How this establishment has 3 Michelin stars I cannot understand. Aerosmith & John Cougar Mellencamp non-ironically (afaict) playing in the background was a tad offputting, or at minimum, distracting. The service was fine, albeit a bit scattershot. Servers brought new courses out with previous dishes still on our table, and once attempted to take plates when we were still enjoying the current course. Often found the silverware didn't make sense with the course being served. It was all a bit confused, and unlike any other 3 Michelin star dining experience I've ever had.
They did handle a rather odd situation that occurred with grace: a small group of three arrived and proceeded to Skype with their baby from the table at full volume. Wth is wrong with people? In any case the staff politely asked them to cut it out... twice before they finally took the point. wow.
Ultimately, the food itself was for the most part inventive and lovely. Nothing blew my mind, but overall was nice. Wine pairing and sommelier were brilliant. Just not the overall experience I'd hoped for considering the hype, stars, and price. You can do better.
Second visit to Coi. First one with new chef. Excellent food (two Michelin stars, not three). Some outstanding dishes, others either lacked clarity or a "je-ne-sais-quoi". This said it was a great experience, service was perfect, great sommelier. Worth the detour.
Absolutely wonderful. As to be expected from a fine-dining establishment, service impeccable, top-notch food beautifully displayed, and a very memorable evening. Also, the tea pairing was a unique adventure.
A birthday experience with my love. The creativity of chefs astounds me. Once again I’m in awe of how every bite transcends. From the very first miniature bite of pleasure preparing me for what was yet to come, I was enthralled. Each course following the last showing me how much love for food the chefs themselves have.
The staff making us feel right at home which only added to the pleasure of sharing my birthday with them.
All I can say is.... thank you for the experience, which seems so minimal for so much pleasure.
We had a fantastic time at Coi, the food was fantastic and the staff was even better! Super enjoyable, I will go back!
I was worried after seeing the news that their head chef was replaced and reading a not so positive review on SF Chronicle, but I am happy to report back that it is fantastic and certainly on par with the other Michelin 3 Stars I've been to.
It seems Coi has lost its way! I’ve wanted to come for so long and was shocked! The food was beautifully presented, the service impeccable, but nothing really worked. The sashimi was fresh but the rice purée was pasty and without flavor. The abalone...what was that, exactly? Ugh! Desserts were better but I don’t go to fine restaurants for dessert. I will not recommend. I will not return. $371 was not appropriate for such a mediocre meal. I’m so sorry!
Absolutely sublime. Wondering how soon I can return! The service was excellent and the entire dining experience exceptional. Thank you to the chef and staff of COI for creating a very special memory.
Nice evening for our anniversary. Service was impeccable. Food was good, but I was a bit disappointed by most of the big ticket items. The duck, pigeon, abalone, and foie gras courses were fair. No real home runs and not especially creative but lovely and technically very good. Favorite course was mushroom dish early on.
Great tasting menu and nice advice from both waiters and the sommelier. Overall a great experience.
We had a great meal here.. better than the French Laundry, Manresa, and Quince in our opinion..
Food just ok, not worth the price compare other Michelin star restaurant
Celebrated a milestone birthday and opted for a wine pairing. What a spectacular meal and impeccable service, friendly yet professional. Michael made us feel so welcomed and comfortable from the very start. Can’t wait to return.
My husband and I spent our 17 year anniversary here and had an amazing time. The staff was absolutely wonderful. All the dishes were amazing. Such a memorable visit.
The som is the man. I honestly assumed they would do something special since I told the gm that it was my friends birthday and he asked his name and said he will take care of him. But other than that it was bomb.
One of THE BEST Michelin 3 star restaurant you must try !
Food was as much artistic experience and inventive as culinary excellence. Fish was a bit over cooked and therefore tougher than expected.
Beautiful, authentic, delicious food. Will leave you planning your next visit. Welcome to the Bay Area Chef Erik!
Not worth the money. Mediocre food and service. Would not return or recommend to a friend.
Coi has recently changed it chef de cuisine and though the style is somewhat different than earlier incarnations, it was creative and a wonderful place for a special meal. One tasting menu is available, which may bother some, but they do ask if one has any allergies, aversions etc and would accomodate those, but probably good to check ahead of time. Each course was either very good or truly excellent. The service was friendly but not intrusive nor overbearing. The wine list is not extensive compared to other restaurants in its class but is well chosen, fairly priced and the wine servce and knowledge of the wine staff is very good. I had a general sense of the wines I wanted but the somellier was helpful in narrowing down my selections. Coi is in the top echelon of bay area restaurants. I would definitely go back.
Brilliant. Beautiful present at I on nut the focus is squarely on taste where it belongs. Talk to your servers, they know ALOT.
Amazing. Best meal I've had in the United States. Exquisite food, impeccable service. Only criticism: way too expensive.
Extremely excellent menu, presentation and service. Staff is very pleasant and the understands that great service includes not interrupting your meal. The wine is dangerously good. Each plate is an artistic presentation. Michelin*** is still deserved with new staffing.
Food and service were excellent. At this price point, though, I would expect a little more, perhaps a couple more courses, larger portions, or more courses that would have blown me away.
Food and service is great. Only complaint is i was overcharged for items i did not consume. Had i not paid detail attention to the bill (as usual), i would have paid 32 dollars more than i'm obligated to.
Food is good, not great. I would spend the extra $s to go to a place like French Laundry. 2 of 11 courses were exceptional. The others hmmmmm .... just good....
The food was delicious, and the servers were friendly and pleasant. The restaurant serves a high-end, expensive tasting menu, so everyone gets the same meals.
The problem is we were siting for an hour before we got any food - even the amuse bouche. Which is perplexing as the restaurant is serving every table an identical meal. This delay continued throughout the meal. It wasn't leisurely; it was painfully delayed. The timing was off. There would bE long pauses between courses - we ate several pieces of bread to stave off hunger and drunkenness.
I've been to every high end restaurant on SF, and the delays here were among the worst.
The food was also not plentiful. Unlike some tasting menus where you may be unpleasantly full by the end, I would not have been full if it hadn't been for the bread and the vast quantity of wine I drank.
I’ll give it a two star instead of three
I expected more from a tree Star Michelin restaurant :(
Three star Michelin and understandably so. No low spots in the tasting menu not in service.
I am not an SF native, but coming from SFChinatown, the area is a bit sketchy with strip bars nearby. The place was a bit smaller than expected. The tables were quite close together. My girlfriend and I were expecting a more intimate setting. The food was unique, worthy of a Michelin Star or 2. I was not blown away. The service was great.
High expectation. Service kind of slow. Food is good but not as great as expected.
We enjoyed the dinner. The staff was extremely accommodating and pleasant. The food from the standard chef’s menu was outstanding! If I were to pick out a critique, it would be that since my wife didn’t eat red meat, her substitutions (mostly vegetarian) could have been better. But that’s nit-picking. :)
Keep up the great work at Coi!
Absolutely fantastic and complex flavors.
COI has been on my to try list for a few years now and I'm glad I finally made it. It was AMAZING. All dishes were not only tasty but also prepared with great care and presentation in mind. The staff were friendly, respectful, and personable. They made sure we were comfortable. When we arrived 20 minutes early, they sat us down immediately.
It's really hard to pick one favorite dish... If I had to pick one, it would be the sturgeon. Oh wait.. no, the hazelnut cream with the caviar and hen egg. wait... yeah I can't pick just one favorite. They're all good!
Definitely will come back for a special occasion!
Food and service were amazing and we got a great seat! Will definitely come back. Thank you!
