. Highly recommended!

For a tasting menu featuring only 2 types of fish and a lamb dish for $250pp is quite unacceptable even for a restaurant with 2 Michelin stars! This was by far our worst tasting menu experience in San Francisco, let alone we spent nearly $1000 between the two of us. The table next to us was offered a Caviar course, but we along with several other tables were not. The service was spotty and borderline annoying. There were SO MANY Different service people coming to the table each with their unique presenting styles that the dinner kind of became a zoo.
I think the lady with the high pitched entitled whiny voice needs to go, the way she presents the dish made me lose my appetite many times during the meal. I was expecting lower hush tones
with a touch of elegance. The gentlemen presenting the wine and drink list was stumbling on all his words and we really couldn’t understand anything he was saying because his beard muffled everything he said. Sigh.
The food was not that great, or well thought out. I think that Coi might have lost their executive chef not too long ago, because none of their dishes stood out either in presentation or taste. Nothing particularly jumped out and made me go “wow”. I kind of didn’t even want to take photos because everything was just so unimaginable. If I’m paying that much for a meal, damn right you better “wow” me. It’s not some $200 meal. It’s $1200 for crying out loud!

I have been to the restaurant in 10+ years. It was great then and somehow even better now! The food, the service, the room all worked together to create an phenomenal dining experience. Would highly recommend it.
Not a good value for the food they provide. Mostly just vegetables without much flavor. The freshness is fine but not as comparable as many other Kaiseki restaurants. Would not recommend this.
Cost was not worth the food presented. Very strange flavors that came in no particular order for my tastebuds. Service wasn’t great, my water cup was barely filled throughout the night. Only came to table to serve food.
Great food. No air conditioning during the summer made it quite warm over dinner!
the food was not well coordinated and not that tasty. The BIG disappointment was the duck dish - so full of sinew that I could not cut through it and the small pieces I cut around could not be chewed and had to be spit out. This same problem was encountered by the 3 others at my table. All of left most of the dish uneaten or with a wad of chew on the plate. The staff cleared the plates and did not ask if there was a problem. Unworthy of any stars.
Finally, the meal took 4 hours and only because we demanded the last 2 dishes be served immediately and together. I did not have the wine pairing but my associates did, due the length of the service and the constant filling of their glasses, they were all mostly to completely drunk.
Unlikely to ever return
Fantastic meal with great service for our anniversary. Food was fresh and we enjoyed the wine pairing.
